Hello All,

I just started playing EQ2 about 2 weeks ago. Since then I've tried playing almost every class to level 10 just to get a feel for what I'm going to want to play long-term. I've had an incredible amount of fun with both the Bruiser and the Troubador even though level 10 isn't far into the game (the Troubador is my highest at 1. At any rate, I'm just searching for a few answers as to what I might expect from the Troubador class throughout the game from level 10-70. Let me start by stating what I like about it so far and please let me know if I can expect the same as I grow up, or if something changes dramatically...

Challenging solo play- I've always liked playing the classes that most don't have the patience or desire to play. I dislike playing a class that is, or even has a chance to become, the flavor of the month class. From what I've seen this one is an easy answer in that soloing will only get harder. Nonetheless, I like things to be difficult enough to keep my interest-this is the main reason I lean towards playing Troub vs. playing a Bruiser. With the Bruiser I feel like I can just halfway pay attention, but with the Troub, I feel like I have to plan everything in order to accomplish the same. I've actually always like the [Removed for Content] classes-especially if they are useful to others in groups.

Varied abilities- I love all of the buffs and different types of attacks available. Will many of my abilities be used in the later levels, or do most Troubadors stick to using a few key skills/spells? Just curious to know which ones are fluff in the later levels, or if abilities used stay fairly varied and interesting.

Melee- I like to be able to melee to some extent, although I don't care if I'm a DPS machine. Will I be allowed to do this in groups throughout the levels? Also, when raiding (obviously not in some raid situations I'm sure, but in most raid encounters, do Troubadors get to melee?)

Desirability-It appears that Troubadors are fairly uncommon that I can tell (I am playing on Antonia Bayle on the evil side and that is my perception at least). Are they? Also, are they wanted in groups and raids?

I'd also be interested to know what the key things are that drive 70 Troubadors to play and keep on playing... what are your favorite things about the class?

There's more that comes to mind, but I don't want to wall of text you all (plural of ya'll by the way) and not get any replies. At any rate, any tips on the above, or encouragement/discouragement for me to play the class would be great. I just don't want to waste time playing the class if my assumptions for liking it now will be dramatically different as time progresses.

Much appreciated!

So far I think that the responses are pretty accurate. I too wanted something that was not the "flavor" as you put it. So I now have a 48 troubie / 58 Provi. Have had tons of fun. And well received in ANY group and well appreciated in our guild raids. I have many other alts as well, but the troub is still my favorite.Granted, I am not a level 70 and have not run into some of the issues that are brought up in the higher levels. So, play to have fun.

I started out with a Fury and surprised myself when I fell in love with my troub. Although we may not put out the most dps, we are incredibly useful on raids and make everyone better and keep them full of mana. It definitely takes patience to level one up, but I love that they are hybrids and can hold their own as well as hold up a group.

VERY recent Raid example for you:AOAx2 instance - 11 of us and we wiped on final mob. Basically ran out of power for heals. Choices we had: invite a 4th healer or invite a troub. We chose the troub and kicked the mobs [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] with mana to burn and he was going down a LOT faster than he was previously.Troubs are great for raiding and a blast when you have in a full group doing instances, etc.Soloings a pita at times, but there's nothing more fun IMO then starting a solo attack with a mezz, debuffing the crap out of it, and doing as much dps as you can to take it down. They definitely drop a lot faster this way.
