chuckie

dirges have some buffs that are "must have" for raiding, troubs have some buffs that are "nice" for raiding

I think the dirge is the more "useful" class based on the strength of their buffs and debuffs (percussion, hyrans, daro's, rez, etc)

both classes have lame duck spells that nobody uses, troubs may have more though.

the two classes were more comparable to each other before the proc and CC nerfs the troubs took in the...

I think dirges are more useful, but a raid really only needs one dirge, but can utilize more than one troub.

During raids, a dirge is almost a requirement in the MT group. And a troub is a must for the caster group(s). This is a broad generalization, but I am at work and can't write that much right now.

To answer your second question, "what do troubs get to balance the fact that dirges can rez?", they get in-combat health regen at 44 and 58. The dirge gets their rezzes at 44 (individual) and 58 (group). This is the closest thing I can see that compares, except dirges can use both rezzes as they are on seperate timers. The dirge does not get a group health regen spell. They do get a life transfer spell (at 65) which is single target, but the troub gets Jesters Cap (at 65) which reduces the casting times of an ally.

Better/worse? Depends on what you are looking at in relation to the group, raid, encounters, etc. Troubs get a charm and mez, while the drige gets a fear. I took the fear off my hotbar because it is mostly useless with social mobs they have added to the game. It makes it almost completely useless for crowd control. Most people just want us for our mana regen anyway. In a pickup group, I would be happy with either class.

There are some things that troubs get that I would love to have and I know troubs would love to have some of the dirge spells. But I think bards in general are one of the more balanced classes and have the least amount of issues / complaints. Bard dps is the lowest of all the scouts, but with the right group set up, we can do pretty well.

/looks around and quickly backs out of the troub forum

ForgottenFoundling wrote:

dirges have some buffs that are "must have" for raiding, troubs have some buffs that are "nice" for raiding

Not true. In the buff department we're about equal. My guild is very small, but we try to keep 2 dirges and 2 troubs (currently have 2 dirges and 1 troub, but one of the dirges has been missing a lot of raids lately due to work). We have raided without a dirge, and we've raided without a troub. Your mileage may vary, however. Not to knock anyone, but this may depend on your guild which one is "more useful", too. Our guild focuses on two things: the MT keeping agro, and everyone else having very high dps. The dirge, if present, helps the MT maintain agro (while also providing the secondary benefits of mana regen, stoneskin, parry, etc.), while the troub(s) help the dps classes reduce their agro (while also providing the secondary benefits of mana regen, haste, spell procs, etc.).When the dirges can't make a raid, there are other classes that can provide the MT with hate generation -- maybe not as well as a digre, and certainly without some of the other benefits -- but it'll work just fine anyway. When the troub(s) can't make a raid, there's really no other class that can provide an entire group with hate reduction. There are classes that can reduce hate for a single person, but nothing like the troub's groupwide reduction.

We beat Chel'Drak without a dirge so they're not essential by any means - our buffs are both pretty evenly matched like Angua said, they just benefit different people. I know a lot of guilds focus more on a perfect MT group than dps, but troubadors are the cornerstone of a great dps group.
