Hi, I am going to create a new bard alt that I plan to put some time into, however, I am not sure if I want to be a Troub or a Dirge. I am leaning towards a Troub, however, Dirge's get a rez and I am wondering what advantages the Troub's get to offset this? Also, what are the basic reasons to chose one over the other.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I know this topic has probably been done to death, however, I also wanted to get a fresh look at the changes that have been made to the classes.

Message Edited by Hauskald on 06-30-2006 05:32 AM

I'm pretty happy with my Accordian Thief, but Disco Bandit looks kinda cool, too.

I have a 70 dirge and a 22 troubador. As far as I can tell, SO FAR, they play very similarly.

If you plan on hanging with dress wearers, play troub, if you'll hang with the tin suits and sneaks, play dirge.

Dirge is probably a bit more handy in raids, you could use 2, one in MT group, one in melee dps group. Troubs I gather are typically in caster DPS groups. Certainly on my server, most of the heavy end guilds are searching more for troubs than dirges, dunno why that is unless a bunch aren't playing anymore.

I am a contrarian. Right now, at least on my server, I can buy troub masters (20's/30's) nearly as cheaply as necro adepts. I figure at some point they'll bolster up troubs and I'll have a foot in the door.

I know troubs are pretty unhappy right now, but dirges have felt the nerf bat a bit too. In addition, the recent scout nerfs actually have lessened the effect of the dirges buffs as well, its just not as noticeable.

I'd say read up on em and play the one that tickels your fancy.

I for one have no plans to betray to a dirge like so many players. let me explain why: hate reduction : (aka flower power) nothing says more dps from the casters and scouts like a 40% hate reduction, does wonders with brigands and i know a warlock who has different play style if he is grouped with a troubador. brias : mana regen for those long fights, just as important for non-casters as it is for casters haste : granted its better for melee classes however it also helps necro physical damage caster pets elemental / magic resists : with resists being an important factor in this tier i find myself using my resist songs more and more, reflect/magic stoneskin : for some mobs like the crabx2 in the adventure pack or other mobs like vyemm the stoneskin affect of RoR can save your healers mana (and the lives of your group mates) if it goes off jesters cap: i know a brigand and a few casters who love when i put this on them, it helps them do faster dps Will you be doing less active raiding and more afk'in? Not necessarily. I still pull out at least 400+ single target dps on average half assing it. If a troubador wants to have decent dps you will have to work harder to time your CA and spells to chain them consistantly. If you just want to be a buff bot and complain you have nothing to do during raids well you are just not working at it. If its a ranged fight you have at least 5 ranged attacks + the ability to joust like everyone else. If its a up close and personal fight there is nothing stopping you from doing CA's and ranged. Thats what annoys me about the buff bot attitude. Its funny to joke about it however we are not limited by it, if you are not pulling your weight in a raid you do not belong in that raid.

Also Dirge/Troub

agreed with above Dirge and troub are very close. Both are buffing BOSSes Troub are best with skirt classes and dirge with Warrior maiden sect. A troub has a easier time fighting caster mobs then a dirge and vise versa. Dont think of Troub or dirges as scouts but as Bards Jack of all masters of none ...eq1

Dirge fear Troub charm

Dirge mana regen Troub health regen

dirge physical debuffer Troub resistance debuffer

BUT we both EVAC and run really fast

/agree completley with veric, dirges and troubs are both necessary raid classes, and with many troubs betraying, makes troubs even more desirable. And every point that veric made i was going too, but i digress /cheer veric

Go Veric... it was all fine and dandy when we thought we were totally losing all of our CC's (whether or not some feel like we did or not, let's not go there okay?) and when we were fighting the original LU24 on test (the original one not the one that went live), to say we were going to end up buffbots, but if you're a troub and let yourself be an af buffbot on a raid (where we couldn' use our CC's anyway), then you don't belong there (unless you're really not there and someone else is dual boxing your toon of course ;p).

Raid leaders should notice if you are truely afking it 90% of the time and it should be brought up with you. If you do not at least attempt to pull your weight you do not deserve drops. Plain and simple. You owe it to the other 23 people to try your best when raiding.
