View Full Version : Question for the Troubadour Community, from a curious Dirge

I've been reading in a few posts on these boards and on a couple others, that with the new Betrayal quest line several Troubadours will be switching over to Dirges. I'm wondering how far spread this mentality is within the Troubadour community. I currently am fielding a Dirge as my main because it wa s a "rare needed" class, but lately all i'm seeing is a large amount of Dirges coming up through the ranks. If a large portion of the already small community of Troubadours switch across, competition for gear, skill upgrades, and raid slots are gonna become significantly harder. My guild already has 5-6 Dirges at 50+, and maybe a couple of Troubadours in the same level range. I can't see any of the high end raid guilds needing anymore Dirges either, it's not the rare class it used to be. I'm wondering how many of you think the sacrifices are worth the effort of class betrayal.

My guild is looking for 2 Dirges :p And I'm not going to quit. Or change class or any stuff like that. I'm just upset about the changes and the lack of communication and lack of care shown by the devs. Just hope marketing at SOE remember that disgruntled customers is the worst that can happen.

As an utility class Troubadours been hit by side effects of other classes nerfs multiple times since launch. And the only real bones thrown to us where LU13, where the troub actually got a good boost. Nowhere near the god-status a few other classes been enjoying the last year tough...

Most of those bones were on a rope, and pulled away just as fast as they were tossed.

Aria and PoM were toned done (balancing the other classes)

RoR (this means Requiem of Reflection, better explain an abbreviation that has NEVER been needed) was destroyed before most of us could even use it.

And many more lil nerfs i hid away in my memory, while dancing to "i am in denial" . Else i had quit a long time ago.

Ikikik playing air guitar, for lack of something tangible

Troubadors are still needed for raids to keep hate off of the casters. The problem is who wants to log in for 3 hours to WATCH your friends raid.

This is not about raiding. With the changes going in like in test notes and on test server right now, raiding will be exactly the same before and after. Mez/Charm on raids where non-existant, and the proc change didnt affect raid-play as Troubadour either. Its as always, get the raid buffs up, constantly joke about taking down proc for haste and add as much damage and debuffs as possible at any time. Keeping the mental debuff up at all times etc etc.

However, it would be nice to play my Troubadour between raids too.

Heh, I sarcastically wrote in a post "can I respec to dirge?" I won't. its more of a frustrated statement that is the result of the changes that have coonstantly gone on since LU 13. I have played a troubador since launch. I rolled this character with the assumption that I would be the defensive buffer for groups and the MTs best scout friend on raids. For over a year I was. Then without warning LU 13 totally revamped our class and thus our role in groups and raids. I'll admit it, I came to really like the changes and after some practice came to be able to play the role at least half [Removed for Content].

So in sum, the "can I respec to Dirge?" comment was one made out of frustration. Many of us old timers didn't roll our characters with the intention of playing this role in the first place (we infact rolled dirges in a round-about way heh) but we adapted. Now our new abilities seem to be getting hit again and again. Thus many of us question our utility especially in comparision to our perceived beautiful sibilings and other utility classes. I doubt many will lose all their masters etc etc and betray to become dirges. I most likely won't. However, I think a lot of Troubs will be parked in favour of classes that will be more fun to play. I personally will continue to bring my buff-bot out to raid with my guild, I just won't play my Troubador during others times. I have lvled a Brigand and already have a T7 Warden so Aredisil, my Troub, will not be seeing much action in the future. And this is purely a fun factor decision. I will probably remain playing the game and so will others. I don't think therer will be 100, 000 Dirges running around in the near future, just an absence of Troubadors. In all I think this still an awesome game and the developers have done a pretty [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] fine job. Just the Troubador issue needs to be looked at; the developers need to keep the class fun to play.

Hellenna Heartstryder, 64 Warden, AB and.....

Aredisil Fayrunner, 70 Alin's Serene Serenade caster AB

Respec to Dirge sends Sony a message. It would be very cheap to buy t6 master1s which are a bit better than t7 adept1s...then when t8 comes out you are good to go.Don't think for a second that it would be better to start a new player at 0 then grind to 70 and buy all the masters along the way?If you truely are going to park your troubador, then respec is 500% better option than reroll.Sony can kill my ____, and to prove the point I am up for the challenge of dumping the gimped class for a new beginning. Like hey there, you can allways reroll a Troubador if they EVER fix the class, and go from 0 to 70. I'd much rather act first then wait 1 or 2 years or maybe never for the fix to hapen. If no Troubadors exist, well make the class viable and we will start over.I have been Troubador from the day things went live, so don't think for a second that I am not attached to the class........then again I am not one to be bullied either. Sony will not win this one. Respec, Quit, or turn over and take some more up the ____.The choice is yours.A year from now don't feel to bad from the I told you so post though. Troubadors will allways be Sonys wipping post. Get used to the fun from the beatings.Moose

I "respecced" to dirge a while ago by bringing up an alt. Between him on PVE and my bruiser on PVP, I have plenty to do. I'm mad as hell though that the character that I've put the most time, effort and love into is being ripped to hell again because some careless dev has no clue on what "Balance" is. The continued lack of comment, assurance or anything else grossly compounds the crap they're pulling.

What's really funny is they make changes all the time to uphold this idea of "fun", yet they continue to make the troubador more and more passive to play. When you take the "active" abilities out of a class, you lessen the distance between a "good" player and a bot... Achievement is a powerful thing. Most people don't aspire to be an /afk bot.

Wait a second . betraying to dirge ? [Removed for Content] ? bards are neutral . How are we supposed to betray to a dirge ? Or did the OP mean restarting as a dirge ?

Apparently right now on Test (maybe even live?) even neutral classes have the option to change classes when betraying. Seems strange to me, too, so no idea if it'll make it to live when the "betray at any level" goes in.

Message Edited by Sanju on 05-15-2006 04:04 PM

I wanted to clear up one comment quickly regarding mezzes/charms in raids. Mezzing in raids is not non-existant. Troubs are not able to mez actual epic named, but we are able to mez their epic adds. The troubs in my guild oftentimes worked with the chanter in mezzing certain encounters. That ability appears to be on the chopping block, so the changes will effect raiding even if only very situationally.

When i read about the possibility i was tempted to change class via betrayal. Anyway, that is possible on test and i highly doubt it will be possible when patch go live, just because they know that lots of troubs will betray and that would be a slap on devs faces.

As i say, i liked the idea, but that way SOE wont notice how upset i am about their lack of communication with the playerbase. I am a Troub since day 1 and i dont want to reroll, so my only option is quitting. Sure i wont cause a bankrupt, but i hope some well dressed men/women at the end of the year look at their suscriber numbers and realize that they were doing something wrong.

I dont know about you guys buy my troub gets to charm in T7 raids. Were actually pretty darn good at it with our subjugation buff. My mez has been pretty useful in raids as well. Of couse both of the above are limited to the heroic mobs in the raids.

nah...i'm in it for the longhaul, for better or for worse. they took away aria with LU23, and they're taking away our cc with LU24, so what else is there to lose? hopefully they'll come back at some point and fix us. either way, i'll still love my troub. =) take care!!!

On the thought of tossing the account, when I started I had a choice and i chose Troub, I still prefer the idea of a troub better, just a shame it is being trashed, will see what it is like, if it is bad I will park it, no way I would wana trash all the spell upgrades and the class i once wanted but I will check out the new betrayal on another toon that I wanted all along to be another class but I wont be doing it to play that class for the long term, if after that toon has changed class there is no light for the troubs, I will toss in the towell
