Hi all, yep.....me again :smileyhappy:

after given several good situations to use my new Mezz spell - I've encountered 2 major unexpected problems....... maybe you can help me figure them out and solve them

first problem - I usually use the AE-group encounter on the 2-3 monsters I pull - especially the green debuff of the str/agi and the green DoT thing (can't really remember it's name - it's got a screaming face icon, we have a 1-target similliar spell as well).

however, if I try to mezz while using such a spell, the DoT actually negate my spell :smileysad: so, what do you do? use mezz on 1 mob and fight the other 2? or drop the mezz and fight them all?

second problem - the auto-attack....... I sometime start by the bow-pull on 1 out of 2 monsters, reach melee fight and start fighting, after a second I remember the Mezz spell which will make my life easier in this - however, I use the spell and then because of the auto-attack, I hit that same monster before I manage to get my lock back on the first monster (about 60-70% of the time) is there any way to avoid such a problem? is it just a matter of practice? the quickness of my hand?

I'd appreciate your consructive response on these matters - you've been very helpful and supporting on my quest of understanding the Troub.

thanks -

Unicorn.

50 Troub.

LDL.

Here a re a few suggestions for soloing group encounters.

1) Turn off Aria's - This will allow you to debuff mezzed creatures without the proc breaking your mez

2) Pull with charm spell......this makes the fight much more favorable for you. Instead of one against 4 it is now 2 against 3. It is important that you tank the other 3 mobs so as not to have your charm break on you mid fight.

3) Immediatley Mez one of the mobs...now the fight it is 2 on 2 until mez wears off. I usually hit awesome or mighty bellow now because it is an instant cast and ensures that mobs are hitting me and not charmed pet.

4) Use precision and hit every debuff you have and they will each proc for around 300 damage...foolow will CAs if mobs are not already dead.

This tecnique is most effective against groups of 3 or 4 although i have used it against cetrain pairs of white con ^^ with limited success by charming one and using him as a tank until i can land debuffs on 2nd mob. If charm breaks evac or die.

You have to be careful of anything which is a dot or procs off damage received (mobs puts a dot on you, you receive damage, your sanguine imbued pants break the mezz . Both will break mezz. When using mezz you will have to change your strategy/equipment to avoid these things.

The auto-attack problem is a nuisance. What I do is when I start casting mezz I will hit my auto-attack button to stop attacking. After a few deaths from breaking your own mezz you'll have a routine down.

I always wanted to create a macro, which does the following: stops auto-attack, casts mezz, tells group which mob is mezzed. Anyone using such a macro?

I used to have a similar macro but i rarely do p/u groups anymore and everyone in guild is on ventrilo.

/gsay didn't seem to help much in PUGs anyway some fool would always slap the mob that was mezzed.

One thing I do to avoid breaking my mez is while I am casting the mez, immediately switch back to my original target (the one I was fighting). Any proc or attack will happen after you finish casting the mez spell so if you have switched targets before the spell lands, you're in OK shape.I don't use the encounter DoT if I need to mez monsters within a single encounter. I use it all the time in groups when fighting one encounter and then saving mez if additional encounters show up, particularly the ^^^ single-creature heroics.
Message Edited by Jooneau on 04-10-200604:22 PM

Aria's does not break mezz, it seems to land first, then the mezz, so don't worry about this spell being up.Like has been said, make sure you don't use the wis bebuff/DoT, and change your target once your mezz starts casting, and everything will be fine (assuming it doesn't resist heh)One other thing to note is that if you turn off your auto attack before a mezz but keep the mob targetted, IF Aria's procs it will turn auto attack back on, so you will immediately break your own mezz if you are within melee range of the mob

Message Edited by Pik'ee on 04-11-200610:34 AM

It's a question of individual style and how much debuffing you do in a fight. Killing yellow ^ mobs using mez, snare, arrow+nuke I don't bother debuffing since the whole idea is to avoid getting hit, hence I'll keep Aria up. Against a group where I'm going to mez a couple of times and try to debuff I'll drop AriaLike has been said, make sure you don't use the wis bebuff/DoT, and change your target once your mezz starts casting, and everything will be fine (assuming it doesn't resist heh)One other thing to note is that if you turn off your auto attack before a mezz but keep the mob targetted, IF Aria's procs it will turn auto attack back on, so you will immediately break your own mezz if you are within melee range of the mob

Otherwise exact advice I would have given. It's worth noting that there were quite a few complaints when they added the auto attack on hostile spell change and I believe one of the devs mentioned taking a second look at the idea and maybe adding a toggle for it. Would be very useful if they did

Mez THEN DoT. Works wonders. As was said, aria hits before mez so you don't have to worry about that. I do have to remind my groups not to DoT adds. They seem to love doing this. But then we die because I can't get it under control. I think SK's must have some sort of AoE DoT because it's pretty much pointless with one of them in the group. Happened a few times tonight. I just kept spamming "remove dot from add" and he would. For a macro, I use /g Mezzing %t /useability Lullaby /autoattack 0 I did not realize an enemy dot had a chance of setting of the reactive proc on your armor every tick. I thought it was just when it landed? I've never had a problem mezzing solo and I must have been dotted by some mob first at some point.

Probably just repeating what everyone else is, but:

1. Your buffs if you solo should be: Self INT/AGI buff, Health Regen, Power Regen, and Defense (This is what I use... you can feel free to switch it if you want)... and Aria if I am fighting solo enemies. If Im fighting heroics... its best to do groups and leave the one empty conc spot for charm.

2. Pull with Charm (on grouped heroics). Try to charm the healer or mage if you have that option, otherwise do scout or if nothing else fighter. After you charm one, press TAB once and it will cycle to the next mob in the encounter.

3. Cast Mez spell. While its casting, press TAB again and it will target the third enemy in the encounter. The second enemy will be mezzed while you have the first enemy charmed and the third enemy targeted. With one mezzed and one charmed, you should be on easy street the rest of the fight. If fighting 4 mobs, Try to mezz the 4th mob with TAB once mezz refreshes (i.e. you are fighting the 3rd enemy and it refreshes, press TAB, mez 4th, then retarget the 3rd enemy again). This may take some practice but it's an easy tactic to learn.

4. Once you have at least one enemy charmed and one enemy mezzed you can debuff away. Personally I find the wisdom debuff and dot the least useful of the debuffs, so I generally save it for last or dont cast it at all. My debuff order is always: Demoralizing Processional (mobs offenses drop), then Zanders Choral Rebuff. Then I lay in with Lore's and Guvienna's. Lowering STR and STA is generally a good idea if you want, but not a priority debuff. And then finally the WIS and DoT debuff if I feel so inclined.

5. The encounter debuffs do NOT hit charmed and mezzed enemies, so be sure to reapply as needed.

**Having a good set of gear is somewhat neccesary for fighting Heroics for any kind of real payoff. Blue Heroics will still wax your average player most certainly (Unless you do the Mezz > Chaos Hex > Guvienna's > Shrill > Mezz [which takes forever btw]).

That's pretty much the best use of our bag of tricks while soloing. Some tweaks are always neccesary of course... drop defense song for resistance song if you are fighting casters for example.

first thing to know: mezz won't break from AEs as long as you don't cast the AE directly onto the mezzed mob. this also applies for debuffs + procand secondly: when fighting some group of mobs and you want to mezz one, select this mob, hit the mezz button and switch to another target while casting mezz. this way the formerly targetted mob will be mezzed and you won't have to worry about hitting him after he's mezzed.be careful with feedback items though. gear that has some kind of feedback proc on it will break mezz every time you need an emergency mezz

Thanks for the macro help. Works just fine.
