Greetings all, long time player, first time Troubador . I just rolled up an alternate to play around with and figured I would try a troubador.

So far it feels a lot like a ranger, or assassin or any other dps class out there (mind you he is very low level).

Are troubadors just dps characters with a few extra buffs? or do they have a specific "role" at higher levels?

Thanks in advance

Your role at lower levels is a dps mana battery, just have fun and stab/slice/nuke stuff. Put up the songs you think will help the most in the given situation and youll do fine. Its not too different at high levels either, you just gota mez adds once in a while which can be quite fun.

In a group, you buff and do minimal DPS. You barely beat out a guardian in DPS But, you add a ton to group DPS and sustainability. As you go up you will start to have to choose which buffs are best for which group, and you'll notice the difference. You may need to tailor according to location as well as group abilities. You are also going to be skewed more towards caster groups, though you do add to melee groups. And, yes, when you get to 50 you get to have some mez duty as well to add to the excitement

Minimal DPS? i am a lvl 62 Troub and i was only being beaten by an ranger (and by assassin with their big hits) with a pally, fury, dirge, enchanter, ranger in the group.

but the trick is understanding what your role is in the current group IE

group A... with tank, healer, wizzies, scouts... in this group what they dont need is more DPS so you DONT use your self buff but use other buffs they serve the group and increase the whole overall strength

group B... with a few tanks, healer and illusionist... in this group what they need is dps have your self buff and really consentrate on things like Aria's.

i have had the most amazing time these last few levels i was really down after losing our mana drain but now i have truelly learned that we truely are valued. the trick is when in a group do somethign that is monumental brilliant that they go WOW "thats what a troub brings"

for me that means using Precision of the Maestro and watch everyone stand back in awe when they see the mobs falling really fast and my second trick that i was completely blown away that not many of the troubs seem to use is Lullaby. Here we have this amazing easy to use Mezz the amount of times i have saved the whole group i have lost count. In fact generally if i group with strangers i try to use, hit my macro telling people not to attack, they break it, i cry... after about the 4th or 5th time they work out that i really do know how to crowd control. I shall mention the time the other day when our healer got an ad that is two hits took 90% of his health as the mob went to hit a third time i mezz'ed, healer didnt die i was appluaded a hero /giggles ...

yet as far as i was concerned i was just doing my job.

You want a tip about the troubs role and how to be best? understand your spells, understand your limits but never be afraid to be completely reckless and try stuff. If the truth be told where a class is better than an another its all bullocks what makes a strong class lays with the player themselves. trust me there is so much we can do in this game everytime i play another class (i have 6 alts) i am completely bored because non have the complexity i fine in a troub

Prideaux Daliesh

62 Troub AB

Barely beat a guardian? Iunno about you but I am very well geared, 487int, 356str and I do my fare share of dps, often doing more damage then the more recognized dps classes. Troubadord DEFINATLY have alot of dps, it just depends if your skills are all master 1 and your gear is fabaled

Actually, looking at the post-60 Troubs it looks like our DPS has increased a crapload. Just look at highest magic hits for Troubs that have eq2players and you're seeing 10-11k hits, where before it would be 3-4k. For instance, Prideaux did 10,425 as a high magic damage. I guess we'll have to reassess our role, but this also shows why we actually have to watch what we're doing post-60.I've always maxxed out my buffs, since we are low DPS even in the 50s. We add more to the group than the traditional DPSers, but our personal output gathered by parsers is always lower. Especially if we're running Arias, since everyone gets added hits from that added to their DPS (spells, poison, taunt, ranged bow specials, ...). It is a matter of knowing your spells/skills, and prior to KoS we were low on the DPS pole. Now, if someone made a parser which took all the procs and knew percentages of hits (due to Dove's) then we would be at the top of the DPS pole I can't wait for my guild to hit 50 so I can start leveling again and get up to having DPS!edit:And looking at this, it makes me reasses my ASes. The damage output ones are starting to look better if we are a DPS class now.
Message Edited by Bassist on 03-07-200609:52 AM

I have never considered myself low DPS and especially would never compare myself DPS-wise to any Fighter class, especially a Guardian. Lower DPS than some Mages and other Scouts, sure. Maybe a tricked out Berserker or Bruiser but never a Guardian.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Now I have one more question. What is the main difference between a troubador and a dirge?

Thanks again folks

Aye i would have to agree with T7 our dps has jumped a good deal i'm averaging about 350 in most xp groups. and in a well balanced gourp normaly about 430ish, I'm useing just legendary t7 weapons and have a few masters, but with our debuffs solo we have three differnt abilites that easly hit for over 1.4 k, Elis actualy has a use now lol, Still need to get perfic shrill adept III/master though but still its great so far. Guveina's Master I is great 2k debuff really helps out a lot for criting/max dmg.

Laoch69 wrote:
Thanks to everyone for their replies.

is this 'massive dps' you guys do with or without maestro? without it on certain fights i do around to 200-300dps max..while the other classes i am grouped with do 400+with maestro on well that is a completely different storystats (self buffed with raxx and jig and my int gear) - 282str, 283agi, 410intall masters pre 60, only dancing blade to adept3--edit--a pally, fury, dirge, enchanter, ranger in the group.ahh...the group makeup helps explain it a bit. fury buffs, dirge procs and chanter groupbuffs/procs

Message Edited by VericSauvari on 03-07-200602:13 PM

Ae encounters its fairly easy to hit over 600dps, well because its ae, even with out maestros. but on single target 350 dps with out maestros i think is pretty good for us. Now once you get top gear/spells for t7 you probably will see something closers to about 450 average at best is agood group with out maestros. Now most caster classes, non-ae fights i cant even comapir to their 800dps, or preds with their 700ish dps. lol even furies if they are dpsing can easli hit 300- 400 dps.
