I'm a newbie Troubador, but doing my best. Never played one before, but got buffed to level 50 yesterday.

In PvE, I love this class. Nuff said.

In PvP, I'm not entirely sure. The buffs to the group, particularly where Mages & Priests are present is huge, and the general buffs rock as you know.

I love the debuffs and my Mental Spells hit for pretty good damage.

Melee wise, I also seem to do well, particularly if I can get a blur vision stun off in the process and/or get behind/flank the target. I can't find poison I can use, is that unique to non-bards only?

I seem to get my butt kicked by other Scout Classes in melee, but they also don't have the buffs, debuffs and ranged spells I have, although they do have better archery, and from what I can tell, Poison, where I don't.

I have no other skills, spells, then what the buff bot gives, which are those obtained through normal leveling. What am I missing?

What skills & spells can I have via quests or vendors that I wouldn't know about, but should?

Mezz at 50 works like a dream. I love it.

This class certainly seems to be more group dependent in PvP, but guess what, most are. Many of the more solo PvP classes *cough* Rangers *cough* are goiing to get pretty lonely when they can't find a group, or see they have a lack of support classes on their side. When in a well rounded group, my Freeport team owns rangers. Don't get me wrong, Rangers are powerful, but they have major problems facing well rounded teams that work together.

Help me test this 50 Troubador as best I can. What should I know, be doing, trying?

Thank you -CC

Message Edited by ChinaCat on 02-12-200610:31 AM

Poison is for non-Bard Scouts.Other than that, some tips:- Try different buff setups for different opponents. For example, to beat my Mystic friend, I use Health regen, power regen, proc song, elemental resist (some nasty dots there) and the self buff. the first two are nice while you have them mezzed. To beat a paladin, I use the divine resist song instead of the haste. Try many setups, and don't be afraid to change buffs mid-fight.- Cheap Shot is your friend- Try charming or mezzing pets. Alternatively, mez the owner while you take down the pet.- Use relevant debuffs. If they don't melee well, there's no use in debuffing melee skills and STR.- time your Precision of the Maestro well (when you get it at 5. Works really well right after you Mez them in my experience.- use your short-term defense debuff. It increases the power they use and, in turn, decreases how long they'll last against you.- use your mental debuff. This cannot be stressed enough.
Message Edited by Dalinn on 02-12-200611:27 AM

Ok, I have played the Troubedor a few days on the PvP Test Server and while there is no way I can give the quality opinion those who know this class thoroughly could, I can offer some impressions.

The aspects of this class that are awesome, are truely awesome, and there are many, but at the end of the day this is proving to be a difficult class in a 1 vs 1 solo pvp environment. In a Group vs Group situation, the advantages of the Troubedor are far more obvious and effective.

The ability to cast a number of songs on the run is critical for PvP. WIth blurring their vision and snaring, I have been able to run past them slightly and use the flanking/back melee move, which does nice damage. The debuffs and buffs are great, really great.

Overall, I don't find the DPS I'm able to dish out in PvP on the same level as many classes. That's not to say the Troubedor is a push-over, or a whimp; it's not, but there are a ton of classes that appear to do more damage in PvP, particularly other scout classes that get poison.

This is a surface impression and apologize. I've never played a Troubedor before in EQII, and understand, being instantly buffed to 50 is light years away from earning each level and learning your class day to day.

None the less, I feel like I have a pretty decent sense of this classes capabilities, and feel it a viable class on the PvP Server, should anyone be considering that. Many of the battles will not be 1 vs 1. In fact, most will likely be Group vs Group, when you stop to think about it. Because of the nature of the PvP Server, people will want to group, not just for XP effectiveness, but to watch each others backs. Because of this fact, I wouldn't hesitate to roll a Troubedor on the PvP server if that is the class you enjoy.

-CC

Message Edited by ChinaCat on 02-13-200603:30 PM

On the beta server I think you get insta-buffed to level 50?

It's not as useful then, but in the lower levels for sure... you get a maintained strength debuff song that should have some wicked impact in PvP. So many people at lower levels run around with not much "give" in their encumbrance because of the strongboxes.

With a good str debuff you can knock them down easily into "heavily encumbered". Throw a snare on top of that and they'll just be crawling and you can do all sorts of nasty stuff to them from range.

At the end of the day though, you're correct, in a 1 v 1 PvP scenario bards are "okay" but they're certainly not at the top. They got hurt a lot by the changes to cheap-shot duration in PvP and so forth (they used to be better at it).

They'll do much much better in groups (even small groups with only 1 or 2 other people) than they will by themselves.

- Syll

Hello fellow troubadours, I have a question for you.Does the group buff that proc a detaunt on each melee hit work in pvp? making the melee hitting you losing target every single blow? (beware of the very nice /target_nearest.. macro though)

Thank you

No, it does not make them lose target. Hate reduction is different than hate order, which is different than target loss I had to test it, though
