The spell that troubador’s get at level 52 is one of the three legacy spells that our class gets. This spell is the troubador’s version of the dirge ability Percussion of Stone. The abilities have the ability to absorb physical dmg (dirge) or reflect spell dmg (troubador).

The Troubador’s version of this spell is: (this is not the actually description but the description is a bit cryptic so this is what it actually does. ( Master I) - 12% chance to Cast Requiem of Reflection on caster when spell damage is received. ---> Requiem of Reflection. 30 second duration - 73% to reflect spell damage received - Up to one spell reflected. - Does not reflect AE spell damage. - Does not reflect breath attacks. - Does not reflect mob special abilities.

This sounds all fine and dandy until you consider how the spell actually works in a real battle. I have been using this spell on and off for the past month to test how it actually works in several different encounter types. Below is what I found.

- Requiem of Reflection proc fired a good number of times per fight, depending of encounter mobs. BUT 80% of the time the proc timed out (30 seconds) before another spell damage was either receive or hit the 73% chance to reflect. Normally the proc was fired due to ae spells from the mob.

- When Requiem of Reflection did reflect a spell 90% of the time that spell was a tic off of a dot. Totally between 100 – 300 damage being reflected, and 30% of the time the reflected spell was resisted by the mob that it was being reflected to.

- While the Requiem of Reflection proc is on a person there is still the 12% chance to reapply the proc spell to the target instead of reflecting the spell back to the mob. Basically I have see reflection refresh it self on a person multiple times in a row instead of reflecting any damage.

- When it is considered how often requiem of reflection’s proc times out in a fight, the limitation on what abilities cast by a mob, and the time most mob delay between casts the final % is closer to 2% – 3% chance to reflect any spell damage back to a mob.

This spell ability drastically needs to be reviewed and revamped in some way. It is a great idea for the spell but in all actuality it really does not work in game.

A few suggestions that could possibly make this spell useful. One thing that applies to all of these suggestions the spell should not be able to refresh its proc until the duration of the proc has expired. Also the duration of the proc should be increase to 45 seconds

- 12% chance to proc. -> 100% chance to absorb next spell damage. Can absorb all spell damage (ae, special, breath attacks).

- 12% chance to proc -> 100% chance to reflect the next spell doing up to X damage. X = (y * int factor). Can reflect all spell damage (ae, special, breath attacks). Int factor should be based off of the int of the troubador not the person I cast on (Stupid tanks are not going to reflect much more than 5 points :-p).

This spell always sucked. I thought it was the coolest thing once I got the ability, but then after reading it I felt like I wasted a pearl on it. It's a chance to proc the effect with another chance that it cold reflect a spell in the next 30 seconds. It used to reflect some things but never reflected a good amount of damage back to the caster. Kinda makes me upset that we got an ability that is completely useless. Why do we always draw the shortest straw out of the SOE cup?

I ran this spell for 6 hours in a group because there were 2 troubs. Saw it proc maybe 6 times. Never saw anything reflected. I have not used this buff since lvl 52 as it as an utter waste of a concentration slot.

Improve this spell or remove it from my Knowledge Book as it insults me to see it there.

Based on the way the song used to work prior to the mobs' nonphysical damage revamp and the change to spell reflection ability, I can come up with only a bare few fights where this might, possible, proc enough to make it worthwhile. So here's my question:

Has anyone tried it in a MT group vs Goliathan?

Because from the parses I've seen there are precious few beasties left who deal "nonphysical" melee damage, and against whom it might be useful; he's one. (note to self: watch Goliathan's autoattack damage shift to crushing next patch)

Aye it is usefull against goliathan, and yes i'm pretty sure at least that i can remeber off hand, the only mob that deals no physical damage for its AA. Goliathan, and the mob in Shimmering Citidel, that has a extreamly fast dot is one of the very few mobs in whole game where the spell actualy does something half way usefull. But other than that there are too few mobs in the world that this spell would even be worth useing on, in its current form. The enchanters version of this (spell shield) it self is still much more usefull. though it cannot reflect stuns/charms/AEs/breath attacks it still can reflect direct spells, and its % i much higher, 93% or about that to reflect the next 3 spells. As an example watch a wizard duel a illusionest that has this spell up. Its kind of funny to watch the wizard kill him self with his own spells..

Message Edited by perano on 12-19-2005 03:01 PM

Message Edited by perano on 12-19-2005 03:01 PM

Yeah, I guess it would be semi-useful for that, but then why not just use an illusionist or coercer (whichever gets the reflection spell) That one reflect the next 3 hostile spells including DoT ticks. (But never exceeding a reflection of 3 hits of a spell... 3 dot ticks or 3 dd's) There's is a sure thing to reflect, but ours is a chance to proc a short buff to reflect one spell.

It really is great to have a ability that really only has any use in duels. Oh wait didnt the dev say they never wanted any abilites to be like that .......

I have this ancient spell as a master... and whta a waste there are very few time that is even useable much less useful. If it was all DPS on taget tooken and not jsut spell then i might use it more offten. But now... not worth my Concentration slot.
