<DIV>I was in my regular xp group, basically the same one I've been in for the last 15 levels, and tonight for fun I ran combat monitoring system to see what kind of damage everyone was doing.  The group consisted of a lvl 37 templar, 37 monk, 40 paladin, 39 assassin, and 39 swashbuckler, and me a 39 troubador.  I was recording damage for about every 10 mins, and everyone was button mashing like crazy just to see what would happen.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Not surprisingly, the assassin had the highest damage output and highest hit.  However, what was shocking is that the pally was actually pretty close in damage to the assassin and had the second highest hit at around ~400.  Then came the swash and monk, pretty much tied but a good distance behind the pally and assassin.  Sadly, my poor troub was the last for damage (except for the cleric) .... and it was by a fair amount.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sorry for the lack of numbers, but tonight when we play again I will save the results and post it to this thread.  I'll also try to keep an eye on the power bar to see who burns power the fastest.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The whole time we were doing this I was pretty much using everything in my book, including my master area dmg spell which its around ~250, and all the other atk abilities which were adept 1 which were around ~100 - 180 dmg.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyone else have similar/different results, or possible explanations?</DIV>

the reason the paladin had such high damage most probably is because spells cast on him that make him do damage from tanking count towards his DPS (and not towards the person who cast the spell)also, our proc song doesnt get logged in as our DPS .. i wonder how much it adds

oh and let alone computing our DPS + when it comes to how much more DPS the group does from haste

<DIV>Totally subjective....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I usually hunt in a group with friends. We have a Guardian, a Sorceror and a Warlock, a Cleric, and a Troubador (me).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The Guardian aggros the pull. The fun starts. I am usually in stealth and will use my haste backstab. That inevitably turns that target to me, even if the Guardian is currently targetting it. I then work through my complete set of stab powers. If the first stealthed target had turned to me, I simply target one of the other mobs and let it pound on me. This allows me to use my flank/back powers. Then I'm left with my two songs. I guarantee that after playing both my ST song, and my AoE song (I'm 22) I will have the entire party of mobs beating on me now, until the Guardian can taunt them off me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, for the subjective reason as to why our damage is so low.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>No matter whether we use DW or 1H+Shield, our ST Song takes a long time to cast. At least 3 combat beats. That entire time, I'm donig nothing else but standing there, paws in the air, snout up shouting. Then BAM it goes off. Next I use the AoE song. Again another period of idleness while the song finishes. The entire time the rest of the party is continuing to accrue attacks.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>A predator will be doing massive damage to the target in front of him, but is unlikly to get full party aggro. So, if the target aggros him, he can switch to another mob facing away and continue attacking. My troub will sing his two songs, and all of a sudden the whole party is facing me, and I'm stuck using the 3 powers that work on a facing mob.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>HOWEVER,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Please note, I'm not complaining. I'm one of those Qeynos Troubs who got the 1H sword and actually like it with a shield. With my AGI, I dance out of the way of most attacks. With my shield I block a high percentage of the ones I don't dance from. I can actually tank for a good period of time a whole group of Gnolls, green or even blue, taking little to no damage. The problem is, that being a scout, this takes two of my 5 normal stab powers completly out as they are flank.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The second thing is, my group of guildies most certainly knows when I'm not there. Their  stats are way down without my stat buffs, meaning they start getting hit more. They are way slower without my haste, and since the Guardian uses a 2H Axe, he now swings a 2X4, instead of an aluminum bat (it's way slow without haste). And there is no one with the emergency charm to help Cleric/mages take aggro off.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>However (again),</DIV> <DIV>I certainly wouldn't mind reading any logs you might be willing to post about what our various powers do manage to do.</DIV>

<DIV>I definitely agree that bards are valuable group members.  And perhaps it's not fair to compare our dps in a group setting to other classes, since everyone is sharing the benefits of our buffs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In the end though, it was the swash who was the most dissapointed it seemed.  I never expected great damage as a bard, since we have such a wide range of group utility.  The most interesting thing for me was that paladins were capable of such high dmg atk/dps.  Even with clara's midnight cadence the most I've ever hit for was 380ish on a single target.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And fwiw the log parser is great for motivating people in your group <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Log parses are a dual edged sword. Yeah, it keep people on their toes sometimes, but not always on the right toes :p It promotes the individuals dps, and forget the group. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>A good group might use the parser to track groups total dps and try to maximize that. Then its a good tool :p</DIV>

<DIV>do the same test again without your songs up.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>then add the difference in dps between the parse above and the new one, add that difference to your total dps =p</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>as i'm lurking here from the dirge forum, all i can say is i'm suprised as i never felt my dps was low, compaired to a fighter, however, compiared to other scouts aye it suffers, but then again i spend a portion of the fight casting debuffs and so lack the time to melee or position when i do so (and i know troubs get some debuffs too).</DIV> <DIV> However the resulting debuffs again allow all the others in group to land more damage and also take less damage. Untill we see more parses, and also ones that can consider the effects of our buffs and debuffs, parses aren't going to be very friendly towards bards. Also i wonder if that monk and warrior go all out for damage like that in a normal group, or wether they have to compromise with defensive skills.</DIV> <DIV>I think there is a problem however if a monk does the same as a swashbuckler of higher level, especially as the monk can tank to an extent, maybe better since the patch, than the rogue types can. With an assassin in group to track and disarm, the swashbucklers contribution to the group lies in basic cc and group stealth. Where as the monk can add equal dps and fill in if the tank falls hmmm, i feel sorry for the rogue class here alot more. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Or maybe even keep the rogue for that utility, and dump the assassin for a paladin lol, compromise suprisingly little dps for another heavy tank with agro ability.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <P>Message Edited by Jziad on <SPAN class=date_text>01-06-2005</SPAN> <SPAN class=time_text>05:50 PM</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by Jziad on <span class=date_text>01-06-2005</span> <span class=time_text>05:52 PM</span>

<DIV>Hmm.  That monk was probably A) a bit lazy compared to the paladin and B) three levels lower.  Normally, a monk blows a paladin away, DPS-wise.  Haven't seen a single log taken by a monk that showed anything other than monks doing the highest DPS of any fighter, and most of them of any melee. </DIV>

With the kind of buffs we do, I am pretty happy that we are one of the buff gods in game.Dmg are debateable considering we have all the goodies. At L25 I am doing 45 points of Str, Sta, Agi buff. That's better than any armor/jewelery stats out there for now.Raxxyl's still orange to me too! We also get hp regen, power regen, haste and more. Heck, that's the most utilitiesI have seen in any class. Maybe Illusionist will top us in buffs. If everyone out there is as informative, Troubadour'spopularity will be like Priest class LFG.With Adept 1 books generally very common for Troubadour and rare sights of Trou - we are one of the exclusive class to play.Pretty cool, IMHO.

Night after night the tank classes cleary outdamage all the scout classes except for assassin/ranger. This is at lvl 38-42. Bards are just pathetic for dps. I was grouped with another troubador and the numbers were very similar. Not a surprise anymore after seeing how low dmg our attacks are, and how long the cast time is on alot of them.I still believe our biggest asset is not in providing good dps, but in stat buffing. It's so noticeable when the stat buffs drops... in Everfrost the tank never drops below green health, but without the buffs goes red-> death in a matter of seconds. Toss on the parry/defense buffs and it makes those double group pulls which are instant death so easy to defeat. Will post numbers from tonight I promise <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<DIV>     I know im a newbie Bard but from my point of veiw we are one of the highest DPS classes in the game. In order to get our true DPS we should not only add up our attacks, but also add in the extra damage our group is doing because of our songs. This can realy add up when it comes down to it. They would not be putting out this extra damage if we were not there, because of this you are the real person doing that extra damage.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>     Just another way to look at it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>                  The Woodpile</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>P.S. Course this is only ina group environment.</DIV>

L25 Troubadour - All my damaging moves are Adept I. The highest they go is almost 200+I see my L20 Ranger friend - all moves still App I or App II - he easily do 100 easily (fast!)His general sneak attack moves are 200+. And that's 5 levels below me. So imagine if he's L25with Adept I moves. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Of course he doesn't have the cool buffs I have. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
