View Full Version : Is alchemy a must ?
<DIV>I recently started a brigand on another server from the one in which I play my ranger because of the selling offline issue. My ranger is an alchemist. I am tired of crafting as I have three crafters on my old server so this time round I was just going to make the brigand a provisioner. This means I will be buying store poisons.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>How important is it for me to be able to craft debuffs like those that reduce poison resist or mitigation to slashing if I am a brigand.I have no real idea although I use a poison debuff with a high DoT on my ranger I never actually parsed or any such thing to find out how effective it is with or without the debuff.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Those of you who play this class can you please advice me on whether it is important and an essential thing to take up alchemy or are store bought enough ?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
I just buy the poisons i use...<div></div>

<div></div>For consumeables (or well all crafting, but especially consumeables), I've always found it much more convenient and practical to just buy the stuff from broker. Why spend time crafting to be able to make something, when you could have spent that time adventuring (and that way earning the cash to buy the stuff instead)..? Of course, unless you ENJOY crafting, or are looking to make some cash out of it by crafting for others. But maybe that wasnt your question. Are debuff poisons worth it? Sure, better than not using them, but hardly something you notice if you forget them IMO. You need to debuff around 4000 to any mitigation to reach the cap (where your attacks do 50% more damage). So if you have a debuff poison that decreases poison mitigation by 1000, your poisons will do 12.5% more damage. AFAIK, these numbers hold true for ALL levels (1-70), so debuff poisons become more effective as you reach higher levels. For example, a level 10 poison debuffing say ~200 to poison mitigation will be pretty neglible, while the level 60 one debuffing ~1000 will have greater impact. It shouldnt be that way I know, but thats the result of mitigation debuff caps not scaling with level. Also consider the length of the fights. As heroic mobs die so fast nowadays, debuffs play a lesser role (especially debuffs you cant apply at start of fight, but instead have to wait for them to eventually proc). So my advice would be... only craft if thats what you really wanna spend your time doing. :p<div></div><p>Message Edited by verydanger on <span class=date_text>05-25-2006</span> <span class=time_text>01:05 AM</span>

Don't use store-bought poisons unless you want to [Removed for Content] your damage output.Buy player-made poisons from the broker instead.Don't waste time on a tradeskill unless you intend to use it to make money. Provisioner is certainly the most profitable profession on the PvP servers.<div></div>
On my server there are exactly two alchemists who stock T7 poisons. One charges insane prices, and the other is fairly reasonable. But... two... on the whole server? Wow. It certainly isn't a must, apparently. Most people get their guildmates to make theirs, for cost.

The new crafting system is so fast I think it is worth the effort. Even reasonable prices are usually 5x cost. I am an alchemist, with a jeweler alt and a best friend as a provisioner I rarely buy player made anything off the broker.
<DIV>Looked at the prices of the player made and they were to put it mildly rather expensive so I guess I will have no choice but to be one. Thanks for the advice.</DIV>
