OK I am about to hit level 30 with my brig and wanted some suggestions on armor. My guildies can make anything I want if I get the rares so I need to know what the best gear to get at level 30 is. I dont just want to buy whatever the best of the broker is at the time, I want great gear to last for a while. I would use the "dynamic item search database" but it sucks and is worthless. How can most websites have better item info than SOE? Anyway, I am at work and can't access all of those good websites, just SOE's forums.

So far I am have been using duel piercing weapons, I have heard people say you should use 1 piercing and 1 slashing, what are your guys thoughts on it?

I always use onepiercer and one slasher. The reason is you need to raise both those skills and using one of each makes it so you don't have to spend time going back and raising one. I would work on my polished granite tomahawk heritage if I were you because it's probably the best slasher you can get at that level.

As far as armor goes, I assume you must be talking about rare crafted armor (because of the guildie comment). At 30, it's tier 4 rare armor which I believe is feysteel but I'm not quite sure. I didn't bother getting rare armor until I got into my forties because it just gets replaced and really isn't needed much before then. The common crafted is feyiron at that level.

I always have one piercer and one slasher, both to maintain skills and to affect mobs that may be resistant or immune to one type or another.as far as other equipment goes... common crafted jewelry is quite good at all tiers, but you're going to have to decide if you want 1 or 2 sets of equipment. You can go with one set, and balance it, or specialize with two. personally I have a set of "damage" gear, and a set of "mitigation" gear. The mitigation gear has high mitigation, agility, and stamina. The damage gear has high strength and if possible agility, but strength on every piece, for sure.So pick the jewelry with STR for damage, and AGI/STA for mitigation, if you want.Ideally you'll be blowing through the levels pretty quick. If you get rare crafted / fabled gear at 30, you shouldn't have to buy anything until t6 rare crafted, which you can wear at 45 or 47, i forget, but if you do it right, you could only need two sets from 30-60.

I totally agree with the previous posters. Work on getting your PGT, its one of the best weapons in the game for its lvl. When it proc's, it gives you +str, wards you for damage, and replenishes power. It's useable at lvl 32 and should last you well into the 40's until you can get the serrated bone dirk and/or short sword of the ykesha. I personally use an imbued feysteel leafblade and the PGT so i can have a piercer and a slasher at all times. For armor, get feysteel if you can find it and/or afford it. Or get a set of feyiron and add feysteel if you find some later on. I like to have the extra mitigation of feysteel because of how easy it is to draw agro. I personally went with feysteel chest and legs, then legendary leather (engraved i believe, @work now so cant say for sure) for the rest. Feysteel clusters were pure extortion at the time (~45g+) but the rare leather was very reasonable and still has great stats. I then found another feysteel cluster and had the feysteel weapon made. Given how fast the 30's are going, investing in a full set of feysteel may not be the best choice economically depending on your server prices. I have a full set of ebon armor waiting for when i ding 40, but the 40's will last a lot longer so i could justify the expense easier. Also in the 40's you can get the SBD and SSOY from heritage quests so you basically get a really nice pierce and slash weapon for free that are about equal to ebon weapons. Keep up the harvesting. Finding a rare and having a weapon/armor made by a guildie is cheap and a lot more satisfying then paying the extortion on the brokers.
