Updated this info further down the thread.<strike>This post describes the difference in cost between player crafted and storebought T5 common damage-only poisons.Note: The following presumes all harvests are free. This is obviously not true from at least a time perspective.Combines:1) ashen roots + aerated mineral water + beeswax candle = 4 pristine golgi oil (9s28c total, 2s32c each)2) teak or ashen roots + aerated mineral water + beeswax candle = 4 pristine golgi resin (9s28c total, 2s32c each)3) diamondine or bloodstone + golgi oil + beeswax candle = enneanoid reagent + enneanoid loam (9s22c)4) enneanoid loam + 2 lustrous black coal = unblemished superb poison vial (18s44c)5) unblemished superb poison vial + supernal suspension + golgi resin + beeswax candle = Translucent Hypnotic Shock (7 / 7 charges) (18s44c)Combine 1 is 2s32cCombine 2 is 2s32cCombine 3 is 9s22cCombine 4 is 18s44cCombine 5 is 18s44cT5 NPC Alchemist Vendor sells 200 skill poison for 30s72c for 5 charges of NPC poison, that's 6s14c per doseTotal Player-Created cost is 50s74c, so at 7 charges that's 7s24c per poison dose. You could reduce this cost slightly by selling back the enneanoid reagent for 3s or so. This would drop the price to ~6s82c. (still more expensive than storebought)Conclusion: At ~1s more per dose for player crafted, no greater damage, no greater duration, and a massive time sink, the NPC purchased damage-only poisons are superior, at the moment.SOE: Please increase the number of charges on player made poisons to 10. This will make them clearly superior to storebought. Alternately, make them last for 200 procs instead of 100, or make them vastly more potent. Whatever you do, make the distinction clear that player made poisons are better. (if indeed this is a design goal)</strike>
Message Edited by agra on 04-08-2005 07:29 AM

I'd say they need to be 12-15 charges per vial, unless SOE changes the component price to make the poisons. After all, not only does the production cost have to be cheaper then vendor-sold, but cheaper by enough that the craftsman can make a profit (that makes up for the effort).Maybe 10 charges on least quality, 11 for next best, 14 for regular, 16 for pristine.
Message Edited by WuphonsReach on 03-30-2005 05:24 PM

I would actually prefer increased potency over number of charges. Not that it matters much though, i'll still buy playermade poisons. I had three vials of the rare lvl 39 poison made but it turns out they're bugged; The vial is grey to me at lvl 38 and the description says it will only proc once her charge. I /bugged it and hopefully SOE will fix it before the level 39 poisons turns grey to me :smileywink:

I was figuring this the other day as well Agra. I was talkign to a Swashie in my guild who didn't knwo about poisons and I basically told him this same thing. Just buy NPC poison until they do something noticable to player made. Plus, the 200 level poisons sell for more then the cost to make by quite a bit at times so you're paying a premium for those extra 2 charges on one dose.

I'm going to leave my previous posting, but update it with new info...--------Combines:1) ashen roots + aerated mineral water + beeswax candle = 4 pristine golgi oil (9s28c total, 2s32c each, two consumed in total)2) teak or ashen roots + aerated mineral water + beeswax candle = 4 pristine golgi resin (9s28c total, 2s32c each, two consumed in total)3) diamondine or bloodstone + golgi oil + beeswax candle = enneanoid reagent + enneanoid loam (9s22c) - sellback on the enneanoid reagent is 13s22c, cost to produce -4s4) enneanoid loam + 1 golgi oil + 1 golgi resin + 2 lustrous black coal = 3 x unblemished superb poison vial (18s44c total, 6s15c each)5) unblemished superb poison vial + supernal suspension + golgi resin + beeswax candle = Translucent Hypnotic Shock (7 / 7 charges) (18s44c)Combine 1 is 4s64c towards total costCombine 2 is 4s64c towards total costCombine 3 is -4sc (with sellback of enneanoid reagent)Combine 4 is 6s15c towards total costCombine 5 is 18s44c towards total costTotal Player-Created cost is 29s87c with sellbacks and multiple-item combines. That's 4s26c per dose. At 200 procs per dose, that's the equivalent of 2s13c per T5 player made damage+dot "normal" poison. (if comparing to 5 dose 100 proc NPC sold poison)T5 NPC Alchemist Vendor sells 200 skill poison for 30s72c for 5 charges of NPC poison, that's 6s14c per dose, at 100 procs per dose.NPC made: 6s14c per 100-procs. PC made: 2s13c per 100-procs.Given these new numbers, there is a distinct advantage in player crafted poison, strictly from a cost perspective. This does not take into account harvesting time, or crafting time, but certainly for me personally, as an Alchemist, I will be making my own poisons henceforth.EDIT: 20050409 to update vial recipe components
Message Edited by agra on 05-09-2005 12:56 PM

You shouldn't count the sell back price of enneanoid loam in step 3 when you are using it in step 4 for making the vials. --Benzeen

the combine produces loam and reagent. I was referring to the reagent. I'll change this in the post for clarification.

ooops, I didn't even think of the reagent. I guess normally I refine the rocks for the reagents to make inks, so the thought of selling them back to vendor never occured to me. Sorry about that. --Benzeen

They will proc 200 times. The proc rate over time will remain the same.

You've missed adding the costs of the WORT's used in the vial combine.
