View Full Version : why stand still to cast pathfinding?

I can cast snoop, burgle, rough skin, and I forget what else while I'm on the run. But if I want to cast my run buff I have to stop and stand still? This seems a bit odd to me. It never fails that when my group is dashing around somewhere I notice that pathfinding is about to wear off. So I stop to recast and the group continues on running out of sight. Sure I can sprint and catch up, but couldn't we just update pathfinding to allow it to be cast on the run?Vlademir DeLere [Reign of Chaos]Lucan D'Lere

It seems if we are not complaining about one broken thing we want another thing that we never had. Just be satisfied and stop acting spoiled. This does not just apply to you Atrocity but alot of other people here lately.

Yeah I knew that replay was coming, and this isn't so much a complaint as a genuine question about why some buffs are castable on the move and some aren't. And of all the ones that can't be cast on the move why is the run speed buff one of them.Yes I can say to my group hold on a sec, but I've also found it difficult to chat while moving and steering at the same time. Once I start typig I can't use my keys to steer and I have to take my hands off the keyboard to use the mouse which doesn't help with chatting. Not to mention I'm trying to enjoy my glass of wine, talk on the phone, balance my checking account, cook dinner, plan a weekend getaway with the wife, all at the same time. So in general asking the group to stop takes more time than it's worth. Half the time the group will be across the map before they've even noticed the chat text. Which brings me to my current situation of just stoping to cast while the group runs off.So if we can change pathfinding to work on the move I think that would be an excellent change for everyone concerned, hopefully not too much work for the devs, nothing that would create a major imballance, and a tiny bone to be thrown to the scout class.

If you have to stop to cast a speed buff, stop to cast a sneak. It just doesn't amke sense. But lately I have seen alot of people complaining that are class is borked or either comming here to brag. I fear the nerf bat I have seen its evil ways in SWG. Plus having to camp around 6 and a half hours for a spawn(without getting the spawn) does not help to this. I am planning on making some sort of thread in the quests section about how awful some of our spawn timmers are on some mobs. I am not going to go into it now because this is not the place for that topic. I will try to easy up for now and put some water on the fire.

<DIV>Well, Pathfinding will still hit your group mates, it has a pretty large range, and if it didn't hit them it should start affecting them anyway once you get close enough. I don't see this as a big issue really... I don't know why you can't be running but, to be honest, it doesn't really matter much. Never thought about it though.</DIV>

<DIV>Pathfinding and SoW were 7hour buffs, pretty much like any hp or resistance buff, in beta....no idea why they changed it towards the end of bet and into retail. As a scout I pretty much always have pathfinding up .... I don't know what the point is for having to stop every, now, 10min and recast. Its only what....16% adjustmant to runspeed anyway. /shrug</DIV>

Not like it takes much power to do but instead time. If they would put it back to 7 hours that would be great.

I had no idea pathfinding used to last so long. That would certainly take care of any inconvenience of having to stand still to cast.

put it this way the only benefit we get from extending the timer is we don't have that inconvenience of stopping to rebuff it. I don't see extending the timer or making it reapplicable on the move to unbalance the scout classes at all.
