<DIV>I have a level 12 rogue I'm planning to work into a brigand - out of all the scouts this seemed the most interesting.  My question is, how are they as far as damage?  I was reading another forum (vnboards maybe) wherein a brigand felt his class wasn't really a damage dealing class.  Where do they stand, especially with the new changes to wizards and warlocks?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

In the Scout Damage Tree: We are in the middle. In the Class Archetype Tree: We are in the middle.Scouts in general will produce less DPS than Wizards or Warlocks. This is all according to SOE. Your mileage may vary.

Wait......what am I saying. I predict this class will see the nerf bat more times around. So if I where you, go swashbuckler. It is about the same but with less of the hype. (Ruse is replaced with a mezz, good for soloing or in general.)

Lol well I will put it this way I was grouping with one of our patrons who was playing an alt we were ripping through lvl25,26 critters in nek and getting really good xp, his comment to the group was it was great having 2 assasins in the group and the wiz/warlock buff combined was making his life as a tank really tough to hold agro even with an adept 3 taunt's <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Thing was we were both <u>brigands</u> not a single assasin to be seen! Also double tapping mobs with ruse (adpet 1 and 3) makes for an impressive combo at times (and still freaks some healers out as we usually get a little aoe dmg at the start too <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />)IMHO Assasins have been labeled as the Uber Leet early on because of the eq2players leaderboard being all assasins, brigands on the other hand have slipped under the radar and those that know what they are about want a brigand over an assasin these days (my combat stats always seem to give me a better DPS than any assasin I group with unless its a real short fight, and even then if I get ruse of I might still come out on top)!I don't particularly have anything against assasins, but quite simply brigands just rock!

<DIV>dont make an assasin, trust me.  Currently there is no reason to ever roll one. Stick with Brigand  =)   </DIV>

<DIV>I think part of our success is that we get a lot of adept 1s easily so our attacks are upgraded better then many of the other scout classes. Rangers in particular seem to have a hard time finding any Adepts. When the Brigand is played properly, you are a damage machine. I have not been outparsed to date when I am giving everything I have. I know a few others who say the same thing. The only time I have been outparsed, is on larger group pulls when a Wizard was able to do group attacks. In single and small group pulls though, no contest. I pull agro away from tanks two levels higher routinely. I never see another scout class take agro more then a brigand. I chuckle at Assassins when they brag about their DPS and I start up the parser. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>Personally, I LOVE it!!</DIV> <DIV>Case point, my b/f had a guardian out doing his thing against yellows. I'm in TS with my weaponsmith trying to finish a batch of carbonite piercers, but he's spending a lot of downtime healing between fights. Asked him if he wanted a little company from my DPS machine and he says yeah, sure....</DIV> <DIV>So toon swap to the Brig, run out to Nek.... we start comparing notes, despite being so close in levels, it's usually my Coercer that's been grouped with his Guardian. We simul-pull with bows.... he gets 100 dam, I get close to 50% more than that with Strangling Shot + poisons. I don't even get to finish one run through of my specials before the mob is kaput taking the dirt nap. Yes, I did snag aggro a couple times, despite having the long term up, I still had to hit 'evade' to give him aggro back. Mobs went down in 1/3 the time it took him to do it solo, and because I have my stuns/debuffs mixed into my specials, he took nearly no damage. We had a blast chain pulling until server reset. Gained almost 3/4 level in 1 hr for each of us, never had an issue, was great fun!</DIV> <DIV>His comment after was the Guild needs a new battle-chanter</DIV>

Hence the name "SOLO". So of course you people did so well. I am sure if any other class went and helped it out the same thing would have happened. (Not trying to be harsh, I play and love my Brigand also. Just hate this false hype)

<blockquote><hr>Dtrick wrote:Just wait until you get Ruse :smileyhappy:<hr></blockquote>Hehe and then just wait until you get it upgraded! I don't care what the expense of a palladium or jasper cluster is on your server its worth a serious consideration forgoing all else just to upgrade (price gougers aside) solo mob's drop in seconds (the longest downtime is waiting on the 60sec timer <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />) and group mob's go down in half the time. At 25 I am now hitting for 700-800 routinely with an adept3 its awesome. As for the guardian+brigand combo its possible to bring down group mobs of blue/green (not single ups though) if you pick the correct type some are harder than others but generally for group mobs you need Tank+healer+DPS as a minimum to be really effective.

Currently, I play 3 different classes... a mid-30s SK, a mid-20s brigand, and a mid-teens summoner. My favorite, by far, is the brigand and I wished I had rolled one up from the start. Bard didn't really interest me, and assassin seems to be all about damage. Brigands, OTOH, are very group-friendly that I feel like there's always *something* that I can be doing to make the group more effective. Some of this stuff other classes get too, but in the course of an hour I can:- debuff the mob (Rake, Knockaround)- cast Pathfinding- disarm traps- advance, flip, and complete HOs- stun the mob to reduce its damage output- group invis, useful for moving or AFKs- evac when fights go bad- sneak ahead and scout- track rare mobs and pull them to the group- hop around the mob like a mad little dwarf and do serious burst damage- tank in a pinch until we find a plate class- use my poisons and our de-aggro buff- put a hurting on the mob (Ruse) if it does turn on meWe're not just about the damage and I never feel bored when I play my brigand (as opposed to being a SK who isn't the MA).<p>Message Edited by WuphonsReach on <span class=date_text>02-25-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:11 AM</span>

<DIV>Thanks for all the replies.  I just wanted a scout class that did respectable damage - I don't have to be the greatest damage dealer that ever lived.  My other characters are a Templar and a Coercer, so I need a change of pace.</DIV>
