I'm a brigand on the test server, level 24 currently. With the new big patch, we're offered special training every ten levels. For the level 20 training I chose Elisi's Wounding Gash and I have zero regrets. This is a great replacement for Backstab. It's high damage (I've hit for 220 with it) and a 30 second timer. It's also back OR flank positional, so you don't have to worry so much about positioning as with Backstab. So, if you want a better skill for rear/flanking attacks, I highly recommend this one when you're offered your training options.

<DIV>Is it on the same timer as Backstab, Hidden Shiv, etc.?</DIV>

<DIV>I grabbed this skill as well.  It is on the same timer as backstab / hidden shiv, and hidden shiv is way better.  I'd pick something else if you already have hidden shiv, I wish I had.  Wounding Gash has slightly higher initial damage in my quick testing on greys near the docks in commons (250ish instead of 220ish) but hidden shiv deals another 250ish damage in its DOT (that's hidden shiv adept 1).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I also nabbed Locke's careless sideswipe, as it looked like it would be a good upgrade to sneak attack, which still hasn't been replaced for me.  Alas, no, it is on the same timer as distracting blade.  This skill does 100ish initial damage, 14 initial DOT, then ticks for 27 3 times at its initial skill level.  Distracting blade does roughly 190 initial damage at adept 1 and also interrupts.  The only bargain of this skill is that it costs only 27 power while distracting blade costs 45.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The useful skill I picked up was Elisi's Aggressive Stabs.  This was a large upgrade to vicious flurry.  It hit 3 times instead of 2, hit for more damage per hit, also had the interrupt component, and cost only 35 power instead of 33.  It was on the same timer and will definitely be a good replacement skill.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I was level 32 when I picked these, so there's a perspective for anyone around that level.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There were some other interesting looking skills, especially the last option - one of them was an upgrade to risky advance that I might have picked except for the way it was worded - "has a chance to hit additional targets on each swing" - now that sounds like it could be a lot of extra damage, but it also sounds like it could mean [Removed for Content] off enchanters or even random adds of non aggro mobs that are underfoot.  Luckily, I'm happy with Elisi's Aggressive Stabs, so I don't think I really missed out.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also, my stat gains with each option were +4 to my chosen stat, my resist gain was +103.  I picked Calm (power regen) in hopes that it works in combat or will let me get by with lower tier drinks in groups <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV><p>Message Edited by Schortt on <span class=date_text>01-06-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:21 AM</span>

Can anyone verify if the level 30 Training choice/upgrade to Risky Advance is <b>Encounter Only</b> or a blanket AoE?<p>Message Edited by agra on <span class=date_text>01-06-2005</span> <span class=time_text>02:03 PM</span>

<DIV>ya exactly,i picked the high damage flank attack as well as one of my "specialization" abilities and its on the same timer as hidden shiv.. Now,thanks for the nifty special abilities but my god,why not put as a side note that they will be on the same timer as skills u already have?? [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] SOE,who the hell is running things.. Thats very [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] backwards if you ask me.. I'll never use that attack,i'll keep hidden shiv sine its better,,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Although on a more positive note,i did pick up the atack that is on the same timer as quick flurry, but i miagine i'll get a replacement for that one soon to which will be better than what i already picked.. I took the swift sneak abilitiy instead of the low dmg one,and glad i did since that is also on a timer of one of my abilities which is better... </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Seriously,it would have been nice upon picking these abilities that SOE could have put a level indicator for the abilities we chose, and on the description put a side note of what abilities they correspond with..  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>After the patch I'm still not happy with SOE,, Certain things i want implemented arent being looked at,and i'm gonna cancel my eq2 account and focus on WoW for my free month..</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Seems alot mor people are doing the same thing... One has to ask why? I'll tell you all why..</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>EQ2 NEEDS SOME SORT OF PVP,REALM VS REALM,GOOD VS EVIL COMBAT SYSTEM IMPLEMENTED!!!!</DIV> <DIV>EQ2 SHOULD HAVE MORE SOLO CONTENT FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO SOLO AND NOT BE FORCED TO GROUP ALL THE TIME!!</DIV> <DIV>OUR CHARACTERS NEED MORE OF A PURPOSE UNIQUE TO OTHER SIMILAR CLASSES!!</DIV> <DIV>I'D LIKE TO SEE A COLOR CODE OF ARMOR AND WEAPONS THAT ARE RARE AND COMMON.</DIV> <DIV>GROUP MOBS ARE TO POWERFUL,ITS JUST A REPETITIVE DRAWN OT SYSTEM WHEN LEVELING.. YOU GROUP,FIGHT FOR HOURS,LEVEL,AND REPEAT THE PROCESS.. THERES NO REAL FUN IN THAT WAY OF SYSTEM!  WE NEED SOME SORT OF CHANGE THAT WILL KEEP US INTERESTED... "HINT"  PVP,GOOD VS EVIL.. DEPENDING ON HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU KILL,YOU CAN OBTAIN RANKING POINTS TO EARN PERHAPS DIFFERENT TITLES,REWARDS,GAIN GOOD FACTION WITH YOUR CITIES,ETC.. I UNDERSTAND WE HAVE THIS ALREADY,BUT ITS THROUGH BORING [Removed for Content] WRITS U DO OVER AND OVER AGAIN,AND BY  COMPLETING LONG DRAWN OUT HERITAGE QUESTS IN WHICH I'VE COMPLETED 4 ALREADY EARNING ME #26 OVERALL ON MY SERVER FOR MOST GUILD POINTS...WOOPIE DOO.. PLEASE PUT REALM VS REALM,GOOD VS EVIL IN SOON!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>WHEN PLAYING MY LEVLE 31 CHARACTER FOR HOURS UPON HOURS,I CANT REALLY GET INTO MY CHARACTER.. WHY? WELL BECAUSE I'M GROUPED ALL THE TIME WITH 5 OTHER PEOPLE WHEN I NEED TO ACCOMPISH ANYTHING..  I HAVE ONE BASIC JOB.. GIVE THE GROUP ITS NEEDED DMG.. THATS IT.. ITS [Removed for Content] BORING!!  EVERYONE WILL GET BORED OF THEIR CHARACTERS AFTER A WHILE.. WHY WILL THEY U ASK??  WELL BECAUSE THE GAME IS BORING!! YOU HAVE TO RELY ON OTHER PEOPLE TO ACCOMPISH ANYTHING.. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>PLEASE GIVE OUR CHARACTERS MEANING AND A PURPOSE..  I DONT WANNA GO TO WOW,BUT ITS A MORE FUN GAME.. THE DEVS,IF YOU ARE READING THIS,OR ANY MODERATORS,IF YOU HAVEN'T VISITED THE WOW FORUMS,OR TAKEN A SLIGHT ITNEREST AT THE MECHANICS AND GAMEPLAY FEATURES WOW OFFERS,PLEASE TAKE THE TIME AND DO SO.. So here's the list of Level 30 choices..<i>Locke's Cussing Gale - Generates a large amount of hate on the target.</i>- Presumably an upgrade to Cuss, and would share the same timer.<i>Tani's Slaparound - Decreases enemy defense and agility.</i>- Presumably an upgrade to Knockaround, and would share the same timer.<i>Nestral's Ambidextrerous Display - Increasees melee attack techniques and reduces defense techniq. It also grants a chance that the Brigand will strike additional targets with each hit.</i>- Presumably an upgrade to Rough Skin, but it's not been confirmed or denied what the 'strike additional targets' means with respect to encounter-only AoE or radius-based AoE.<i>Elisi's Aggresive Stabs - Three high damage attacks that interrupt casting.</i>- Presumably an upgrade to Vicious Flurry, and would share the same timer.Any confirmation you can personally offer regarding these skills, their power, casting time, recovery time, recast time, required skill value, mastery skill value, and shared timer (if any) please post them here.

Now that I have seen the post on training skill's I wish I had picked the quick strike replacement (ie same thing just doesn't use power) instead of the sneak attack replacement (didn't know it used the distracting blade timer as sneak attack doesn't <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> ).I picked the circular strike DoT one at 20 probably not too bad a choice the rash adv and backstab replacements don't seem to be too appealing the gouge one could have been good though with the interrupt.

<DIV>I also took Elisi's Wounding Gash and it was a big mistake. I was lucky enough to purchase Hidden Shiv Master 1, and apparently it shares a timer with Elisi's. Hidden Shiv Master outdamages Elisi by quite a bit so I will never use it.</DIV> <P>Message Edited by Niende on <SPAN class=date_text>01-06-2005</SPAN> <SPAN class=time_text>10:01 PM</SPAN></P><p>Message Edited by Niende on <span class=date_text>01-06-2005</span> <span class=time_text>10:01 PM</span>

<DIV>Swifthand, go play WoW, it suits your tastes more. What you want is for EQ2 to become WoW, I bet most people playing this game don't want that. PvP = nerf fest. And SOE already likes to nerf like crazy, PvP will give them even more reason to do so.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And one of the biggest reasons a lot of people play is that the game does encourage grouping over soloing, because even if it's hard to get a group together and work together, it pays off with more exp and rewards. Although, they should add a little more solo content, I mean right now, soloing is there but... it seems to only be there so you can entertain yourself while you seek a party really.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Again, if you think the game is boring, then play WoW. Just don't pick a Warrior, they are nerfed really bad.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And EQ2 will last longer than WoW, as long as SOE doesn't severely mess up AGAIN... WoW is short.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Ratings mean nothing. Whenever some WoW troll brags about how good WoW is all they can ever say is "it got better scores" and "it has more people". If you ask why it's fun they say "it just is everything blends together" and will never give any specifics.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc0033>Anyway, back on topic then!</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#cc0033></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ffffff>I'm not going to choose my traits or whatever yet. Personally, I haven't even logged on today. Everything in the game seems broken because SOE put in a broken patch. I don't see why they follow oh... EVERYONE'S advice and do smaller patches. It wouldn't break the game with minor errors, where as this big patch practically gives a rollback in quests, nerfed skills for many classes, and more.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm a sad Kerra <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>was also little disappointed when I found out that this is on the shiv timer, but now I can use something instead of hidden shiv when the tank positiones the mob with its back to some wall, tree etc so I cant get behind it, just flanking attacks work (hmm really should write a macro to tell the tanks not to do so)</DIV> <DIV>the stabs are a nice replacement for vicious flurry (which I only managed to get as app3) , one more nice skill I can use when having agro on me (soloing or temporary tanking)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>would have been nice to have more info on the skills before I chose them <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

I took Elisi's aggressive stabs and it's still better than the last upgrade to our double attack line.Level 40 ability I chose was erm, the one that sounds exactly like a replacemet/upgrade to knockaround, but also drains power. It's on the same timer as knockaround, takes 30some power to cast and drains a variable amount of power from the mob-between 38 and 42 just from what I noticed last night. Will edit post when I'm in game with exact names for the lvl 40 power.

<DIV>I chose "Locke's Kick" for my level 20 skill and I am very happy with this choice.  As far as I have read, gouge does not get an upgrade and this makes for a great upgrade to gouge.  I was kicking mobs for 150 damage last night, which is double the damage if not triple what gouge normally does.</DIV>

<DIV>We do get a gouge upgrade, Vicious Stab. Doesn't have the same traits, but is on the same timer.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I picked Hanns's Quick Stab at 20 since it said it was a Quick Strike upgrade. Nope, it's on the Disarming Thrust/Bludgeon timer. Disarming Thrust is better. Unless they fix this, I got a lemon.</DIV>
