it all depends... if your more into wasting all your damage in the first 20 seconds of battle and waiting 3-5 mins to re attack go assassin... if you wanna do specials all throughout the fight and do close to the same damage then do brigand...

<DIV>-wish ruse didn't guarantee i'd be hit for full damage, keep me out of combat for 5 seconds, and prevent me from getting quest/kill credit</DIV> <DIV>-wish we actually had stuns instead of [Removed for Content] mezes</DIV> <DIV>-wish rogues were the only class that could cast group stealth</DIV> <DIV>-wish i could use two handed spears</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>otherwise they're ok.</DIV>

Played my Nec to 28, was having an ok time, a little upset because there were so many summoners everywhere. One day I accidently logged onto one of my "name camper" chars, so I messed with him a bit.<BR><BR>A few days later I was playing a slightly twinked Rogue, and today I am playing my new main, I would not go back for anything, <EM>I love my Brigand</EM>.<BR>

I enjoy my brigand a lot. Finding a group can be difficult at times, but I am seeing a lot of dps classes these days with their LFG flag on for 10 mins+ Soloing can be tricky if you do not have decent gear. Try to buy/quest/trade for the best you can get since it will help you alot when soloing. After I completed the Armor Quests, I noticed a huge jump in my survivability while soloing. Ruse is an amazing skill to have.

<DIV>My observations on Brigand for what they are worth:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have a 22 SK, a 17 Shaman, a 10 Sorcerer, and my lvl 22 Brigand.  After playing each of them I've come to some realizations.  Brigand is a very fun class for me to play.  Only complaint is the lack of cool looking animations in your attacks (less than even the fighter classes), that being said it is somewhat justified by the utility and effectiveness of this sub-class.  My roomie is an Assassin on his secondary, yeah side by side I can tell you if you want bragging rights for popping the mob for single high damage hits spread out in the fight...play assassin.  However, if you want some solid adrenaline pumping pummelling of slightly less damage per hit but NON-STOP throughout the fight for about the same overall average dps as the assassin GO BRIGAND!  Not only can you smack your target around as fast as you can click your buttons, but you can cripple your target very effectively in the process and (don't jump me for this guys) if all goes wrong I have found my Brigand to be an "adequate" tank for the remainder of the fight.  And lets face it when the tank goes down those mages and priests really need someone to step up.  Why not an assassin for that?  Well they could but so many of their attacks have to be done from behind and/or in stealth they have a really hard time maintaining aggro with the limited attacks they will have left.  Yeah a Brigand is gonna lose maybe 2/3 of your attacks too...but you have some great ones left and get Cuss to fill in the left over which is your very own version of taunt!  I've filled in many times and on rare occassion for quest groups (not recommended for hardcore XP groups) have even been the main tank in a group because no one else was available.  It's not your role, but I'm pointing out some diversity in the job.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Additionally, you have some great utility skills that people often overlook...smuggle/burgle for one.  OK so the group went down bad or maybe you need to get to the back of Edgewater Drains for a quest...smuggle the whole group back there with group invis safely.  Yeah ok so maybe mages can invis you too and maybe even better at times...but with lots of aggro in the area and a whole party to do it to would you wait for one person at a time or one cast and everyone is in stealth!?!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This class has such potential and will provide you a lot of room to develop your own play-style learning what works best for you and discover new depths to your job.  If you're someone who likes to diversify and strive to fill any gap with an all around butt kicking class...Brigand...you won't regret it.  A couple things you'll see though along your way (don't let them deter you) are a sense that you aren't really providing much value add to the group as a Rogue ... don't worry at 20 when you turn Brigand that journey will be justified; and you may encounter less invites for groups.  Why?  Well you aren't a tank and you aren't a healer...people KNOW they want those.  What next in a group? DPS...well let's get a caster...ok need more DPS...oh oh...I know...Assassins always put up such big numbers floating above the heads of the mobs whenever I've grouped with one...invite one of those!  Sad but true, most other people don't realize your potential in a party, or have grouped with rogues earlier and felt them maybe a little lacking in the dps department.  Your biggest damage (well at my level since I'm speaking from only personal experience) is Ruse and what is working against you on that is everyone in the group will see that big floaty number as some smiteful smack from God or an unexplained environmental oddity in the game, but the last thing they will think is that it came from YOU!  It doesn't show in the log as YOUR damage so alas you go unnoticed for your sneakiness most times.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sorry I've droned on but wanted to provide you some thoughts since I've played several classes in the game and fell in love with this one.  Read the posts on here and around the boards, you'll find lots of arguments between the two jobs you're asking about, not saying one or the other is right...but one thing you will see is almost everyone who has played a brigand says they enjoy it, that says something :smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Jascal 22 Ratonga Brigand - Antonia Bayle</DIV><p>Message Edited by brodiemcd on <span class=date_text>01-05-2005</span> <span class=time_text>02:26 PM</span>

<DIV>Hi Ringarion,</DIV> <DIV>     Only thing I know about dirge is from what I've read in the strategy guide so I'd hate to speak about that class not having any experience with it.  Perhaps someone here can answer better or maybe post in the main scout den and see if someone can fill in the blanks for you.  Think most of what you were talking about as far as abilities hits a lot of it.  Brigands are diverse like I said.  I think most scout classes are gonna get some form of an ability that lessens hate generated against them because of the amount of damage they do (compared to say...the tank), for brigands (my level) it's called Self Preservation...lower levels it's evade but that's a basic one and doesn't stay active like Self Preservation.  Other than that Brigands don't really have skills to "deal" with aggro short of beating it to death <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> No crowd control really.  We have a stun but it's nothing like mez and even the swashbuckler version seems to last longer.  It's also very hard to pull off in a group without you or someone else breaking it in the madness.  It has only lasted a few seconds for me ever, and is best for soloing...stun...stop your melee attack move behind the target quickly and get in one of those high damage attacks from behind while he stands there stupified. You do indeed have some big attacks like Backstab, Ruse, Hidden Shiv, Gouge, Bludgeon etc to name a few.  You mentioned positional attacks, position is a Brigand's life...you'll hear people talk about the "Brigand's Dance" haha that's because he's gonna be running all around the mob hitting it from different angles.  I think it's safe to say if the brigand is not moving all around the target during the fight, they aren't utilizing all of the attacks at their disposal.  Certain attacks have to be performed from a certain position and Brigand is king of positional fighting.  You have an ARSENAL of debuffs everything from agility to defense and even some DOT's.  You can stun, knockdown, lower their attack strength and speed...you imagine it...you can probably cripple the creature in that way.  Currently the buffs I have are ONLY for yourself, they modify your attacks by making you hit harder and more accurately, even hit ULTRA hard at the sacrifice of some defense (not that you're needing the extra defense if you're not the tank anyway), and if it turns on you or you're tanking...you have a self-buff to raise your pary skill so you don't get hit as often.  Smuggling the party is a great useful trait you'll have that I don't think the other scouts get (rogue only I believe).  You'll get a version of stealth for yourself that will make you feign death if something breaks it and attacks you...which is very useful if you're in a bad place inspecting that stuff in the middle of nowhere for a quest with lots of aggro around...take the initial hit when it breaks your stealth and play dead...very nice.</DIV> <DIV>     It's my understanding that the bard class is going to be the absolute best of all the scouts at debuffing/crippling the targets out of all the scouts, and are the only scouts (again at least at my level) that can buff party members in addition to themselves!  I also understand that higher level bards can even revive party members out of combat (though I've just read this somewhere and can't confirm or give details...believe it was Troubador?).  Again tho, these are questions one of our esteemed Dirges could better answer for you.  I think every class in the game has something to offer to the party that's unique and if used well will always bring value to the team.  Scouts, to me, seem to allow the individual to more customize their playstyle to provide that benefit to the group.  For me that makes scouts, especially my Brigand, very enjoyable and challenging to play.  Read around and ask our Dirge friends about their class to help make your decision (I would be interested to learn more about them myself actually)...once  you decide, play your class like it's your personal job to show everyone how much that class shines and has to offer, and I think that will make it both challenging and enjoyable for YOU no matter what.  I know it has for me <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Best of luck Ringarion...safe and happy journeys</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Jascal 22 Ratonga Brigand - Antonia Bayle</DIV>

<DIV>"wish ruse didn't guarantee i'd be hit for full damage, keep me out of combat for 5 seconds, and prevent me from getting quest/kill credit"</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For the sake of making you happier, to enable you to not lose attack time and so you look better to your group, there is a trick that some of us use and I shall tell you:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>First, place your sit key next to your ruse key. Second, ruse a mob. Third, immediatly following ruse hit sit and swing around the back of the mob while attacking. Rinse and repeat. You can hit sit so fast after hitting </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>ruse that visually you will not even hit the ground. Now while this does take away some of the sex appeal of eating dirt, you willl find it much faster then normal.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Once and awhile you may, may get hit, but regardless you will never lose even a second of attack time ever. Oh and in regards to not getting exp bonus / loot credit, yeah it sucks and it is a known bug, but it is very </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>easy to avoid doing. It is very easy for me to judge weather or not the mob is less then 1100 points away from dieing especially when you are at least a little familiar with your prey.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Oh and on the topic posted above, I have a 35 Brig on MM and the class is just awesome. </DIV> <P><SPAN class=time_text></SPAN> </P> <P><SPAN class=time_text></SPAN> </P><p>Message Edited by Azrom on <span class=date_text>01-06-2005</span> <span class=time_text>03:20 PM</span>

Thank you very much for your answer.I'll catch some informations about dirges and then make a choice. I'm concerned with soloing too because this char will be an alt, I already play an enchanter.Maybe brigand could be a good choice to see someting totaly different (enchanter can deal damage with his dot and by buffing the other member... like a bard do . <<< I miss my 8 char, I like to test lol

<DIV>Um, your  welcome. And as it stands it works. So bug or not, if you aren't doing it you are waisting your 5 seconds every ruse when you could be doing more damage.</DIV>
