I am in a small guild. We raid occasionly (Maybe one or twice every 2 weeks) but nothing high end. I was shoping the broker looking at the best "end game" weapon I could get because It will probably be a very long time until I get my hands on a fabled no drop. I have seen some posts stating that the Ancient velium stuff is the best choice for people like me but I was also noticing another weapon. The Doomrage blade. Now I'm not terribly versed in game mechanics and things but I'm slightly confused. The ancient veilum pieces 68.4 Rating 20 Str 10 Stam 20 Agil, 22-67 Dmg, 1.3 Speed +80 Health +45 Power +1 Defense +2 +1 Piercing +180 Proc at 1.8 PPM. The doomrage blade is +15 Stam +22 Agil +10 Int, 25-74 Dmg 1.6 Speed 61.3 Rating +65 Health +50 Power +2 Slashing And no Proc.To a swashie like me specced 4448 Wis/Str It seems to me like the better choice is the Doomrage. Higher damage range. The speed is slower but from what I have been told by lvl 70 swashies can get 100 percent self haste eaisly so that should be a non issue. The ancient velium I think has slightly better stats (The + str to be exact) but it also can't be adorned where as I can put what ever I like on the doomrage. Last but not least the ancient veluim is selling for around 18 play on my server where you can pick up a doomrage for around 1.5 plat. Also, I can start using the doomrage 4 lvls before the ancient velium. Am I thinking about this correctly or am I missing something? Seems to me that hands down the doomrage is a superior weapon to the ancient velium in just about ever category execpt +str. If I am missing something please correct me. I want to get the best weapon possible. Thanks all

Message Edited by Rollotamasi on 02-04-2007 10:13 AM

I did not know the ancient velium weapons were flagged Ornate. You should be able to adorn them.As far as weapon quality, the ancient velium is better. The doomrage is a nice weapon, but the velium is an upgrade. 5p is reasonable but 18p is too much for a small increase. Pick up the doomrage until you get a good deal on the ancient velium. The problem is because the devs felt the need to make 50 or so fabled 2 handers (plus a bunch of the ledgendary variety in instances), the velium 2 handers go for 1-2pp while the relative shortage of dual wields and one handers mean those velium weapons are more valuable. Also, you can work on the crested mistmoore shield quest and get the empowered ghoulbane. It is better than velium or doomrage and is amazing against undead.

Yeah. Empowered ghoulbane > velium > doomrage.

And yes you can adorn velium. When I was using velium, I had +14piercing on it.

Can someone talk a little bit about why the velium is better then the doomrage. I understand the rating is a bit higher and it has +str but from what I have gathered it seems like damage range tends to be alot more important for a 4448 str/wis spec then the SoE damage rating listing. Im not saying your wrong, I'm just wanting to know WHY the velium is a better weapon. Seems like with haste both weapons should be a 1 delay so I would think the better damage range of the doomrage would be better then the velium.

When doing long fights in a raid you often run OOM and therfore your haste buffs arent up. Sometimes you want to save your haste buffs for emergencies or possible adds also, so a fast high dps sword is good. I would get both if you can and adorn them.

I use vampiric adornments to replace health or mana on several 1hs depending on the situation but shop around as they arnt cheap.

Also +str adds to the damage of velium. Velium also has overall better stats, and a proc. It's just overall better.

Tamesan wrote:

When doing long fights in a raid you often run OOM and therfore your haste buffs arent up. I looked up the quest for ghoulbane on allakhazam and found the quest for the lvl 32 version. I didnt see anything on the lvl 65 version. Im going to guess that you have to get the lvl 32 version first then there is some kind of quest to turn it in to the lvl 65 version?

Here is a link to the best walkthrough I know of for the empowered version.http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=quest&message.id=122592&query.id=226051#M122592It ends up being a quite expensive weapon in terms of enchantment, but if you are working through those levels anyway save those adept books and break them down. You will get the powerders you need in relatively little time.

Since Im not him I can't say for sure what he is talking about but I don't think he is talking about our haste skills as far as CA's go. I think he is talking about passive haste like Flowing black silk sash, procs from Bravado, haste cloak, buffs from other classes, etc.

I just got Empowered Ghoulbane and I don't see how it is more effective than an Ancient Velium Short Sword except when fighting undead? I've put a lifetap adornment on both of them and I parse higher with the AVS.

I REALLY, REALLY need to get myself a fabled 1Hander.
