<DIV>Hey, i got a lvl 32 ranger atm and love it. i like the bows but the solo blows. swashy looks pretty decent to me. but do they solo well? or a ranger better</DIV>
they can, but it is very much dependent ont he player, more so than the class<div></div>

Having a swashy and a ranger, it's my opinion that swashbucklers are perhaps more solo-friendly. This is simply because rangers are so dependent upon staying away from the mob and using ranged attacks. That's difficult to do efficiently when soloing. Swashbucklers are very much an up-close melee class, less dependent upon proximity and distance.<div></div>

Not that I am trying to convince you otherwise, but at at 32, you will not really have the full capabilities that you will eventually come into. For example, if you were named hunting, your three greatest assets would be Sniper shot, thorny trap, and the Raincaller. The first two are ancient spells you get at 58 and 52 respectively. The Raincaller is a heritage bow waiting to be nerfed. The toughest things I have solo'ed would be Ormanthus the Beast (72^^^ named) and Vysra the Ever Hungry ((70^^^ named) who gets a mention due to their annoying range attacks). Even should Sniper be down, the Raincaller procs often enough to either lock up a mob (at least when you deal 2-2.5dps, fights don't last long) or gain you room enough to snare/root otherwise kite. Because I suspect your post is more about general soloing, and not named hunting, I will address the two key spells for them as well, again thorny trap, and storm of arrows/rain of arrows. With selection (an AE) followed by thorny trap->storm of arrows, most grouped mobs are dead or nearly dead, the obvious downside is thorny is a 2 min recast and storm is a 3 min recast. Solo mobs..mostly die before they get to you. and if not lunging joust to root and back peddle to shoot ((or pbshot to stun->backpeddle shot (or stun->jump through->longblade->ranger's blade)). I have no clue what kind of bows exist at 32, but I had no trouble soloing long before I got my Bazkul and Sarnak bows (I used a grizzfazzle). And if you really need to, you can kite.Rangers are definitely not the best solo'ers, but we can do alright, and really shine if we get the Raincaller. Our achilles heel is our need for space, so keep that in mind. And, should you try the swashy route, good luck to you, they are, imo, a good class.Merkades, 70th Ranger.Siege, Najena.<div></div>

<DIV>If you're talking about soloing actual solo mobs, rangers are easier by default, as they can kill them in a couple of attacks, but a skilled swashbuckler (as Lukia said it depends on the player) can also solo with ease.</DIV>

I have a 36 swash and a 37 ranger. Both are alts and equipped in full Feysteel with as much Ruthenium jewelery as I could find. The ranger uses the Stormcaller bow and DW's using 2 Mastercrafted piercing weapons. The swashie uses 2 Legendary piecing weapons. Both use poisons (obviously) and both have all adpet 1's or higher CA's.My primary style of play with these characters is solo and I have found that they are both very, very close when it comes to playing this way. The biggest difference is the ranger's ability to do a lot more damage before the mob ever get's within melee range. Once there, however, the swashbuckler's DPS definately edges out the rangers - especially when using the mezz/stun/backstab tactic.Lately, I've been finding myself playing the swash far more than the ranger (far more than all my toons, actually). I've always been a scout at heart (even though my main's a guardian /boggle) and with the buckler he's very effective in both soloing and groups when I feel like joining them. The ranger is also good in both instances but is slightly limited in groups that are hunting indoors in tight spaces.I hope this helped at least a little to illustrate the slight differences in the classes that I've observed. My guess is - all things being equal - it leaves you pretty much where you started. (Lol)Anyway, imo, it's pretty close to a wash when it comes to the classes. It really does come down to player ability and playstyle.Let's just say that, right at this moment, if I had to pick one class over the other it would be the swashbuckler. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Good hunting.<div></div>
