I've been leveling a swashy (61 so far), thought it would be nice to play a dps/bebuff class when my guild raids and are set for tanks. The problem I am having is I can't decide on a good god for him.

My Shadow Knight was realitivly easy to choose, but from what I've seen on the blessings/miracles, none really seem sutied for a dps scout.

Any suggestions would be appricated.

TY

Marr has the best cloak and the best blessings for DPS. His miracles are primarily defensive.

Brell has a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]ty cloak, the only blessing we can use is for defense, and most of his miracles are high DPS nukes.

I took Brell but am contemplating switching to Marr, atm.

edit - Oh, one huge turnoff for Marr, imo....pet casting time is long as hell, if I'm told correctly. Brell pet is just about instant. I hate being slowed down, but I doubt that'll stop me from repicking my god.

Message Edited by Cocytus on 01-03-2007 05:51 PM

My opinon. There aren't any especially suitable Deities for Swashbucklers.

I would say forget about cloaks (you can go and quest for a Cloak of Flames which will probably be as useful to a Swashy as any deity cloak). You can get by with a mastercrafted cloak until then.

That just leaves blessings and miracles.

Doing a big nuke once/hour when you're already a high DPS class didn't sound that much of a boon to me. I actually thought the 1 minute AE root/stifle/slow (20 seconds on epics) from Tunare was potentially more valuable. You can also get group healing abilities. Certainly not optimal for DPS, but perhaps optimal in terms of utility?

You know, I'm seriously considering trying out Quellious. The tier 1 blessing/miracle I can see myself using. One is increase in combat art duration and decrease in resistability. The other is mez and after mez is up, a nice debuff. It sounds like a real group saver. Tank goes down? No problem - mez the mob, get the tank back up. Even if he's not up or if someone breaks the mez, with the debuff I stand a better chance of tanking it myself.

Then there's the wipe all hate from you ability in the second tier. I'm not sure if this is like a FD or just a de-agro, but if it's a complete wipe of hate then that's awesome. It's the last ability in the INT line but without having to pick up all the crappy stuff

Shield of the tranquil looks sort of interesting-ish. Would be *very* interesting if it's *only* broken when you cast a *spell* but I doubt they'd be that silly, and if they were then they'd nerf it as soon as they found out

The rest don't look that amazing. But I really like the earlier abilities. A lot of bang for buck in terms of usefullness, if you ask me. In the grand scheme of things, 5000 damage (or whatever the other deities give) doesn't make that much difference. If it's used cleverly; say, to quickly end an encounter in an emergancy; it makes a big difference. But the quellious abilities seem to be sooo much better in that "oh [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] we're all gonna die help help!" role.

I'm sure there must be some fatal flaw in my plan, but I didn't spot it yet.

Message Edited by Shackleton1 on 01-04-2007 06:13 AM

Right now, one of my favorite perks of marr is the fact that you can still park the pet, something it seems less and less god pets can, and having an illusionist with quel pet Ive suffered through pet dying at a menacing look from mobs more then enough.

I'm doing every god's quest for AA and cloaks till Bristlebane comes along, but Marr is the best swashy god for now imo.

I'm very happy with Marr. The proc on the cloak gets annoying when you get big and can't see what your fighting (though is useful I suppose with multiple DPS so you can see over their heads).

I like the very first blessing (like a mini-Inspired Daring for 10 minutes) and the 5,000K ward miracle. Being able to ward for 5K allowed us to complete Valdoon's the other day when we somehow wiped and needed to have the tank run accross the fire and pull. It also saved us during one raid I was on when the templars were waiting for recast and the other was resing someone.

You can also cast the ward on yourself if you are kind of in a situation like me (mastercrafted with a sprinkling of legendaries, 90% Adept I and III with the occasional master) and need an edge to solo something.

If I was going straight-up gameplay I'd probably take Marr, but... Marr? Psssh. Come on now

Having read through all of the God info. on the forums, I immediately went Brell.

After having went over the God list again in detail, Marr is another good option. I personally don't give a f.f. about God cloaks, so yeah focusing on Cloak of Flames and just picking what you want to be more focused towards in terms of the blessings/miracles would be the best route. I do a lot of harvesting, but I haven't used the Brell blessing for it yet. I just like the beer.

Ignoring cloaks I chose Brell, the AOE nuke is great and also the single target 8 second stun nuke is pretty bad [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] also.

It's a given that if you take Brell, on the blessing side you take his one buffs.

Brell also has the hard hitting nukes for his miracles - Marr has none.

Marr is more of a "dps over time" god, if you choose to take his DPS skills. He has Valor of Marr, which is a mini-inspiration and adds up nicely over time. Then he has a miracle, Truthbringer I believe, that, IIRC...is a 50% haste and DPS mod, 25% double attack...and a bunch of other things. The problem is though, your hate gain increases by 25%. Aggro is near assured unless you are hate x'fering the MT.

In essence, Brell = huge damage nukes, Marr = DOT, I suppose.

I personally chose Marr for the mini-inspiration, and the save-your-[Removed for Content] invincibility miracle that I would actually get some use out of. It would make more sense, in a roleplay fashion, for my swashbuckler to take the sacrifice miracle to save his lover...but if we were in that situation, sadly I know she would die anyway, so...invincibility it is :p
