Question about Swashbuckler weapon choice

Hey all, forgive my "noobness", but I have a question about weapons for a Swashbuckler. I have noticed that some people happen to dual wield while others prefer using just one weapon for more of that "swashbuckler feeling", so I was wondering if there were any benefits/disadvantages of either setup and, if so, what are they?
