I currenty have a 70 necro and a 50 fury, but now I want a scout class so I can stealth around, track, and own in 1 vs 1 pvp.  Which is better? Swash or Brig?  I have considerred ranger as well but I think a brig or a swash would pwn a ranger.  What do you guys think I should roll?<div></div>

<DIV>Neither is better. This is 100% dependent on player skill.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Some swashbucklers can destroy brigands and some brigands can destroy swashbucklers. There is no better class when they are pitted against eachother.</DIV>

Having just betrayed from swash to brig (battling the flow of people going the other way!) I can give a mid-50's perspective, though not a raiding one. I also don't PvP, so this is from a PvE perspective. Both have group invis and evac and tracking. The swash has quite an even dps output over time, is slightly more button mashy, and is able to deal a lot more damage from the front than a brig (I think swashies only have 3 rear-only attacks to 6 or 7 for brigs), so if you lose rear position on a mob in a dungeon you can still dps well as a swash. Swashie AoEs are better, and they have a 20 sec mes, though I rarely used the latter since poison/dot seems to break it.The brig has more bursty dps, and coupled with two nice stun attacks (4 sec stun, 6 sec fixed-facing root), you can exploit all your rear attacks when soloing. The ruse line also gives a higher damage attack that swashies don't have (they have a lower damage attack that they can use 6 times a minute for similar damage over time). I think the stuns are more useful than the mes, and allow me to solo single targets more easily than a swash, but it is more effort. As a brig I can put a mob down faster, but if he's not down in 15 secs or so then it takes longer. The more even damage of a swashie makes soloing a bit more predictable.Regarding debuffs, brigs have awesome debuffs on longish timers (1 minute), which tend to enable more damage to be done to the mob. Swashies tend to have shorter duration buffs that limit the amount of damage a mob does. Of course, a big magical damage debuff is no use to me as a brig when soloing, but it helps groups with casters. The 'trademark' debuff is Dispatch for brigs, over 3K debuff to all for 13 secs every minute, slightly longer with a class specific AA path I believe.Swashies have better aggro control - they can transfer hate to a tank (25% or so), so can in principle do more dps without drawing aggro. On my server, there's now maybe 2-3 times the number of swashies as brigs, so maybe brig gear is easier to come by, but a lot of drops now are swash/brig and no-trade, so that point may be moot.Brigs are currently a bit miffed at the loss of Amazing Reflexes as a useful AoE immunity skill (it's now a short-duration proc chance, not controllable), but I'm not T7 raid level yet so don't know how much that will hurt me. Swashies get a class AA line that lets them attack from further away, so maybe they can avoid AoE more easily than brigs now. Not sure.I enjoy playing both, and would recommend either. There's plenty of room for both in a group or raid. I prefer Freeport to Qeynos, so that influenced my decision to betray a bit.The snag with PvP is that some skills are neutered somewhat, so Dispatch isn't as good on PvP.Hopefully that gives you some flavour. When I was asking someone said to me "to be dps 1st and debuff 2nd be a swash, to be debuff 1st and dps 2nd, be a brig".<p>Message Edited by Turb0T on <span class=date_text>12-07-2006</span> <span class=time_text>11:56 AM</span>
