I'm a fairly new player, and have just started a Swashy on a PvP server. I've narrowed my tradeskill choices down to Jewelcrafting for upgrading my own spells or Alchemy to make my own poisons. I am also planning on taking tinkering as a secondary.I dont have a lot of experience with this game, so I am just looking for advice and opinions on which tradeskill will serve me better.

I have never played on a PvP server, but I would think that being able to upgrade your own skills may be more important than poisons. There have been several times on my PvE server that combat art upgrades were not available on the broker when I wanted them.

Poisons are usually available (again this is on the PvE server Permafrost).

Making decent jewelry is also a bonus.

Andas

(70 Swashbuckler/70 Jeweler)

definitely go alchemy. your endgame will be hutning for master1 spells, which are not crafted.

Alchemist would be nicest once you are lvl 70 and have all adept III/Master 1Jeweler is by far more useful reaching that position.

On my PvE server, I found that buying posions for T1-T5 was easier than making them myself. That changed in T6. The caustic and breech lines seem to be holding around 1G / poison for normal crafted. Sometimes a bit more. Back in T5, I was paying just a few silver still. If you are in a guild where someone can make free Adept IIIs for you (you provide rare loam and maybe root/fuel cost), then I would say go with Alchemy for your poisons. You'll want a good selection of them later and not pay large sums of cash
