Hi,I'm curious as to how the combat update affected the tanking abilities of swashies, given mit and avoidance got reworked. Is it still viable for groups? Thanks

IMO it is still doable, you have to do some shopping for adornments to help you, the only Fabled I have is my MOA and a pair of shoulders (at work atm and can't remember name) but I frequently tank for a 6 person group. w/ Mental Breach I don't don't run out of power, I went down the Sta line for taunts, use a sword for STR aa attacks etc.I'm only at 47 total AA so I haven't even hit the EOF line, but am lvl 70, I have no problem holding agro for up to 2 groups (no one in my regular group has agro transfer, but a few do have deagro spells)One caviot I work to max out my agi first and STR 2nd so that my avoidance is as high as possible. those who went Str I can't speak for but don't think it would be too hard.

Spec'd for it and with good gear i would say its totally possible.I tanked some of a new instance over the weekend when the tank went LD and im spec'd for dmg. didnt have issues with agro but mobs do hit rather hard lol.. so took more healing the normal gotta make those lazy priest work i say

i'm still tanking fine, lv44 using fabled dw , even though i have a few points in the sta line, i find i perfer the dps, especialyl since the upped the dr of one of my dagger to just below that of a one hander - legendary.

i sword and sheild for when things get messy but all it gives me a is a measly 7% extra avoidance, doesn't show up as mitigation any more.

The Lower zones seem fine for us to tank but zones like castle Mistmore it is highly doubtfull we will be able to tank them without 10 new levels if that

Yes, and I'm glad to see that. I felt that our defensive stance was horrifically gimped...and I'm still thinking it's not good enough, but improvements are a good thing.

With the defensive stance adjustments its still possible to tank some.I tanked Kalladim last week fighting 71^^^'s sometimes multiple encounters. Just need to be careful about when you use engarde and inspiration. Save them for getting yourself out of multiple encounters quickly, and you'll do ok.My problems since the expansion is the huge mitigation nerf, especially in offensive stance. Last night I noticed my warden had more mitigation than I did when I'm offensive. Thats total BS. My swash has more fabled than my warden as well. So the problems been when I do get agro in EoF in group dps config, I die VERY fast. 5-6 hits and death. Previously we could stand up about 3x as long when we got agro. Before the nerf, when I saw a bad pull, I would fire aoe's landing the stun one last to allow healers to catch up on MT. I would usually end up with 2-3 mobs of say 12 in the encounter on me, but it wasn't a problem for me to target them, off tank and kill them quickly. Now with the nerf, I don't get the first one down before I'm dead. I honestly go down ALMOST as fast as a warlock now. I've found it irritating enough that I've quit playing my swash all together and moved on. If I wanted to roll a wizard I would have. But post EoF I went from 3400 self buff offensive mitigation to 2250 self buffed offensive mitigation. I don't know [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] happened, but I'm totally [Removed for Content] now unless I fire a defensive stance.---------------I realize some will say thats not what the class was intended to be, but this is how I've played the class for 2 years, and when they change the playstyle of my primary class as massively as they did on this combat revamp, I'd just assume not play it anymore.Other swashes I know are still very happy with the changes, but they did not gear and play to the off-tank role as I did.

Message Edited by Yimway on 11-21-2006 08:23 AM

*nods* it's still possible to tank, of course. I won't say it isn't because I've been duoing heroics with my 65 inq partner as usual. We can still do all we used to, it's just a bit more power costly these days.

edit - this includes 70 heroics.

Message Edited by Cocytus on 11-21-2006 02:42 PM

Pre EoF we were designed to be tougher and tank better while assassins were designed to do more damage. Post EoF they got a nice boost to avoidance skills and an increase to agi cap while the mit benefit from our stance went down.

Yep, I tanked Crypt of Valdoon (70 Instance in EoF) with only a fury and a conj and we cleared the zone without to many problems, Last named was a whipe but only after he was dead and his adds were hitting us, Ninja looted and took a death and the zone was done. Tanked obelisk last night cause I was grouped with a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] tank, and we only had a fury

in my current gear def stance gives me 2 more mit than it did before the change, defensive stance is very much dependent on gear now, personally I like the change, though I'm still not sure why I had to loose 700 mit off my gear for the changes.IMHO people that take the time and put in the effort to raid should have a slight advantage over the group player.
