I currently have a 37 Monk, and am leveling up a swashbuckler, I find that my monk has a hard time finding groups outside of my regular play group. I play with a small group of friends, mostly 4 but sometimes up 6 of us in a group. Another of us also has a monk but is a lower play time than myself. What I am wondering is, can my Swashy tank well enough for a small group/guild with out hindering our ability to do single group type encounters? I like both classes well enough, but the ability to get groups outside of my regular group is a factor. Thanks in advance for any advice that you can give me.

If you are specd right you can and for low level groups you can... just pick up a buckler.

I duo with a swashie to hunt named mobs (I'm a fury) and we rarely have problems. We're currently level 46 and sofar the hardest fights we've had were the ones in the FBSS heritage quest. (don't remember what level we were when we did it but I think on of them was a white con)

We are in decent gear (mastercrafted + pvp gear) and have mostly master/adept3 spells/combat arts but we're doing this with only 2 people also. for a full group a swashie should be able to tank just fine for any named that are even con or below (perhaps low yellows) and exp mobs up to yellows

make sure you're decently geared and yes go sword-n-board

Epics are another story - this is where you'll need a real tank.

I actually love tanking with my swash Im setup with wis / str so its not the best tank line (but i do have coule). If you can get a Mystic or Defiler in your group you can pretty much tank anything (non raid). Makes for a perfect duo loot group.

A swash would have even less trouble tanking then a brig cuz of all the extra aoe damage, but with sta line I tank with my brig all the time. Not even the worry of finding a fighter....no need.

I often tank when questing, me, dirge, templar and mystic is my friendly questing group, sometimes a warlock and troubie added, I have no probs tanking any mob in the game upto heroics with this group (haven't tried tanking Nizari yet). I am on STR/WIS lines and have no aggro issues, even when the warlock does pull aggro, things die too fast to worry about getting it back.

Best combo for that zone as a swash would be a warden mystic combo you would need top noch sta gear and high mit gear plus sta+str specd then your group would need to consist of

Dirge

Coercer

Mystic

Warden

You

and a dps class that benifits you such as a conji who gives you mit or a necro that gives you hp

Fabled equipped STAMINA/Strength line swashie could give it a shot imho.Should hit 10K+ HP with 2 healers and reach 70% avoidance with dirge in group. Mitigation should be 5000+Agro holding is never a normally problem with a swashtank - as those of you who do tank will know Group make up would be1) Swashtank - very well equipped, stamina line, stats as above.2) Bruiser/Monk - DPS spec'd with avoidance buff on swashie3) Dirge4) Shaman5) Cleric/Druid6) Troub or Chanter - i've done nizara with troub/swashie mez's several times BTW, chanter ISNT essentially. If troub - should sync buffs with dirge.

Swash tanking Nizara. I LOVE it. Why? I have done it. I haven't completed the zone cause it was getting late and people were logging. I normaly don't have a chance to tank Nizara cause I go with a group of buddies, one of which is a guard so he does the tanking. Only mob I haven't done in there is the Epic and the lvl 75. That is cause I haven't tried them yet. Everything else = dead. This is not a fully fabled swash but well equiped.Group was Me (Swash), Templar, Warden, Coercer, Conj, Ranger. I believe I was at 4700 Mit, 62% avoid, and 8600 HP. Those 2 mobs and T7 Raiding are the only things I have yet to try to tank but I see them 'doable' for the most part with a few exceptions. The biggest problem a tanking swash would ahve with T7 raids would be the Mitigation. We would take more damage but It wouldn't be enough to say it cannot be done. Mobs like the corsolander thre is no way in hell I could tank because I do not have the taunting capabiliy for that like lets say a guard. Most of my damage comes from Debuffs, DPS, the 2 taunts I have, plus group effects if i can get them. Tanking Swashbuckler FTW. there are very few of us. Be proud
