Depends who you are fighting really. I could win a duel vs paladin / sk or any preist with my eyes closed, other classes you need some skill to beat.

Depends if you're talking duelling on PvE or fighting on a PvP server.

Duelling:

What they said. Get Inspiration off and you'll put out burst damage that most players have no hope of countering.

If you agree not to use Inspiration (or if you're sub-50) then it will actually require a fair amount of skill and class knowledge, depending on the class you're duelling.

PvP rules:

Stuns don't last half as long and can't be chained, and simply running away for 13 seconds is pretty much going to defeat Inspiration completely. You're going to need a hell of a lot more skill to (a) prevent your target escaping, and (b) actually make the kill, 1v1.

You'll need to know your stun durations (so you can account for effect immunity timers) and will need to time them, your mez and your snares to prevent them escaping.

You do have plenty of tools available to finish the job very quickly against most classes, though. Bruisers will give you plenty of trouble due to their absurd avoidance -- I would highly recommend avoiding them 1v1. Berserkers will make mincemeat out of you given half a chance; guardians and SKs will be awkward due to mitigation and high HPs (but at least they might stay in melee range for Inspiration) and SK lifetaps, just pray the SK's HT isn't up. Healers should probably drop eventually, just don't waste power early on burning through their health and power, save it for when their power is dry so you can sprint after them and DPS them down. Mages will be lucky to finish crapping their pants after they see you before they die, just don't let them see you before you attack and get a stun/root off on you -- if they root you off and your ranged attacks don't interrupt that Ice Comet, you'll be hurting.

Message Edited by overfloater on 06-05-2006 04:33 PM

Use your inspiration or other burst damage in a pvp fight and your enemy will root/stun/mes you and you'll be screwed by the time it breaks.Swashbucklers are built for sustained damage over time, not for quick duels. This puts us as an immediate disadvantage to almost all other classes. I suggest you try to mesmerize your opponent, your your stealth stun, backstabs, cheap shot, then hit inspiration and pray he doesn't stun you as soon as he gets free. If you can get off your flurry attacks while inspiration is up it should be about enough to finish off most opponents.

For one, it has the longest cast time of any of our CAs and, two, it can miss. Cheap Shot is by far your best choice for the initial "off-the-bat" stun, because it's fast-casting, fast-ish refresh and, most importantly... it can't miss. The opening seconds of a duel are critical: you need that initial guaranteed stun to put you in control of the duel so you can remain offensive and effectively time your stuns rather than fighting reactively.

But that's just IMO

Dueling is nothing like PvP, the rule set changes make a huge difference.

Inspiration is nice if your opponent doesn't expect it coming, but you can't expect it to be up for every fight. Just essentially make good use of your debuffs (getting off your offensive skill debuff helps a lot), and out damage the person.. There's a lot to moving around/etc that can really only be learned by fighting in PvP.

If you are talking a PvP server then *NO* class is easy to play. Every class and every individual fight even will require you to think about what is going on and adjust tactics accordingly. You will use a very differnet stragety for taking down a Necro then you would against a Shadow Knight. Even once you get a pretty standard set of tactics based on your gear and choices even then you will have to adjust when you run up against someone smart enough to see what you are doing and counteract with well placed stuns or whatever tools they have based on the class and gear choices they have made.

The good news is you can do as much DPS as you want without pulling aggro. The bad news is that once the healers are all down then next people to get aggro are the Scouts and Mages. At least Mages generally take the aggro before Scouts as they go down quicker. Tanks are saved for last. Once the healer and the evac classes are dead what is a tank gunna do other then just run?

Hehe, last I heard AR was bugged on PvP servers to apply its PvP effect (chance to taunt target, i.e. lock them to targeting you) even in PvE, which was causing some major issues.

So yeah, unless that's been fixed already, brigands definitely won't have a problem pulling PvE aggro faster than other scouts on a PvP server!
