swashys can solo well , getting groups well , u need some repu ...else go pure DPS (ranger assasin)hmmm swashy do average dps , some debuffs, and hate transfer...my opinion is if u want to be popular in groups (go healer) or tank , if u want a scout and popular hmmm i will vote for dirge or troubador ....is just taste , want to be uber dps? (ranger or assasin) , want to be loved for your buffs (dirge troubador) , or want to weak mobs and some dps?if u will group more than solo, go bard, i will fell more usefull in groups (more loved =P) choosing will song put on ect

I’ve only played a Swashy past level 20, so my experience is limited. However, my swashy is level 50 and I solo just fine. Don’t get me wrong, I have died a bunch of times trying to fight things I just should not, however… it’s fun trying!

I’ve saved coins and made sure I got my equipment updated. In fact, I have someone working on jewelry upgrades right now. I find upgrades important, as I would guess it’s the same for most/all classes.

On Mistmore I see requests for DPS all the time, just as much as for healers. I hardly ever see a request for a tank, although it does happen. Swashys are suppose to be second tier DPS. Since this is the only class I have truly played and if we are tier 2 I am impressed.

I’m sure I’ll make a more played alt someday, maybe even soon. However, I’m enjoying my swashy.

Ok, this is another newb question. You say Swashy is Tier 2 DPS. Is there a place where you can look up all of the different classes and see what Tier DPS they fall under? Or if not, what would be considered Tier 1? Just an assassin and wizard?

I currently have a 65 bruiser (would this be Tier 3? Tier 4?), and a 28 swash and 31 brigand. I'd like to get an idea of where they all fall DPS-wise, being of equal levels.

I'm having a very hard time choosing between the swash and brigand, and only know that I'd like my alt to do more dps than my bruiser (who I often feel like not the best tank/not the best DPS... what IS she the best at?!), and be able to get a group without too much trouble (as I get lonely soloing.. haha)

Sorry for the rambling post... I think I've been at work too long - they should send me home.....

Message Edited by Falwenae on 06-08-2006 11:06 AM

They also depend on level and what you're fighting. And who's tanking, and how good their aggro is. The devs also say they regret posting them for this reason. But typically your tier 1 is wizard, assassin, warlock, ranger, and they're all capable of doing top damage minus perhaps the ranger right now. Swash and Brig should be in second tier with conjuror and necro, monks and bruisers are supposed to be third tier.

Swashbucklers can solo fairly well, like all scouts. But like all scouts we have weak endurance, and rely on our extreme damage to kill our targets before we get hit very much. Of the non-bard scouts, Swashbucklers have the lowest burst damage, and this most sustained damage over time. This means we are unable to solo some of the harder heroic encounters that Rangers and Assassins and Brigands can solo. However solo targets be dispatched with ease; if it's just exp you're after you'll be satisfied with the swashbuckler. For those long raid encounters, we do excellent. Usually up there with the conjurers if the swashbuckler is played well. However, brigands definately have swashbucklers beat in the debuff department making them often more desirable. Rangers can of course maintain better ranged damage making them more desirable against targets with nasty aoe. And assassins have the best burst damage, making them more desirable when small weak targets need to be dispatched quickly for some reason. In groups, it's sad to say but usually all other scouts will be more desirable than swashbucklers. We don't have the group buffs that our bard brothers get, nor the burst dps of the predators.

Inspiration is the best burst DPS there is really over a 13 second period, only Decapitate could equal it.

You will solo well, and whilst its true you wont dps as much as a predator, the "good" players out there know that one swashy is worth way way more than any predator in a group if its played even half well And this knowledge is slowly seeping thru to the general community.

I got my swashy up to 52 and i haven't had this much fun in a long time. Even tho swashies don't have the burst dmg or group buffs, we do have some decent debuffs and do excellent dmg. Poisons really make a difference when playing any scout class. When i was lvl 48, I was in a group and someone was running a parser, i came in first a lot of the times over an assassin (4 and conjuror (47). They may not have been paying attention, but i didn't mind, made me look good lol. Soloing, like a lot of others have stated is possible, but it can be trying sometimes. But thats how it is with most scouts.

I will say that its a little harder for swashies to find a group, but i have built up a pretty good reputation as one and look forward to taking him on raids. As far as it being right for you? well no one but you can answer that question. Try out all the scouts, you should be able to get a pretty good feel for the different classes on the n00b island.

Believe me, bards don't get groups easy unless people know ya for what you can do ....
