I first made a monk, but stopped playing him because I saw a monk everywhere I went. I liked the dual wield idea, so I made a swashy.

The question should be “Why do you still play your swashy?”

Upgrading combat arts is not too difficult or expensive

Escape is great for getting away and teleporting in the zone

Tracking is outstanding for many quests

I don’t see a bunch of swashies walking the lands

And we solo just fine (at least I think we do) - I can take on a small group of yellows and solo some single orange

I think swashbucklers are underrated, at least according to the threads I’ve read on the EQ2 forums. When people talk about picking a class you don’t see too many suggestions to convert to a swashbuckler. I’m guessing crusaders, brawlers and conjurers must be kick [Removed for Content] at level 40+ because I see tons of them and recommendations to become them. I’ve tried playing a monk a few times, and I’m sure they are great, but upgrading combat arts is difficult/expensive and monks are so common.

No class is perfect, but I am having fun, which I guess is the best answer.

I just wanted to be a good, damage dealing, melee class. Rangers and bards sounded too fruity so a swashbuckler am I. Of course, if I had known rangers would turn out to be so overpowered compared to other scout classes, I would have gone with one of those stick-tossing tree-huggers.

Hmm.. I started as a ratonga illusionist.. loved the character but back then no one understood what I could bring to the group, this was back when majority of people didnt even use vendor drinks so one would have thought breeze would appeal, but nope, and soloing illusionists back then was a pain. Whilst I played her I started a dark elf to have a pocket provisioner and almost accidently made her into cleric -> templar. Id have 2-3 /t's asking me to join their group as soon as I finished loading log in, kinda a blast :p Anyways, I played her along with my fianceé who has less playtime then me, so to avoid outleveling him I made yet another alt... and settled on rogue this time.. Swashies by then had very few things to offer, tanks with mush in their head would click off my hate transfer and 9/10 times someone would break group invis for shinies even when told to not click anything, but it was too late.. I was in love. Frontal, ranged, behind.. so much to do.. my tiny little girl jumping knee high on giants when backstabbing... totally adorable.

We were meant to be jack of all trades, and the only time I ever saw us being wanted was for nagafen runs, but swashie spirit had taken me over and I had long since outleveled my templar. Then comes combat revamp and we become actually usefull! All of a sudden mini-swashies start popping out of the bushes on the lower tiers. Meanwhile Im out in the desert enjoying myself fully. Then comes AA's making one-handed fighting styles viable and my little girl is finally closing in on being the PiRat I always dreamed her to be. Now, if they'd only made female/male armour a bit varied and took some inspiration from Monkey Island etc my little ratonga will be in heaven *grins* Id love to be a vermin version of Elaine

That is why I play a swashie.. A class that had so many possibilities but never reached them and over time we have come further and further, developed one might say. We might not be the most popular class or the most flaunted, but we are the most styleish one and we get 'stylier' as time goes, who can say where we might be in a year or two? Im sure staying to find out and Ill stick by no matter what cause in the end, I cant see any class being more rewarding in the long run for me.

I used to play an assassin till LU13 came and made soloing no fun. (too many positional, stealth, and positional-stealth moves)So I decided to try out a swashbuckler because they have way less positional and stealth moves so soloing isn't such a pain in the lower lower back.Once I did, I was hooked. This class is theeee most fun class I have tried on EQ2. I have yet to play a serious alt because I find my main character way too much to my liking.Even if they nerf this class back to the stone age I would still play it. The combination of style, utility and damage is... is... too much fun.

i started one cuz i want that hat... with the big feather.. it's hawt! my swashy is only lvl 12 but i still find it amusing that i can sneak up behind a mob, lay 6 debuffs and 2 stuns and kil it before it has a chance to turn around and swing back. im just waiting for my imbued weapons now for the real fun

My friend's guild I was in, needed dps and mezzor, so I picked swashy... If I knew there were going to 20 zillion swashies after KoS, I would have made a brigand. :

My answer's a little odd. This is my first online game ever. I was however a big tabletop D&D player, at the time I switched to EQ2 (Jan of 05 if you care) I was playing a Dwarven Rogue. I decided that since I was really enjoying him at the table I'd role him on-line and since Dwarf's are good I had to become a swash ( if I could have stayed a rogue at lvl 20 I would have been that)I'm a 1 toon person so Erek is the only toon I've ever gotten past lvl 18 (did make a few alts to help friends on newb isle.)

Started playing on Nagafen (PvP) server and refused to play evil because of all the emo kids. Made ranger, hated play style. Made Swashbuckler, hooked.PS: I love my swashbuckler.

Style and well-rounded mostly. Puts out debuffs, puts out DPS, can tank, can transfer aggro. Not the best at any of the above but close enough to the top at all of them to make them worthwhile in any group or raid.

Why? Simple. Errol Flynn, that's why.

I had planned to start as a Wood Elf Ranger, however a few days before EQ2 launched I read the details of the Swashbuckler and the image of Errol Flynn in movies like 'Captain Blood' popped into my head. Just can't beat the classics.

I've now tried all the other classes with alts (although only at the lower levels), and haven't enjoyed any as much as my Swashbuckler. Some are better solo, some are better in groups, none are as much for for me though.

Swashies are very involving to play. You have to think about your buffs and debuffs. You have to time your stuns etc and move around to get off your positional attacks (or you do solo anyway). And to top it all off, we do it with such style :smileyhappy:

Message Edited by Siadern on 05-27-2006 04:47 PM

I always liked the style of playing a rogue character. And since I was going to be playing a halfling, the description of the class just seemed to fit. Started playing Launch day and have been having a ball ever since. I like that we can be many things depending on the group/raid/or if soloing. I like the challenge of playing a character where I have to think about what I am doing. That is not to say that other classes do not require thinking as well..just that the "thought process" of a swashy fits me best.

Plus..swashys look so good!

Style and cheap masters.

I played a paladin as my main from launch until Froglock's were added and I started a Froglock scout for fun (poison frog) and went swashbuckler because I liked the up close playstyle and wanted to be different than all of the rangers running around. Eventually my swashbuckler became my main because it was more fun to play than a paladin, easier to get pickup groups, and in demand for raids.

I'm from EQOA (everquest online adventures, PS2 game). My main was a bard there, and it was in high demand. When i looked into this game, bards werent the same really. So i had to choose something else.

I knew i didnt want to be evil, and i didnt want a ranger. Too popular. So i went for Swashbuckler.

From what i could see, swashys were all terrain types. They could dmg and take hits pretty well. They had their share of debuffs, not as high as a Brigands, but good none-theless. Plus, being a kerra Pirate just looks cool.

I really like Swashbuckler. Ever class has their own advantages over others, and i like it as is. In raids im close to the top on parsers, even tho i DIDNT go Wis line. Thats right, DIDNT. (went int str, and some agi for Walk the Plank). Only reason i didnt go wis was i like dual wielding for more procs and stats. Also the Lunge Reversal % got nerfed.

i had a wiz when we all played at launch. we were all on qeynos side. a good friend of mine didn't know about the citites and made a dark elf. she was set on dark elf so i made one too , to help her with the betrayal quest. she went paladin i wen swashie. i never tried a rogue class b4, i was always a caster. and man i loved it. it became my main until i left for wow. i got her up to 33, now im back and going to start it up again.
