Seems almost impossible as a Swash. Yeah, I have a few interrupts, but their heals take such a small amount of power and some of them have HoT's. Anyone have any tips? I just waste all my power in the beginning...and if I don't, I die anyways.

What level are you? I basically never lose to any healer except wardens who can get lucky with Sandstorm knockbacks. Inspired Daring / Inspiration + stuns mops them up.

I'm 40. Might have something to do with it.

I don't play a swashbuckler in PvP but I do play a defiler. So my tip would be...

lolercopter wrote:
I just waste all my power in the beginning...and if I don't, I die anyways.

Don't do this ^^^

Reason being that priests can heal themselves ad infinitum without engaging combat, meaning they'll never run out of mana. They'll just wait until you're out of power and then retaliate. Autoattack them at first until they engage. If they don't engage... good luck, grab a coffee, and settle in for a long fight.

The key to fighting healers is spike damage. It's not about how much damage you put out, it's really about how fast you do it. Don't wear them down, tear them down. You can't keep them perma-stunned, so you need to outpace their heal recasts. Assassins, rangers, warlock, wizards already have this covered. Even brigands to an extent, at least moreso than swashbucklers. A swashbuckler doesn't have such high damage single CAs, so you'll need to be a little creative.

My advice would be to mez a healer as soon as you can. This will let you control the terms of the battle, and give you enough time to get in position for a backstab. Don't let mez run for longer than half the mez recast time (remember immunity = duration they were last mezzed for ... though I'm not sure what the max duration is in PvP anyway).

If for some stupid reason they didn't cast any heals before you mezzed them, do let mez run as long as is safely possible within that half-the-recast time. HoTs, reactives and wards last a maximum of 30secs, so this gives any residual effects chance to fade.

If they did cast a heal right before you mezzed them (or if you're not sure), it's probably best to get on with things as fast as possible - remember you really want to outpace their heals, so you don't want to give their recast timers a chance to recharge.

Despite the temptation, don't break mez with a stun as you probably would in PvE. The immunity timer means you need to reserve stuns to interrupt and prevent later heals. Instead, break mez with your backstab followed by rear/flanking attacks -- all as fast as possible before they turn.

Then stun (because this is when they'll try to heal your backstab damage or ward/HoT/reactive against your next volley). The Swathe KD/stun is possibly too long a cast time, so probably use Cheap Shot. But if you have Boot Dagger, chain BD + Ambush to get a near insta-stun -- the reason is that the stun on the Ambush line is shorter than Cheap Shot, meaning the immunity is also shorter... at this point, you're more interested in the casting interrupt than the actual continued stun effect. This means that in <4 secs you can stun them again with Cheap Shot.

While they're stunned, unleash the rest of your CAs. If they're still alive, you'll have to hope your interrupt proc fires at the right times. Otherwise just rinse and repeat as you can. If you're able to pull off the "BD+Ambush followed a few seconds later by CS" trick, I'd be surprised if they haven't lost most of their health already. You will have them in a panic and trying frantically to complete heal casts. Do remember to use Swathe if they're still alive. While immunity prevents stun locking, stuns and KDs are still some of the most deadly PvP skills, you just need to get the timing down.

Anyway... like I said, I can't say this works from experience but, from a healer's perspective and knowing what a swashbuckler can do, this is what would screw me up! Fortunately I've only ever fought one swashy 1v1, and she was obviously kinda new to the class, trying to run in circles to get backstabs, failing to use her stuns to interrupt anything or get rear attacks -- she was orange to me and I got her to 5% health with my two weak DoTs and abysmal 3 dmg "nuke" before I fizzled a ward and she killed me. Had she ordered her CAs a little better she could've killed me in no time.

I have only 4 heals -- a small heal, major heal, self ward and a group ward (with obscene cast time). I believe most other classes are similarly limited in their heal selection. If most of those recast timers are down and I'm losing health rapidly, I'm dead -- you just need to outpace those timers. The only times my defiler has died while solo have been when the damage comes in so fast that I can't keep up, not because I'm out of power.

Message Edited by overfloater on 04-21-2006 03:17 PM

PS - you're not on Venekor are you? I have a nasty feeling I just shafted myself...

and PPS - once you hit 50 and get ID, no healer should ever be able to get beat you solo. No one priest can keep up with our CA damage plus ID procs.

My german isn't THAT good. All I saw was a few words I understood there sauber means "clean", and I'm not quite sure why that would be in any sentence about Swashbucklers.

So, it was not related to you as a swashbuckler, but to your use of this [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] [Removed for Content] ideologie and terminology you used with the [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] words "mein fuehrer". IF your German is not that good, so you did not know, what this means.. well. But.. how can someone use this and NOT know???

However, IF you knew it I even will give you a translation of my words, and no, "sauber" aligned with "ticken" has nothing to do with to be clean, but with a person in strong needs of maturity, common sense and education of history.

Politely translated.

"Mein Fuhrer" means my master. If you want to directly corrolate that with Hitler then that's your choice.

Come, come.. and that was why you chose the [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] words mein [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] Fuehrer.. in German. Not Leader, what would be the correct translation, leader, not master, btw.

Ahem..

Why not say master, if you meant this? Why use Fuehrer- at the cost of making the connection to its insane [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] bearer trivial? How can someone do this? I cannot get it.

Hmm.. I would like to strongly recommend to not use this infamous terminology if you don't want to be connected with this [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] crazy sadistic brute Hitler.
