<DIV>What's a better weapon for DW?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Currently I'm level 37, and using two pristine feysteel leafblades.  They give nice str boosts (haven't had time to get some raid-quality weapons, nor the money to buy them), and such, but I'm worried about their speed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>While they do have nice damage, I'm wondering if perhaps there is a better choice for damage.  Should I go with daggers?  DW rapiers?</DIV>

Actually, you want the slowest weapons you can find, preferably.Main thing to be worried about is (a) you want to keep both piercing and slashing up (though carrying around both isn't really necessary until you start raiding) and (b) you want a high damage rating. Everything else is just icing on the cake.</div>

<DIV>Should I use the slower because they have better damage?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I see some daggers with 7-22 dmg, but a 22.3 rating (something like 1.6 speed), but my leafblades have 10-29 dmg, an 18.2 rating, but only 2.1 speed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm assuming that since auto-attack doesn't really come into play (it hasn't yet), that the slower rated weapons (and thus lower rated) that have better damage end up being better for me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So...I'm fine with what I've got...</DIV>

Still, by far, the most damaging of my attacks. Probably of yours too, though I admit the game does change as you level. If you do the calculation, one of your leafblades does (10 + 29)/2 = 19.5 average damage, which comes out to 19.5/2.1 = 9.285 DPS.The daggers do about 9.063 DPS by the same calculation. Rating is just a measure of DPS, so to have a higher rating it must either be quicker than you thought or have a proc on it that does additional damage.I'm not sure what "slower rated weapons (and thus lower rated) that have better damage end up being better for me" means, as all that matters is a weapon's DPS as far as how much damage your autoattack does (not 100% true, but good enough for us for now). A slower weapon is not necessarily lower rated. If you look at the feysteel weapons for your tier, they should all have the same damage rating even with different speeds.</div>

<P>Ok, so I understand better:</P> <P>Once I calculate average damage, I divide by the speed to get the DPS.</P> <P>So how do I calculate just how much the weapons would do in battle?  Multiply the result by the damage rating?</P>

<P>Something else you need to consider if dual-wielding is this:  Its a good idea to mix a slashing with a piercing, don't always use the same type ie- two slashers or two piercers.  If you use one of each, it will keep your slashing and piercing skill both up and current to your skill level.</P> <P>You can certainly use two of the same here and there for special considerations, such as having two better weaps of the same type, resists, etc, but as an overall process its a good idea to keep em mixed so that you are able to make the best use of any piercing or slashing DW you may acquire at any given time.  As far as the appearance, IMO it does look better to have two of the same, but for functionality, 1 slash/ 1 pierce FTW...</P> <P> </P>

Damage rating is just Sony calculating DPS for you. Theoretically a weapon with 30 damage rating should do more DPS than a weapon with 28 damage rating. The calculation that I did out was just me figuring out DPS by myself. With procs it gets a little more complicated, but yeah, to figure out how much DPS a weapon does, it's (max damage + min damage)/(2*weapon speed). If you have dual wield you add the DPS of each weapon together.</div>

<P>Might wish to get the Polished Granite Tomahawk, from the Heritage Quest, 'An Axe From the Past'. You'll need to speak Kromdul (giant), and speak with Obsid Boulderbloom in Thundering Steppes (a big giant NPC north of the Rumbler Caves).</P> <P>I'm 37, using it, and it has a great proc and nice damage rating, too. I duel wield it with a feysteel kris.</P>
