View Full Version : Hotkey question

I’m a level 31 or 32 adventurer (Swashbuckler) and I am wondering if there are any combat skills people don’t find useful. I have my hotkeys set, but I might be reviewing the order.

Although I’m level 30+ I still feel I’m not making the best of my mouseketeer and I need to adjust as the critters are getting rougher. I only have adept 1 skills for those not selected via levels and my armor is “ok”, but I should be getting new weapons via a friend of mine working his trade skill crafting.

Anyways, I die more than I would like and I feel is acceptable.

That said, I’m still happy and determined!

Well, I personally find that I perform best when I time all my positionals correctly. This allows me to frequently match DPS with rangers several levels above me. Also, when jumped in a contested zone, I need to be able to hit the proper sequences as fast as possible to have the best chance for survival.I have a hard time reaching keys 7 through = without taking my hand off of WASD, so I remapped those keys to R T F G C V for all three of my bars. I have found pretty much all of our abilities are useful, if only to trigger HOs. I keep my main damage combat arts in my primary hotbar, various debuffs and stealth-related skills in the secondary hotbar (shift), while the tertiary bar (ctrl) holds things more seldomly used, such as buffs, yell or gate. This way, I can reach all my abilities without ever removing my hand from the movement keys. I use profit UI to help me maintain a much cleaner and tidier interface, so clutter is not a problem.

P.S. Opacity settings are your friend.

one thing I've done and seems to greatly help my game is picked up a nostromo's game pad by belkin. this is a deice w/ 10 keys and a console type directional pad. you map your movements to the Dpad and you have the buttons for hotkeys... all at your fingertips. As for the original question, I use all of my hotkeys at one point or another, but least frequently is my mez line followed by taunts since i'm in a group usually w/ a tank who doesn't like mezzes caus they limit his AOE's

Skills I don't use? Not many. Hail of Steel is probably the rarest just because the DPS isn't too great and there's not many mobs I'm out of melee range on for that long. Our snare/magic and divine debuff I don't pull out that often except on raids and in really mage heavy groups. Mezz I just honestly don't have much occasion to use, but I know some people use it a ton in soloing and it can be handy in a pinch. The only other skill I use infrequently is taunt, but it's a life-save a lot of times. I've taunted aggro wiping raid mobs or adds off priests before and bought the tank time to steal it back. Plus the dispell can be handy.

I use just about every skill every time I log in and go kill stuff, not doing so IMHO limits the utility aspect of the class.
