View Full Version : Comparing Swashbuckler to Brigand on a PvP server.
<DIV>Im trying to find some way to convince myself to play as a Swashbuckler( 1. being goodies are outnumbered and 2. I really like the whole look and feel of a swashbuckler/fencer) on the PvP server over a brigand and im totally new to the class... I know swashbucklers are more suited to attacking groups of enemys then a brigand is .. would this make a swashy weaker on a pvp server? The major differences I see between the classes are the Ruse lines that brigands get and the mez line that swashys get.. how useful is the mez? Is there anything else I may be missing that swashys get and brigands dont and vice versa? I know this may look stupid asking about pvp and all since it doesnt seem that important to alot of people but it is to me soo... any information would be great.</DIV>

Cant really speak personally to what swashies get that brigands don't, but brigands definately have the edge in stunning ability. A decent brigand can keep an opponent stunned for nearly 30 seconds nonstop, which makes them nigh-unbeatable duelists. I think brigands will have the edge in pvp, but I have only seen swashies played; have never experimented with one of my own, so feel free to correct.<div></div>

If you want to be better at PvP, play a Brigand, plain and simple. If you want to be an arrogant rogue with leet skills (and you HAVE the leet skills to back up your already leet arsenal of leetness), try a Swashbuckler. If you don't like it by level 8, you should kill yourself.<div></div>

First off, our true (raw) power comes out @ lvl 50 Inspired daring. You can kill just about anyone if you know how to combo this right. Brigands are nothing compared to swashy DPS passed 50 <div></div>

<DIV>well brig just destroys swash in pvp 50+ and dps single target no doubt</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>dont forget that brugs 55 debuff makes every CA do 50% more dmg , which is alot.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>simple</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Tikku n Tikku , 2 lvl 60 brigs on Darathar / Splitpaw</DIV>
<DIV>Well let me ask this.. can a swashy open up with a stealth attack then mez the target ?</DIV>

A brigand will put the mack on you 9/10 times 1v1. That said, in Group v Group, you can return the favor ten fold by mez'ing a healer/tank and crushing someone else outright. Even 2v2 you will do a lot better. Pretty much, he's going to restrain you, drop two high damage ca's, and then double up. Even with about 5.5k hp you're almost if not always dead when the stun breaks. The *problem* with a swashbuckler in most pvp situations is that the best part of our dps comes from landing a couple debuffs and scoring some hot auto-attack damage with things like Inspiration and Finesse. In pvp, people don't stand still for you to auto and all of our good openers (Brazening and Charging in with the Swathe timer loading) do knockBACK as well as knockDOWN so you waste the first 1.5s of the duration getting back into position. It wouldn't be a big deal if the players didn't ghost a little when you stun/kd them and tell you out of range despite standing on top of them. Scored a Right hand of the priestess and it is pretty sick with some haste on the PvP server. People can't really cast through double attacks with it. Other thing about a swash on pvp is that the Bravado line is STILL bugged and you can't use it in PvE. The pvp proc of forced target change to you for 3s happens in PvE (the mob will turn and stick to you for 3s no matter what the hate situation is, I'm sure you can imagine what that would be like on raid mobs) with no fix in sight. I have killed brigands, but it requires you getting the drop, having inspiriation/finesse/en garde precast and charging swathe as you move in. Knockdown -> Stun -> Guile -> Lung Puncture -> Elude (clears his target) -> Slip (combat stealth ability with hate reducer, another target clear) -> Brazen -> Finish It (he should be almost dead, if he isn't, throw the mez here instead of whirling and plunder, then back off and crack him with Ghostly Bow of Belize or some fancy ranged work). You can do it, but it takes a lot more work than his Restrain -> Dispatch+whatever+double up=win. Sintor - 70 Swashbuckler - Nagafen - <Havoc> <div></div>

I was getting sick of getting owned by rat brigands on Nagafen so I decided to try one out for myself. They are, without doubt, one of the best if not the best class out there for pvp. I tried out a Brigand up to level 8 and then did the same with a Swash. The brigands just stuns the hell out of everything it comes into contact with, I can finish encounters with multiple mobs without losing almost any HP. The swash, while good, isnt as strong and comes out with lower hp. I'm personally not interested in classes that have the "Wait until level 50 and we own". Whatever, most of the game play is pre level 50 and that's where I want to have fun.Still hate rat brigands though. I prefer qeynos, but I'm not happy with the Swash's performance so far when compared.<div></div>

<DIV>As a note, Brigand can't outright stun lock people in PvP due to the stun immunity timers and the shortened stun timers. But 1v1, yeah, duh, Brigand wins. It's a 1v1 Class. Two vs Two though the Swashbuckler could win simply due to a well executed mez.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It will also heavily depend on timers.. Jump a Brigand that just used most of his one minute timers, and he drops dead like a defense less fly.</DIV>
