I duo with my wife and we are tying to find a good duo because we don't have lots of moments where we can play for more then 30 mins straight. We had a 50 Ranger/Fury combo before we quit about 3 months ago. The problem with this combo is the Ranger can't use his CA's once engaged with the mobs and the blue Named's took him out pretty fast.

So I started playing my old level 32 zerker with her Fury mentoring me. We do pretty well. Most blue named we dont have a problem with unless they nuke heavy. White nameds we usally get creamed on unless we are real lucky. Just seems to take a while on the fights since the DPS isn't all that great.

I really like DPS classes, so now we are thinking about doing a Swashbuckler/Mystic since I read that they are a good combo. I will mainly be a tank swashy going down the STA line using the buckler most of the time. I was trying to get anyones input who has tried this combo. Will we prolly do beter then the zerker/fury combo as far as named MOBs/grouped heroics go?

Thanks for any info/advice. Dont feel like leveling us up to lvl 35 just to see the zerker/fury combo was better.

Message Edited by Greyson102 on 04-11-2006 09:57 AM

Message Edited by Greyson102 on 04-11-2006 10:02 AM

I'm a Sawshie, I have a friend who's a Fury and we find that we can take just about any mob in the game working together. We've worked through HQs, hammered named mobs, you name it. There may be a better duo combination, but not many of them.

If you're mostly going to be tanking with your wife healing, then I would suggest Zerker. The DPS is great (nearly even), but they don't have stealth. /shrug

I recently respected away from the STA line, it is a nice line, but since I do most of my play either grouping or raiding, I felt it was a waste. However with the STA line, I was doing very very well as a stand in tank in groups, for those at higher level, I tanked the Vault in Barren Sky at level 69 at 4-4-4-8 STA line. The boss mob was yellow and he was the only one in the zone I lost aggro on.

ONe tactic I use when duoed with a healer is to sometimes let the healer take aggro, then use your back attacks on the mob.

Message Edited by Licit on 04-12-2006 08:31 AM

I would have thought that zerker + Fury would be a pretty good combo, both are at the lead in DPS for their archetypes. However, any Fighter class in defensive stance will suffer in DPS.

Swashy + Mystic should be viable if you take the Sta line as you say (Round shield please!). The reason being, swashies should get higher avoidance than a zerker, and the Mystic wards would help smooth out the damage, given that you'll probably still have a bit less mitigation than a plate class. Mystics are probably the best choice to pair with an avoidance tank. You'll also find swashies much better as tanks than Rangers, but you do lose your positional (rear/flanking) attacks while tanking.

The other combo would be Monk + Mystic, for similar reasons.

Don't try Templar with an avoidance tank, it works against their reactive healing. Avoidance tanks also get less value from damage shields.

In that you can always use your anytime Xlow ability and then open up on the mob with all your back attacks followed by your single Target Taunt if you are facing against only a Single Mob. With the amount of DPS that you can push out in a short amount of time getting Aggro back shouldnt be any problem at all.

I am really liking the possiblities of this combo. On my server most groups are wanting DPS, not another tank so I can fill that roll when my wife cant play. Having track and evac are nice bonuses and the thing I missed most from my ranger.

Thanks for the advice guys.

But evading so you can backstab doesn't really qualify as tanking imho. :smileytongue:

Anyway tanks seem to be one of the most popular archetype choices, it's usually not hard to find one. Rogues are much less common, with great DPS and utility. Enjoy!
