<div>I just hit 25th swashy level a few days ago, and I got Escape, of course. Since the removal of spirit shards, I'm wondering how the Swashy community uses Escape:</div><div> </div><div> - is it just a shortcut travel power for you now?</div><div> - do you still have a reason to use this when the chips are down?</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>I can't really think, in my mind, what would be a good reason to use Escape in the middle of a bad combat. It won't save you from having to go back down deep in a dungeon camp, or prevent shard recoveries - if the group wipes, just revive and trudge back down. Escape would seem to only save a very small amount of debt, and I really can't think of anyone who might do it simply to avoid repair costs... There may be good reasons, but if they are there, they are eluding me. Help? :smileysurprised:</div>

<div></div>I use it a lot more often as a means of transport than anything else. I do on occasion use it when I am about to die but with the reduced 'cost' of death I do not use it that much. I love having the ability though.

<div>Transportation is the main use I have for it, very rare that I get into trouble in a group, mezz work wonders for saving the day <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div><div> </div><div>Also, scout evac is the only one that doesn't interrupt while moving, comes in hand when you miss a jump in KoS :smileywink:</div>

It's not as much of a problem earlier on, but later in the game there are a ton of dungeons where I'd rather die on the slim chance that my group will survive. Places where I will never ever evac: Permafrost, Sanctum of the Scaleborn, Palace of the Awakened, Solusek's Eye. I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple others. But when it takes you twenty minutes to get down and into position past see invis, I'd rather bank on a narrow victory, which really does happen more often than I usually think.<div></div>

Why die if you dont need to? If either way you need to make the trip back, may as well save the debt. KoS is definately full of fun uses for the ability. When I get into trouble soloing I can just take a dramatic leap off the nearest isle edge and evac as I fall. lots of fun.Of course travel shortcuts will be the majority of use for it, but cant argue with a little versatility.

There have been a ton of adds where I couldn't tell which way it was going right up until the end, and this is waaay deep inside dungeons.  Especially with AAs and people pulling out random mezzes and fears and FDs and what-have-you, I prefer to see how it plays out. Hell, there's been times when after five of us died we discovered the wizard had taken the liberty of going AFK in the corner and hadn't drawn aggro. So if I'd have evaced we'd be at the door with a long walk ahead of us, whereas this way we were still at our camping spot with a bit of rust on our armor and two encounters' worth of debt. When I'm soloing or duoing I use evac constantly because it's pretty clear which way a battle's going to go.</span></div>

<div></div><div></div><p>I haven't used evac much in groups since the removal of shards, especially with the increased number of instances in recent months: never sure which instances will evac us outside, so I'd rather fight to the last in the hope that someone will live or FD.</p><p>If it's an easy-to-navigate outdoor zone (like, say, Rivervale or later in many of the Barren Sky hunting spots) then evac is sometimes worth it to avoid the unecessary xp debt, especially if you're not in a perfect grind group. Evaccing yourself back past the 400 dungeon mobs you just cleared on the offchance that <em>may</em> wipe is a bad thing, though.</p><p>I use it a lot for travelling and for avoiding unnecessary deaths when I'm soloing or questing. Or being stupid, by falling off floating islands... Being as I'm not much of an xp grinder, debt isn't quite so trivial to work off. It's still not difficult but it's annoying when every drop of xp counts. Plus I detest soloing so, when I'm forced to do it, I'll evac rather than die to add insult to injury!</p><p>I'm really looking forward to the AA FD. I'm hoping it may come in handy sometimes as a group saver for instances and long dungeons in place of evac. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>Message Edited by overfloater on <span class="date_text">03-24-2006</span><span class="time_text">08:03 AM</span></p>

<div></div>Very interesting replies, thank you folks!  I had no idea Escape was castable on move <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<div></div><p>100% of our CAs are castable on the move. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>That even includes our mez, which is otherwise treated as a spell (it has a tiny recast time if it's resisted, unlike true CAs which get their full recast timer even if they miss).</p><p>From what I've heard, caster evac is not castable on the move ... though it can apparently be cast while you're dropping directly downward (vertical movement only), so it should be possible to use their evacs in a similar fashion in KoS. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

<div></div><p>Avoiding damage to gear is a valid use for evac, if your MT is just hanging in on the mobs you are pulling you dont want him at 80% mitigation etc.</p><p>Especially if there is no locall mender.</p>
