Hey,

I'm a newb to EQ2...another WoW refugee who is a casual and often solo player who got bored end game due to all raiding, all the time. I was a druid on WoW since it was a Jack of All Trades type who could stealth (which I love as a soloer), heal, tank, but had poor DPS. I haven't seen a comparable class in EQ2 who was so versatile and survivable. I picked a Swashie so far hoping he would be good solo with stealth, good DPS, escapability, and good debufffs. I have read COUNTLESS threads on pick a Conjuror/Necro/possibly Ranger for solo, but I like classes that are more gear dependant and aren't limited to cloth and staves, unable to use most of what you find. I also like to be part of the fray and not just a guy in a dress sitting back and nuking while my little pet does all the work. I like the style of the Swashie so far.

Sooo, will a Swashie be a good as I lvl up to be able to solo out there in the real world, and will this be viable all the way to end game. Will Swashies also have trouble joining into groups for the later group content and raids.

Thanks!

Hi Cjwilke, welcome to EQ2!I have a Warden and a Swashbuckler and while they are both fun the Warden is a way better soloer. If you carry around Chameleon totems it has just about everything you are looking for, Chameleon Totems give you 15 minutes of invis. I have soloed the Warden to level 49 easily. The Swash is only 29 so maybe things get better for them solo wise later on.A Warden is a druid type healer who has decent heals and decent damage spells. They also get an evac spell and a few other utility spells - breathe underwater, speed buff, damage shield and other buffs. On the other hand then theer is something very fun about the Swashy, leaping around and destroying opponents in seconds

Speaking as a level 60 swashbuckler I can tell you that:

1> Swashies can solo easily in the game at all levels. If you are well equipped you can solo easily.

2> I have never had a problem getting in a group, ever. Yes there are other classes that have more dps but we have more hate control. It is way way easier for us to control our hate and thus reach our dps potential than other classes.

3> Raids - because of our hate control you will very frequently see swashbucklers at the top of DPS lists on raids. In my guild I'm regularly in the top 3 and I constantly see players below me ganking aggro (who are doing way less dps). They are also wanted for their offensive debuffs - we are one of a very small number of classes that has offensive debuffs. I have, on raids, been assigned specific for debuffing when other DPS are taking down other targets.

A well played swashbuckler is one of the more interesting classes in the game and constantly moving.

And to the guy that said that Wardens can solo better than Swashies - pass around what you are smoking cause there won't be very many agreeing with you there.

Message Edited by Krakenappa on 02-20-200610:19 AM

At first I started of with my Warden and he indeed had little problem in soloing department. But at the higher lvls it just takes to long to kill mobs for him to be a viable solo class in the long run.. they can do it but just takes to long. As for the Swash I started him after I had gotten my Warde to over lvl 50 and have really never looked back since then. My Swash is 60 atm and Warden has been at 56 for awhile now. The Swash for me has been able to out perform my Warden for soloing since he is able to dish out the DPS and kill the mob faster then the Mob is able to. With Decent Food and Drink the downtime is nill for the Swash also.
