View Full Version : swashy's?
ok maby this thread can help. I'm trying to decide on what to make for a scout. a swash or a ranger. basicly looking for a scout class that can get up close and personal there with the tank in dungeon zones and all that. Now right now i know that rangers have the better dps and basicly act like A wiz standing back and firing arrows for high dps. But they also use alota cash to get all those arrows and poisens to do the dps, nad im not so sure they can take hits that well cause they seem to get beat on alot, not being able to dodge. So my question here is what do swashy's do? can they take hits better while soloing? how good are they in dps ballparking numbers? do they use a bow or do they rely on swords and such for dps? I looked at the brig class but from posts ive veiwed they dont seem to be a very good class for chosing at the moment and maby still in the future so its down to these 2.

Go take a look at any of the five thousand other threads that answer your questions. OR, better yet, use the search feature of this fine establishment.... and then go make a ranger.

*waggles fingers*

You want to be a ranger. You will be a ranger. Rangers are cool.

*snaps fingers*

Search is your friend.. heck, look 5 threads down, who needs search?

Okay, now that the ribbing is done. It's very simple. A ranger can double, triple even quadruple our damage output. They are damage kings. If you roll a swashbuckler, don't come whining back here about how our DPS doesn't compare, how rangers are uber, etc. If damage output is your goal, ranger is your mesiah.

Swashbucklers do very good damage. However they're primary role also includes debuffs and group utility. Playing a swashbuckler requires a love of the class and a simple knowledge knowing few, if anybody, will ever say your class is uber. Our values adds are subtle and as a general rule allow other people to perform better. As such, we rarely get visible credit.

Downsides to a ranger? They have to pay big bucks in ammunition for their damage output. Granted, by the time you're 60th this cost outlay is relatively small but in the early levels, especially pre-40th, it's going to hurt and hurt big. Additionally, in close quarters if they can't use their bows, they barely rank better than troubadors or bards for dps.

Your call. However, %90 of the people that come here asking which is better generally go ranger. Because they really want the big damage numbers and don't understand the game mechanics enough to understand how Swashy's add value.

I see you swashies are adopting the brigand way of redirection. I almost feel a kinship forming. Nope, sorry, just gas.

If you're gonna make that kinda stink, go over to the guardian forums, please. They're used to it there. Or the ranger forums. They need it more.

naw already got a wiz and even though the ranger somehow out dps's him, (even though i saw a thread saying that most legendary poisens and such were going to be done away with creating a sort of nerf on all arrow users) I was basicly looking for a hack and slasher with avoidence which usually scouts have but maby a scout aint a scout anymore lol. i'll look into monk or bruiser, they seem good at avoidence and hit hard even if they dont use swords and such.

considering i am only in my mid 20's i dont know how at high levs this works out. But atm , I am exeedingly happy with my damage output. I was taking agro from a pally 3 levels higher than me with the agro reducer on and ( and i love this ) was taking agro from a conjurer 1 level above with an ad1 pet. Woot my necro took agro from tanks and now i take it from conj. I know i know we not sopposed to take agro and i may not be playing it right. but these cases were in stormhold with green or blue heroics so wasnt really worried. Later against yellow or orange ill just wait a few and let tank generate agro beforehand. But i'm sory but i think its great. ) ( forgive spelling its late, in a hurry and tired. or dont forgive i really couldnt care less. ) { i know thats a bruiser attitude, but not all swashy's are nice either } but to answer his qeustion, I LOVE my swashy, great fun to play. I have a higher necro, but only use him to make food now for my swashy )
well i'll be saving my bruiser char for the pvp servers when there made. But i recently tested out a scout on the isle and I near fell in love with the classes quick cut em up attacks. so im definatly gonna make a scout for reg servers. 1 last question though, do assasins use arrows and bow for there dps or is more like knives and stuff to stab mobs in the back?

with regard to attacks, ranger and assassin are basically opposites, each also has unique skills to their class as well as shared skills that are given as a predator not as either class

Ranger = lots of ranged CA's and a couple/few melee CA's

Assassin = lots of melee CA's and a couple/few ranged CA's

If you're looking for melee dual wield slash and avoidance action, Assassin is definately the way for you to go. No really. You'll have a great time.
