A swashbuckler takes finesse to play well.  It is probably easier to solo then an Assasin (though having never played an Assasin I couldn't say for sure) because we have some additional tools, like crowd control (charm) to help even the odds.  However if you're a fan of big damage numbers per attack the Assasin is the better choice.  Some people equate the amount of damage done per attack int heir combat log to the size of various other parts of the male anatomy.  *shrug*Swashy's are a speed class, relatively lower damage values, much faster attack rates.  While in group combat you will never run out of attacks you *could* use, you're fingers will always be dancing over your various keys or repositioning yourself to maximize either your debuffs or your damage output.  As a class you will be very dependant on your weapons for damage output and how useful you are to your group depends on how much you learn and can use about all your various abilities.  Playing a Swashy as *just* a DPS melee class would be a mistake. If you want *just* DPS melee you might want to consider the Assasin, Brigand or Ranger instead (no offence to those guys intended). <div></div>

I'm more intreasted in the fun factor than pure Damage numbers, and I love to group That's one of the main reasons I quit wow for this game.So does everyone have a fun time playing the Swashy?<div></div>

<div>Yes, swashies are fun.  If you are into the roleplaying then you have chosen the class that gives you the right to flirt with everyone and everything you run into.  You can be flamboyant, egotistical, and "bigger than life"  The catch to all this is that you need to draw the line between being a jerk and being humurous.</div><div> </div><div>We solo well, the numbers speak for themselves, since you said you did not want numbers I will not state any.  Get your adept 1s of all your attack skills and you will be able to solo nearly everything that you could want to solo... reasonably.</div>

That's good to hear! I like to rp it can be fun. Are we wanted in groups? I know I woulden't be taken into a group as fast as a healer or anything but I really do enjoy grouping.<div></div>

<div></div><p>I, for the most part, enjoy my Swashy, for now and hope they don't mess with them much more.</p><p>A properly played one however, requires a lot of work. If you intend to use one to it's fullest in a raid or group.</p>

<div>If ye are prepared to invest in yer character, Swashies can be one of the most entertaining classes of all.</div><div>My Swashie is a wee Ratonga girl, with the most innocent looks. With her background as a rogue and upbringing in Freeport, she has serious issues understanding the concepts of mine vs someone elses and borrowing vs stealing, but whenever a friend opens his bag and sees somethin missing, she never did it with any bad intentions... She just might have been hungry, thirsty, or needing some coins for the lottery tickets... no big deal, really? friends are friends and all?</div><div> </div><div>Rats and gnomes are smallest chars in eq2, and mine is smallest size rat, wich makes her look extremely harmless... till she creeps up behind the mob and plants a dagger deep in its spine whilst it was focusing on the 'big bad' folks instead.</div><div> </div><div>Miepsie can successfully tank heroics if she has to, but looking all small, defensless and almost naivily innocent, she always manages to sneak out of it. This tactic works wonders when things are 'borrowed', agro stolen, or a few too many feet chewed on :p</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>When building a character, ye have the race and the class to build from, and rogues in general (swashies in particular) offer so much for a player to use and abuse *grins wickedly* a 'good' thief? the oxymoron there alone gives for a laugh <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div><div> </div><div> </div><div>As for technicalities... Im atm lvl 60 and raiding tier6 stuff, we can <em>never </em>sleep! Keep this debuff up, toss in some damage, ooops, gotta lower hate, woa the AE on way RUUN! phew, re-find backside of baddie, get old debuffs refreshed and so on (this is raidwise. in groups its fairly similar except for the running).</div><div>Just the thought of standing still at one spot and repeatedly fling magic all day makes me fall asleep althou i guess some like to do that too. If ye like to be deep in and stay focused, its an awesome class. We have had our ups and downs as most other classes, but are fairly well balanced atm. Since the Combat revamp last summer I have not had any issues whatsoever with groups. It might be a bit harder at lower levels with folks not knowing what we can do, a good leader will know atleast the basic tho: we can evac as all scouts, we can invis our group, we can debuff mobs a <em>lot, </em>we got our mini mez for uh oh situations, we can pick up tank role if the real one dies till he is back up, and last but not least, we can unload more damage safely than most other classes due to our various deagro lines wich at same time helps the other DPS avoid agro.</div><div> </div><div>Swashies are likely never gonna be THE FotM (flavour of the month) class, we are a bit too wide for it as minitank, minichanter and respectable damage, but its a load more fun than just doin the biggest hits *smiles*</div><div> </div><div> </div>

'Thief'?!  THIEF!?  Who called us thieves?!?  I'll not be having no scampering, tiny, pint sized little rat implying that we are thieves.  A thief has no charm, no wit, and no skill.  Most importantly, thieves just don't have the arrogance!<div></div>

<div></div><p><span>Swashbucklers aren’t fun to play they are a BLAST to play.  I love playing my Swashy.  Before I started playing EQ2 I did a lot of reading and decided on a Swashbuckler.  While in my mid 30's I decided to try some other toons out [Guardian, Templar, Wizard].  The style of play is much more fun with a Swashbuckler the others were just so boring to me.  I only play Swasbuckler now,  I will never roll another toon again no matter how bad they nerf us :smileymad:</span></p>

<div></div><p>The only class for me is a swashy.  As previous posters have stated we can fill different roles in groups depending on what is needed.  We are sort of the "swiss army knife" of classes.  If I was not having as much fun in game as I am..I would have stopped months ago.  Yes, it may take more work playing a swashy, but the end result is very rewarding.</p><p>Davhanama Deeproot, 52 Swashbuckler</p><p>Lucan D'Lere</p>

To the original poster, Swashies are amazing fun to play if you take everything in this thread and understand it. It really is the *best* class in the game as far as I'm concerned.  But for a lot of intangible reasons.  Community is top notch, the class is well rounded and versatile and the role playing theme is just perfect for my mentality.<span><blockquote><hr>Iseabeil wrote:<p>*searches for better word*</p><p>borrower? <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p><p>(english second language, so lacking a bit in finer synonyms)</p><hr></blockquote></span>We are thieves if it comes to stealing hearts! Otherwise I'd relate us to treasure hunters and adventure seekers.  Rogue's at heart.  Scoundrel's maybe.  But never a thief! If we want to get historical there are a few ways to look at it.  Swashbucklers are closely tied to well known rogues in literature such as Robin Hood and various Pirates.  Now, Robin Hood *did* steal, per se, but generally for a reason and it was not very self-focused.  On the other hand, Pirates were raiders, often taking plunder from various sources.  So the Pirate connection might make us thieves, I'm just not really sure Pirate = Thief.  Besides in terms of sea-faring swashy's I usually consider the "Swashbuckler" to be the captain or first mate of a ship, someone who has a bit more honor and integrity then your average pirate and some nobler reason for doing things. <div></div>

<div>I absatively love my swashy. One of the most well rounded characters in the game. I have 5 others over 20 and most of them each do one thing better than the swashy, but the swashy does all of them better than any one of the others. I liken it to taking my Monk and Warlock and combining them, some defense from the monk, DPS from the Warlock and Utility from both.</div><div> </div><div> </div>

I Love my swashy (3<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. After playing a guardian to 60, this class seems so refreshing! The game is totally different, and as someone else said, good for a hyper-active personality. If you are not doing something all the time in a fight, you are playing your swashy at less than full potential.I have a friend with a pally (60) who started an assasin at the same time, and we are leveling up together. He runs out of power often enough, and has to wait for buttons to become available to click. He uses all of his attacks every fight, so there is not really that much variety in what he does. He DOES out damage me... but I get to do lots of debuffs, mez adds, ping higher level heroics back and forth between us, short-stun, slow, and knockdown, AND do lots of damage. I have to constantly decide which button to press, not to just press the available one. I always have lots of buttons available begging to be next. <span>:smileywink:I like doing what my guardian does well (tank and aggro), but the swashy can do everything else much better (except heal)</span><div></div>

<div></div><div>I played warden before leaving eq2 back in Feb, thinking healer is only fun class to play.  But this time, I tried swashbuckler and I have say its by far the one of fun class I've played in all MMO.  I love playing utility class that brings many different skills to group and swash has that and then some.   Granted I'm only level 30 so I can't say about high level, but things I can do...</div>

Theives? of a lady's heart perhaps. the old swashbuckler charm can do wonders <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Its a great class to play. stealth gets you and the team in and out, without slowing down for nusiances- its straight to the boss fights. Escape is a godsend, and has saved myself and freinds from countless deaths. its also good for getting across a zone in a blink.as for combat... theres about 8 seperate atatck timers (one front only, one back only), a number of back-strikes and stealth-strikes, and a few usefull tricks for debuffs (about 4?). So, often i will solo a mob as Backstab, HO, debuff, Area strike, stun, move for backstrike, cycle all atatcks. repeat as needed.as for buffs, one gives +str+agil, and is wonderfull for carrying around heavy boxes. as a carpenter, i have two 20-slot boxes on me, but am strong enough to carry 4 while fully buffed. the 2nd  box slows me a little when buffs drop. Mitigation buffs let me take an average of 45% of damage between avoidance and mitigation (dual-weilding).<div></div>
