I was curious as to whether the Children of Brell had yet produced anything other than earthquakes as a product of their ritual.

They hadn't.

Upon my arrival at the Windstalker tavern, I noticed that there was a celebration being held there in honour of a hunting contest. Ironic, when you consider that the town is named after someone who wished to put a stop to animal hunting. The tavern was full, there were no seats available, so I was left standing. Soon after I arrived, a brawl broke out over the theft of a longbow.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a ratongan (or so I thought) thief pilfer the coin of one of the huntsman while they were distracted. I followed after the thief out into the Coldwind Coast, using the trail of unwanted coins that the ratonga was leaving behind. Once in amongst the hills of Antonica, the thief appeared to have found what he were looking for, as he stopped and broke into a victory dance in celebration of his find.

Catching him off guard, I carried out an interrogation regarding the theft. The thief offered to give me all of the discarded coins if I would leave him alone with the one remaining coin in his hands which he claimed were a worthless family heirloom. The coin bore the insiginia of an open palm in which lay a closed eye. It was the insignia of the Unseen Hand, so I didn't believe this ratonga's tale for a moment. The thief denied being a member of the Hand, but claimed that the coin's previous owner was a member.

I then asked what a ratonga such as himself would need with the coin, to which he took great offense at being refered to as a ratonga and great pride in proclaiming himself to be a roekillik. Apparently, "the One" (who I presume to be the ruler of the roekillik) has declaired all the roekillik whom have stepped into the sunlight to be tainted and exiled from their society. The thief now seeks refuge with the Unseen Hand through the use of his stolen coin by seeking out "the secret tavern" and "the prophet of combined rings".

This was all that I could get out of the thief before I noticed a huntsman behind me. I turned around just soon enough to see him swing his cudgel at me and render me unconcious until morning. I was awoken by a farmer pouring cold water over me. The farmer told me to clear out of Windstalkers and that hunters are no longer welcome in the village. While I was unconcious, the tavern appeared to have been trashed and the grave of Holly Windstalker had been defiled. The sole trace of the roekillik from the evening before were the coins scattered across the area.

I am fortunate to be alive and with all of my belongings. I am trying not to feel embarrassed over the fact that Renita of Tallon was caught off guard by a common hunter with a cudgel, but I suppose this is Duvessa's "kid with a frying pan" philosophy in practice. Next time, I shall not pursue my target without my Kyutora watching my back first.

Message Edited by Astralmage on 11-13-2006 09:39 AM
