The story of my life, well that’s a little difficult to tell. I guess all good stories start at the beginning, so here goes.....

There has always been a Gabriul among the Kerra for the last 500 and some odd years. Ever since a lone adventurer came upon our little isle. He was Gabriul Sunblade, a mighty paladin of old. He came to Kerra Isle to spread the teachings of Mithaniel Marr. That's not to say that he was a kindly saint, in fact he was a rather gruff individual, prone to smoking cigars and one of his odder habits was getting drunk and taking swims. The lore keepers of our tribe say that he used to amuse himself on hot island days by getting roaring drunk and falling off the docks. But aside from the few vices he had, he was a just and honorable human, something my tribe was not used to.

He set up a shrine to Marr, and began to teach the worship and rites of his deity to any Kerran who would stand and listen to him. In addition he would treat diseases and poisons and saw to the general health and well being of my tribe. Being a primitive people, at first we where distrustful of him, but in time he grew to be an accepted part of our little community, even if few of us ever converted to the worship of Marr.

All of this doesn't sound like something that we Kerrans would remember much of 500 years later does it? Well the real story behind Sunblade lies a few years after he first came to the Isle. For as long as my people can remember our enemies have been the kobold tribes of nearby Odus. Year after year, we watched our warriors die in the struggle to keep Kerra Isle free of their foul stink. And year after year we watched them gain more and more of a foothold on our land. At the time when Gabriul arrived they had already tried to set up a small colony of their own. A band of warriors lead by a kobold chieftain called Redtooth, had tried time and time again to gain a foothold on our peaceful home.

Then, in the latter part of Sunblade's third season on our isle, they struck in force. Thirty warriors led by Redtooth came upon us in the stillness of the night. We where caught by surprise and fully half my people lay dead upon the sands before the paladin came to our aid. Rallying what was left of our warriors, he struck back at the kobolds. Long and bitter was the fighting and in the morning the sea was red with the blood of those slain in the night. It was only when Gabriul came face to face with Redtooth that the fighting slackened and all eyes, Kerran and kobold alike, where on those two. They fought, back and forth on the sands of the beach that gave our people life. And in the end Redtooth was defeated, but Gabriul Sunblade lay dead beside him. The spirit of the kobolds had broken with their leaders death. In the end we pushed them back to the water. Not one of them survived to limp back to the dens of Odus that they called home.

That noble paladin, we laid to rest, there inside his simple shrine. He had come to spread the word of his god, but in the end he had saved our tribe. To this day we Kerrans maintain that shrine to Marr. And to keep his spirit alive amongst our people, our mightiest warrior takes his name. We send him out into the world to teach justice and truth, bravery and sacrifice to all the races living on Norrath. Sometimes they come back to us, sometimes not. But there has always been a Gabriul Sunblade among the Kerra.

Message Edited by Gabriul on 04-04-2005 06:54 PM

Just a simple short story. My first actually. I'd love to hear what you thin on it.
