Ive overlooked lore for the most part of my eq life but am feeling I miss a huge part not knowing any histories and such, but I find it really overwhelming all of the mass of lore there is, so where would one start reading about it then continue from there? Any advice appreciated, or maybe a lore lesson or 2=)

<DIV> <DIV>The lore of EQ and EQ2 is definitely an overwhelming monster when looking at it for the first time... but that's what makes it so great :smileyhappy:</DIV> <DIV>There is SO much lore on SO many topics that even lore vets always have something new to learn and discover. The developers really do a great job with this aspect of the game. So, the first thing to keep in mind is that you probably never will truly "know" all of the lore of EQ. It's a constantly growing entity.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, for starters, I'd suggest checking out the stickied threads on this forum entitled "The History of Norrath" and "An eq1 lore primer." These two topics will give you a very good insight into lore leading up to EQ2. Do understand, though, that EQ1 lore is only valid in EQ2 up to the Planes of Power expansion (specifically, the first completion of the Plane of Time). When the Plane of Time was defeated on EQ1, Druzzil Ro showed up and split the EQ timeline in two, creating the EQ1 world and the EQ2 world. This was a creative way for the two games to remain seperate, but any EQ1 lore up to that point is valid and applies to EQ2. Any expansions added to EQ1 after that split do not apply to EQ2.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To set up the world of Norrath as it exists now, you can read the Tome of Destiny. Basically, the Gods were angry that mortals had invaded and sacked their planes, so they formed a council and decided that they needed to leave Norrath for a time. Some of the Gods didn't play fairly, though. Rallos Zek and Solusek Ro sent down avatars, and under the name of Rallos, the 2nd Rallosian Army was formed. It almost succeeded in claiming the known world, but was stopped short by the armies of Freeport and Qeynos with the help of the Avatars of Quellious and Karana. Soon after, the Rending occurred, which ravaged the lands, forming the Norrath that we know today (approx. 500 years ago.) Much more recently (approx. 15 years ago) the moon of Luclin mysteriously shattered, raining another wave of destruction down onto the face of the planet. That sets us up for where we are today.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>While that is the main theme for EQ2, there is so much more lore in the game. In fact, almost every place you visit, everything you see, every item you touch, has a story behind it... some are connected to the bigger picture in some ways, and others exist as their own entity. It's this interaction that makes the EQ2 lore so much fun to follow!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My advice is just to begin reading posts on these forums. Over time, you'll gain knowledge that you'll eventually be able to piece together for a better understanding of what's going on. Welcome to the Lore boards!</DIV></DIV>

<DIV>My suggestion is to start with the history of each of the races in the game and expand from there. You can find these quests at the mage towers along with books for other stories.</DIV>

<div></div>I honestly just started getting into the Lore about a month or so ago and I am hooked now.  I agree with Cusa about the Races (EQ1) Race Lore is probably the best place to start.  Here is a great overview thread:http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=lore&message.id=1350and if you are just looking for the books on an external site:EQ2 Lore - http://www.eq2daily.com/wiki/index.php?title=Everquest_LoreEQ1 Lore - http://www.eq2daily.com/wiki/index.php?title=EverQuest_1_Lore(The first thing you want to get a grasp of is where they split)I hope you find it atleast half as interesting as i do when you dive into it.<div></div><p>Message Edited by Cyanbane on <span class=date_text>08-11-2006</span> <span class=time_text>06:37 AM</span>

There are some great suggestions for you already.   The only thing I would add is to really find one aspect that you enjoy the most and dive into that first.  You will eventually be led down a path to many other discoveries.  So much of the lore in intertwined which is what makes it so overwhelming yet so great.  Good luck with your pursuit and please post any questions you have.  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div>
