I started most of my characters in Qeynos, Shar Vahl or Neriak, so when it came to EQ1's Greater and Lesser faydark I was lost most of the time, I could occasionally find my way to the Estate of Unrest (Already near Ruins in EQ1 I wonder if it is the rubble of unrest in 2). I was raised on BB being Blackburrow not Butcherblock I've never been to Crushbone, I cut my teeth on the Commonlands, Neriak, and Orc Highway orcs. Clronie Shadowfist(Human Monk), Sentaiga Iceclaw(Vah Shir Beastlord), Kanaraz Sadaur(Teir'Dal Warrior who could walk freely in Qeynos due to many gnoll fangs) on Brell (Whatever it's called now) Point is, I am less then conversant on some of the more basic lore aspects of the continent introduced in the upcomming expansion. And for those who haven't even played EQ1 it might be even more confusing. So what is known and guessed at?

Ok pretty big question. First off ...The Races of Faydwer:==================High Elves: Moved to the continent at the end of their prosperity on Tunaria (now Antonica) in what has changed from the Elddar Forest to the Desert of Ro due to a curse placed upon the land by Solusek Ro, Lord of Flame. They flee to Faydwer leaving many great cities behind including Takish-Hiz their once prosperous and near inmpregnable capital. They construct Felwithe as their new home.Wood Elves: See High Elves, Construct Kelethin.Dwarves: Native to Faydwer (I believe, correct me if im wrong), Placed by Brell in the underfoot, construct Kaladim, not sure of time scale compared to elves but it is before they arrive on Faydwer, aside from Dragon kind the Dwarves are the Oldest race on Norrath.Gnomes: Again native to Faydwer, part of Brell's underfoot that make their way to the surface as a major race (PC). Ak'anon is their home beneath the Steamfont Mountains.Other Influential Powers==================Crushbone Orcs: On the edge of the Faydark the Crushbone Orcs are an ever present threat, created by Rallos Zek at the same time as Tunare creates the Elves the orcs have likely always been, or for a long time have been a force on Faydwer. Like their bretheren accross the world they are bent on conquest. They are a powerful clan of Orcs, equivelent to the Deathfists of Antonica (now located in EQ2 Zek).Kedge: Created my Prexus the Kedge of Kedge keep are another old power. I dont know much about their lore but they are protectors of the water and uphold the doctorine that one day the oceans will rise to cover all of Norrath. Not sure of when they arrive on Faydwer, an ocean going race it could b at any time but I suspect it is before the Elves arrive (they are a reletively late addition to Faydwer)Lesser Races & Groups==================Goblins: There are a variety of goblins on Faydwer, these are also likely reletively early additions (pre elves) to the continentGreenblood Ogres: A general menace in the ButcherblockCreatures========Giant BatsDrakesSkeletonsZombiesVampiresFariesSpiders etc etc etc .... Basically there was a magical and often gloomy theme to the continentI think thats the races covered, other things that need doing: Places, History(War of they Fay is already on boards), Influential people(Mistmoore, Frionia Vie, Kazon Stormguard), and anything else you can think of =).I never did that much adventuring anywhere on Faydwer except the Greater Faydark, but this is a start I guess.

Faydwer is home to two of the more interesting characters of Everquest lore:

Mayong Mistmoore: Mayong is an ancient vampire lord who has a castle south of the Faydark forests. It's commonly believed that in life Mayong is was an elf race, either an Eldar elf or a dark elf. He was the first to contract vampirism, it's said it came from a contract made with Innorruuk. Mayong has, perhaps, the farthest flung reach of anyone else on Norrath, from various vampire clans, to the darachnids that appeared on Kunark, to werewolves (I recall reading somewhere that Mayong created lycanthropy, the werewolf disease.) In EQlive he had abandoned his castle to travel the planes and the underfoot in search of more power; in the more recent expansions, he had achieved his power, having ascended to becoming the Demi-God of Blood.

Phinegel Aurotropos: one of the first races created on Norrath were the creation of the Oceanlord, Prexus, the kedge race. The kedge created as their greatest city the Kedge Keep in the lake of Dagnor's Cauldron in Faydwer. In time, the most powerful wizard of the kedge was one named Phinegel Aurotropos. He was trying to perform a magical ritual of great power and went to Kedge Keep to use the Temple of Prexus to applify his power. There are a few stories about what this ritual was supposed to do, but none have been proved to my satisfaction. The ritual seemed to be working, but it was too much power, Phinegel lost control of the spell. The spell swept through all of Dagnor's Cauldron and perhaps through the entire ocean, it killed every single kedge, except Phinegel. Some stories say the spell also gave Phinny immoratlity, but he was in no condition to enjoy it, being responsible for the accidental genocide of his entire species drove him a little insane. So now he swims through the ruins of his people's civilization, fighting off any who would enter the Keep

I forget my timelines but at some stage 2 of the evil races established bases on the continent of Faydwer in the pursuit of power, knowledge and money.

Crushbone Orcs: These orcs had made an almost successful foray into the elves territory but were beaten back (by a combine force of dwarves and elves I believe), rather than give up completely, they managed to withdrawal to an area which they established as the Crushbone Citadel in the back of what seems like a mountain but is a cave entrance to a large open area which they built fortifications and have camps scattered about. They're able to successfully defend their territory and wait patiently for their allies to build a new force for which to attack the elves once again. This led to the creation of the wood elf city Kelethin (don't quote me on this, it's been a while - although from what I understand, the Wood Elves were a race long before that happened) as the elves needed to be prepared from an attacking force from three directions, North - Crushbone, South - Lesser Faydark and the Neriak-kin from Mistmoore and West, which was really unnecessary due to the Dwarves dominance through that area but had many tribes of goblins which would have been serious if they mustered an assault (which was never going to happen due to their fractured loyalties to each other).

Mistmoore Vampires: As already described, Mistmoore was a base established by the dark elves to launch an invasion into Greater Faydark and to defeat the elves, but unfortunately for them were beaten back by the combined might of the dwarves and elves (although another sorely tested memory tells me that there was a force of humans in there as well, but I'm sure that's incorrect). Due to a curse or experiment, Mayongg Mistmoore became a vampire and over time so did the rest of his legions. Indeed he went plundering the planes for power and knowledge but young adventurers will still find the Dark Prince (a lesser version and before the planes journey) in his established home awaiting more victims to bring to the cause.

Greater and Lesser Faydark: Make no mistake, there is nothing lesser about Lesser Faydark. The area has slowly been warped by the machinations of Mistmoore Castle and in doing so has made the area lethal to all young unwary adventurers. While greater Faydark has been tamed to some degree, Lesser Faydark has grown the opposite and many perils including bandits await you here.

Butcherblock Mountains After a difficult trek from Faydark, travellers will meet the dwarves of Kaladim which need no explanation save that they are the elves oldest allies and they protect the only official docks on the continent. These docks lead to...yes indeed, the archaic cesspool that is Freeport. Although, in early days, the Dwarves had many allies in that once great city, the Knights of Marr being one. Nowadays....who knows?

There might be some inaccuracies here, honestly I can't remember how much I got right, it's been years since I last played. It will be interesting to see what the cataclysms have done while the elves have been away. Obviously not too much as it's a new starting city, but all the other areas seem to have changed drastically.

Some of the lore I haven't covered are things like the Clockwork Menace who has been a protagonist since EQ1, a creation gone bad, now the new King of Ak'Anon, Steamfont Mountains which I never really adventured in. Dagnor's Cauldron either, I was more of a fan of the Butcherblock Mountains, the Karana Plains, and Kurn's Tower (man I loved that place). I'm digressing but also remember, this isn't EQ1 500 years into the future, this is an alternate EQ1 500 years into the future where the races lost their "war" with the Gods and were punished for their arrogance and disrespect by 100 years of cataclysms so the place will be much changed. EQ1 is travelling at almost the same speed now as EQ2, except they are only just now in danger after taking power away from the gods in the new expansion (Prophecy of Ro). Basically the differences between the two games are very much evident, the gods are ready to return to EQ2 and things are getting better, more of the old lands are being rediscovered, while in EQ1, after plundering the planes and killing one or two of the gods, disaster has struck and the world is in danger of a deadly "disease" in the form of a madness that threatens to envelop the world! Exciting stuff

Message Edited by eyes007 on 08-08-2006 12:33 PM
