I was reading the post from Hukklebuk regarding Zebs words and noticed something strange

------------------------------------------

reference : here

Paragraph 4:

However, this was not all that transpired. For I beheld the fabric of time that all beings travel upon unfurled before me as a scroll of exquisite parchment. And I beheld that the parchment neatly tore in twain at that moment of the Matron's command, but not as two parts of a whole but as two wholes of the same whole each containing the same words and symbols and they continued on as before, completely unaware of one another. I then watched as one of the parchments curled upon itself for the space of time appointed by the Matron of the Art so that the parchment did not continue forward for the space of several hours before once again continuing on before me.

--------------------------------------------

Now I asked in the other thread but figured I should make it its own thread since..well....the question I had wasn't germaine to Hukklebuk's

which of course is....Why when the universe was split was it necessary to pause one temporarily?

Any help or theories would be appreciated...:smileyhappy:

Is it really that important to know?

It's not really our place to know why. I mean it's not like knowing why would actually change anything, would it?

Only a dev response would be able to clear this up, in my oppinion, but I wouldn't expect a spoiler answer.

Maybe a few years down the line after the gods start giving us secrets and knowledge again or something, but for now I only see a minor detail that isn't ment to be speculated upon.

I would say those "several hours" are the hours of time you were actually in the Plane of Time. Time is in fact "paused" there. Well, perhaps not paused, but not exactly on track with everything else At the end of which the "parchment" loops around, sending you back to the moment before you entered PoT, and time continues on as it would have.

Yes but I'm not asking a dev to post or reveal the true meaning of theis "minor detail"....I'm asking the community to speculate upon it....and if we are gazing upon things we were not meant to know surely the gods will smite me for it......but you are not a god Cusa....at least the last time I checked.

Seriously though...this may be somewhat akin to speculating upon the nature of heaven....or the number of angels that may dance on the head of a pin...but if no one is interested in discussing it....this thread will die...and as I said...if we are not to even speculate upon it....the devs will certainly let us know...because I'm sure it can.."disappear" very fast....accidents happen all the time..lol

That does make sense... or at least whatever sense we can make out of the whole thing anyway.

Ahh...found the loose bit that was bugging me...the passage is by Zeb....and he continues after that point so its unlikely he was deposited back before he entered...might still refer to the adventurers though..

It doesn't sound like it's saying that time was paused, I think it's just saying that Druzzil made time bend back a couple hours

oh hell....I think I found the answer in there actually...or at least a clue to it....

And the space of time between them was the very same number of hours that was the appointed time of the Matron.

its reffering to the "distance" between the parchments here.....so its implying that the wait was to give one time to change from the other perhaps?

Ahhh..I see your saying Druzzil did it to change the intial starting conditions of that timeline thus insuring a different sequence of events....because though the pause might be a small change it would still cause permutations to the end result.....nice....I never really had paid attention to chaos theory before thanks....sounds like a good answer to me....:smileyhappy:

read ganng's link to understand

Message Edited by SharpeRifle on 08-04-2006 04:57 PM

The thing that impresses me, (OOC-wise), is that it shows the attention to detail that the lore author possesed when writing the script.

Additionally, (OOC-wise), that 'pause' is a nifty little author's tool that could be used at some future date to make any changes or additions that they may wish to make.

It's obvious that the whole time split was done to allow the two games to develop independantly from each other, and there had to be some device used to allow that to happen.

I've never really been comfortable with it, as it always seemed too contrived, but on the other hand I can't think of any other way to achieve the necessary independance for the two games.

That pause could be a real Pandora's Box in the future if the developers ever chose to do so. There's no telling what could have happened during that lost time (basically, anything and everything)

Message Edited by Mary the Prophetess on 08-04-2006 10:17 PM
