Journal of HarobelWould a lore "expert" mind reading that and letting me know if I have all the lore in that right, so that if I don't I can fix my mistakes? I was at http://lorenorrath.free.fr/timeline.php trying to insure I got everything right, but I began getting confused with the recent timelime. How can 20 Norrath years already have passed since the beginning? Humans are going to get old really quick...

Bravo.

You have a talent for writing. As you asked, I read it over for any historical inacuracies and whatnot, and I found nothing objectionable, and I applaud your inspirations of what I assume will eventually lead you to becomming a monk.

Anyways, I wouldn't be concerned about humans aging much. From what I hear, You would be middle aged yourself, as Trolls live about 60 years, 70 is exceptional.

Forgive and forget about such details though, that's not important.

I'll try to forget, but I tend to be a tad OCD.

Thanks for reading it over, Cusashorn!

Hmm, I'm not sure I would consider myself an expert, but I do know a thing or two, and have been working hard to figure stuff out. The story is VERY well written, and that is to be commended, I have one or two inconsistancies that bothered me just a tad. I liked part of your description of the Shattering, especially since you would most deffinately have seen it (being only 15 years prior). I'm not sure the Rending would have been quite as removed as you felt it to be (father's father's father, I think you said?) Although the worst of it without doubt, was at that time, I am under the impression that lesser quakes (lesser meaning 4.5s, enough to shake things up pretty nicely out here in CA, though they generally don't do more than displace some pictures, and occasionally knock down really old buildings, thanks to today's building codes.) thoughout a lot of the Age of Cataclysm, this is very much interpretational, though, so don't bother with it.

One thing that sort of bothered me, was that the waves from the Shattering were what washed your family out to sea..I'm not sure if you've ever been in the Commonlands...but in order for waves to be that tall, Most of North Freeport, East Freeport, and South Freeport would have been under water. I love your description of it, a meteor shower of biblical proportions, but if that much of the city was flooded onloy 15 years ago, I would think you'd still see a LOT of damage, as well as a LOT of people talking about it. Barriers of sorts would have been erected to prevent such things from happening again (as opposed to the beautiful vistas one gets in the coastal parts of the city), at the least! Unlike Antonica, there are no beaches in the Commonlands. The land bordering the ocean is cliff. In some places, pathways have been cut to allow sea access, but none of these are suitable for farming.

Another thing that bothered me was the monk he learned from...was from Freeport. The bruisers from Freeport (the majority of them, in any case) are very similar to the Ashen Disciples of the Pillars of Flame. They are not abou inner peace and tranquility, as they were in EQ. The old monks of the Ashen Order were sort of run off by Lucan, and fled to a monastary they had in Ro (which is what you sort of see in the Pillars of Flame). The bruisers seemed to have come from a number of monks who stayed behind and sided with Lucan. These individuals were probably some of the founders of the Ashen Disciple faction, as they, too promoted the strength of mind and body over all else, emphasizing hard discipline that would hone one's body into a weapon of strength, not an inner peace that would soothe the soul. The cliche, "Might makes right" comes to mind, when thinking about bruisers.

The final thing that bothered me, and I suffer from this, too, with my own troll. Trolls are stupid. Plain and simple. I'm not saying they can't learn common, because I believe the broken common they speak is more dialectic than anything else, but for the most part, trolls..are...stupid. They do philosophy about the meaning of life. They do not pursue the mysteries of the universe. In general, trolls think about getting their next meal, and in most trollish societies, gathering up as much power as material goods that they have the strength to defend. Unlike the ogres, there was no curse placed on the trolls. They simply are of limited mental faculty. I play a troll shaman who can offer some alarmingly wise incites, but his wisdom isn't the result of some sort of pursuit of spiritual meaning, his wisdom is innate, he simply calls it like he sees it. Occasionally even repeating something one the the spirits he communes with told him. When he does that, he doesn't understand what he's saying. He's simply repeating what he was told. It can be very frustrating to roleplay this when you, as a real person, are very intelligient. Sometimes it drives me crazy for me to have Serazuul be confused about an argument that I would love to interject my perspective on, but the topic is simply over Serazuul's head. Trolls are simply not overly bright. They can be cruel, savage, and relentless, but in general, are mentally challenged. They are creations of Cazic-Thule, the god of fear. Savage cruelty seem to be bred into them, though I believe that being raised on a farm by humans is more than likely to make take away a lot of it, his inner drive for destruction would be something of an inner demon. Fighting his nature for those he loves, sort of thing.

I realise I'm being overly critical here, and if you really want, you can disregard my entire post. As I said, you did a wonderful job writing it..these are some things that just nagged at me. (well, most of the things). There was a lot of good in it, too, I liked the deserted island scene, the doing odd jobs to scratch some coin together. I'm very curious why the leader of Saga would take an interest in him, but I somehow see that becoming a link to becoming a monk in Qeynos? Anyways, keep up the good work.

I tied Adeste in there because she mailed me some furniture when I came back (I posted a hello sort of thing on the AB forums! ).I plan on reworking it a bit - thanks for the post! I'm [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] and over critical, so I highly appreciate your post! I'll do some reworking, for sure. I've got a really good idea for how he is intelligent. It may be a bit before I can write about it as school starts soon and I have to finish my summer assignments, however. Thanks again! I look forward to you reading the reworked version!
