View Full Version : Befallen - Lucan's trap for Knights of Truth

I've found this quote by Moorgard:<hr size="2" width="100%">Befallen's entrance was sealed after Lucan used the dungeon to trap the Knights of Truth within it. Perhaps someday another entrance will be found. I for one would love to revisit that place.<hr size="2" width="100%">Does anyone have any more information on this. Like when it takes place, in relation to the defeat of the Rallosian army at the Battle of Defiance when he turned the forces of Freeport on the Knights of Truth and the Priests of Marr? or any further information on the actual event (how he tricked them into the trap, etc..)? It would figure into a story I'm writing, and I'd like to get this at least semi-correct, even if it is a "folk tale" type story.<div></div>

<DIV>Hmmm this isn't something that was ever gone into great detail in the game. In fact, I can't think of anyone ever mentioning the existance of Befallen in the game outside of the Bone Bladed Claymore quest itself.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I don't know when it happened, but I know that Lucan tricked them by saying that there was a great evil comming from within, and that only the full force of the Knights of Marr could defeat it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>He took this opportunity to destroy the entrance and seal them inside, and then imediately took political control over Freeport when he announced the unfortunate events that occured.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>His evil intents became quickly apparent to the rest of the city, and he took care of the last few remaining Knights of Marr who still lived in the city.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>*EDIT*</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Ahh. Correction. I just went back and re-read the Battle of Defiance. You're right, the Knights of Truth were still around then. Well then, that pushes back my estimation of when it happened by another 100 years or so.</DIV><p>Message Edited by Cusashorn on <span class=date_text>07-24-2006</span> <span class=time_text>02:50 PM</span>

Thats the wierd part for me... if he trapped (even some of) them before the battle, then one would assume that the Knights would know about this and be prepared for a betrayal at the battle of Defiance... if it happened after, well, why the heck would they trust Lucan? Unless of course the trap was so good that eithera) it happened before, but was so well laid that it never got back to the order that it was a trap, orb) They went to Befallen under false pretenses, not realizing that it was Lucan getting them to go there. It doesn't make a difference either way, I can work the tale based on either, I'd just like to find out when it happened at least (Maybe the all-seeing Vhalen can answer that much? <span>:smileyvery-happy:</span>)<div></div>

<P>It would be nice to get some back history on befallen. I am not completely clear on it.</P> <P>All I know is that Stormhold was to be Befallen, but game devs moved it to Ant to give dungeon balance to game. (CL has Fallen Gate) Then the Lore Masters made Stormhold lore to fit it into Antonican history.</P> <P>So, perhaps the devs will take that instance, color it different, put different mobs, and stick one in CL one day. (do i smell an adventure pack idea?)</P>

<DIV>Well the Battle of Defiance suggests that Lucan would not trick them to thier doom untill after the war had ended.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also: The Knights of Truth didn't know that it was Lucan himself who set them up. Lucan could have very easily blamed the natural disasters caused by the Rending as the cause. Nobody could challenge his word at the time, because nobody had any proof to suggest otherwise.</DIV>

<font color="#66ff00"><font size="2"><font face="Comic Sans MS">I would love to see Befallen back in the game. maybe not as a clone of Stormhold (which is a clone of befallen O_o confused enough? ) Perhaps the survivors of the cave in really DID find a great evil inside and have set up a base camp (with repaird upper levels) Freeportians would be aggro to the Paladins/Templars while non-agro with the Shadowknight/Necromanncers deep within, and vise versa for Qeynosians. This could make for some grouping issues so aside from nameds most of the dungeon would have to be solo friendly as well as group. as a buffer between the groups are ranks of undead.</font> </font></font><div></div>

<P>The Befallen thread, (and all the spin-offs from it: the Fists of Marr, Ardathium, Val 'Marr, The Bone Bladed Claynore, Stormhold, the betrayal by Lucan), is one of the deepest lore threads in all of EQ.</P> <P>It has roots in practically every single EQ spin-off: EQoA, EQ Live, EQ table-top RPG, and EQ2.</P> <P>I can't imagine NOT having Befallen added in at some time.</P> <P> </P>

<P>The majority of the Knights of Truth and Priests of Marr left Freeport near the end of the Age of Turmoil. They left behind a meager detachment of priests and Sentries of Erollisi to tend to the temples of the twin deities. The crusade they rode off on is said to be the Befallen trap that the Overlord set for the valorous order. But rumors began to spread within the halls of The Militia House that the Sir Lucan was the one who was fooled. The knights rode off on a secret crusade, all the while playing the part of the unwitting victims. This would be the veil of their secret crusade. Is this a rumor spread by the faithful followers of the twin deities or did the knights truly ride off on a secret crusade? The Overlord would not get a glimpse of the truth until the Battle of Defiance.</P> <P>The secret crusade they rode off on has never been divulged, although Sir Lucan did his best to pry it from the tortured souls of the priests and sentries left behind. Not being able to find any trace of his former order, he assumed that his trap had worked. His eyes would not be opened to the truth until the Battle of Defiance when the glint of shining armor strode upon the thickened battlefield. With banners of truth and love held high and sword and shield at the ready, the knights emerged from extinction. Where they had been all this time and what brought them back has not been told, but the answers begin with the title they now carry, The Order of Marr.</P>

<P>Vhalen could you verify or correct this for me?</P> <P> </P> <P>Initially, the Paladins of Marr were called the <STRONG>Che Virtuson</STRONG>, and The Priests of Marr were called the <STRONG>Order of the Rose</STRONG>? </P> <P>After the fall of Ardathium, both Orders were united under the new title, <STRONG>The Fists Of Marr</STRONG>? </P> <P>After the ruin of Val 'Marr, and the relocation of both Orders to Freeport, they were again separate, and known as the <STRONG>Knights of Truth</STRONG>, and the <STRONG>Priests of Marr</STRONG>? </P> <P>Finally, they are now re-emerging, again as a combined Order, now called the <STRONG>Order of Marr</STRONG>?</P> <P>One other question. Is the 'Crusade of Tears' that is referenced in the EQ table-top RPG, an official part of the EQ lore library concerning the Orders of Marr, and if so, under which title, (above), was it conducted?</P> <P>The whole sequence is a bit confusing to me.</P>

Well, if they came back as the Order of Marr, chances are they were tending to the Qeynos Claymore...<b>SPOILER FOR END OF CLAYMORE QUEST-LINE BELOW</b> The Final ReportI have reported to Tayil N'Velex that the quest for the Qeynos Claymore is over. The Claymore is nowhere to be found. The armies of Freeport will surely march on this realm in search of the glorious artifact that is the Qeynos Claymore. Why it is also called Enoxus is a mystery that I am sure will be solved by the Overlord. Before I leave Tenebrous Tangle, I should speak to Lady Erillis. I have made it all the way back to Hidden Refuge in Tenebrous Tangle. I have returned to Hidden Refuge. Tayil has relunctantly rewarded me for the failed quest for the Qeynos Claymore. I have disappointed the Overlord. I have reported my failure....You say, "Hail, Lady Erillis"Lady Erillis says to you,"Greetings, friend. Gloom has overtaken your face. Why so down?"You say to Lady Erillis,"I have disgraced myself in the eyes of The Overlord."Lady Erillis says to you,"Be sad that your ruler does not hold the great sword, but be joyous that it is in a safe place, far from the clutches of evil."You say to Lady Erillis,"How can you say that? The dragons still have the claymore!"Lady Erillis says to you,"Aaryonar lies. My people have the Qeynos Claymore. We sped it away from the Overrealm while your actions here diverted the eyes of the dragons."You say to Lady Erillis,"Your people? The Lost Children of Marr have the Qeynos Claymore now?"Lady Erillis says to you,"No. My people are an ancient order. I formed the Lost Children to assist my fellow frogloks, but those I call my brothers and sisters are the ancient followers of the twin deities. We are the Order of Marr and we are the sworn guardians of the Qeynos Claymore."You say to Lady Erillis,"What do you mean that you are the sworn guardians of the Qeynos Claymore?"Lady Erillis says to you,"Long ago the gods of valor and love called to their most devoted followers. They instructed us to come together and form a great union. This mighty knighthood would forever be sworn to protect the swords and see to it that no evil could possess them."You say to Lady Erillis,"Swords? There are two Qeynos Claymores?"Lady Erillis says to you,"There is but one Qeynos Claymore. The sibling sword is not to ever meet the claymore. So it is the Order of Marr that have been watching these swords over many ages. Keeping them from conflict. "You say to Lady Erillis,"What is the other sword?"Lady Erillis says to you,"The secrets of the Swords of Destiny are many. Those that my order knows of must remain locked within our souls. The less you know the safer Norrath is. "You say to Lady Erillis,"The Overlord will take care of the Qeynos Claymore. He can protect Norrath from any destruction."Lady Erillis says to you,"Although your Overlord knows litttle of the claymore's secrets, he knows enough to threaten all of Norrath. We will continue to guard the claymore and keep an eye on its sibling sword."You say to Lady Erillis,"How do you know I won't tell the Overlord that you have it? He can take it with ease."Lady Erillis says to you,"Because you are like us whether you know it yet or not. You too are a guardian of the Swords of Destiny. Only through our actions will Norrath remain safe."You say to Lady Erillis,"You are right. I can sense the claymore is safe with the Order of Marr. When will I know more?"Lady Erillis says to you,"You will know more when you meet others of the Order of Marr. We await you in realms beyond the sea. There is where we will continue the calling of Erollisi and Mithaniel Marr. There is where we will finally obtain the missing piece of the sibling sword. But that battle is far from now."You say to Lady Erillis,"Then what for now?"Lady Erillis/a says to you,"You will go on and live. Keep your skills honed. There will be a time when you will join us in a battle to complete the sibling sword. We shall be watching you. "You say to Lady Erillis,"How will you find me in the future?"A Final Froglok WordI have been inducted into the Order of Marr, a secret and ancient order whose duty it is to guard the Qeynos Claymore and its unknown sibling sword. Together these swords are called the Swords of Destiny and the Order of Marr must keep them from evil clutches. Someday in the future, the Order of Marr will call for my help again. Lady Erillis has revealed herself to be a member of a secret Order of Marr. Lady Erillis is a member of the secret Order of Marr. I have been inducted into the secret society of the Order of Marr. They will contact me in the future. I have been inducted into the Order of Marr.Lady Erillis says to you,"Choose your reward of valor and love. These were fashioned from the secrets of the Qeynos Claymore. Only members of the Order of Marr wield such wonders. Now, go and live. Marr will call. "You say to Lady Erillis,"Thank you and I await your calling in the future."<b>END SPOILER SECTION</b><div></div>
