<DIV>In the Elven realms and other places in EQ1 the NPCs like Orcs would say "you've ruined your land, you'll not ruin mine!"</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The Elvish areas always seemed rather nice to me (well, except for those land-ruining Orcs!) When did the Elves ever ruin the land?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>Well, if the citizens of Takish'Hiz hadn't made such an astounding little empire it never would have gotten Solusek Ro angry.  Those Orcs and Gnolls are afraid of Elves and Humans and other races because they will bring progress, and these more primitive races are afraid of progress because a god might smite their land.  It's all very simple :smileytongue:</P> <P>I think the better question is why lizardmen always call my Iksar a "softskin".  Talk about an insult :smileysad:</P>

<DIV>I do have to agree that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" or in this case of the race.  However I do believe that the dark elves may have "Ruined" or unleashed something upon their city.  In EQOA there was a great big door that was guarded by sentries and I have a feeling whatever may have been behind that door was unleashed upon the city. </DIV>

that door is where the king and queen were. Neriak was destroyed by asslings and a crazy necro about 1000 years after eqoa<div></div>

A necromancer named Tserallith (whom you can fight the reincarnated version of in Vault of the Fallen) is responsible for that. During the combined raid on Neriak, she got the OK from Queen Thex to use a very powerful item (I *think* this is rumored to be the Hand of Byzola, one-half of the conjoined twins of Malice). Unfortunately, the Teir`dal didn't realize just how powerful this item was... hence the reason the current denizens of Neriak have all lost a bit of weight, and the city seriously needs a public beautification program.</P> <P>In any case, this wasn't done until long after EQ1. Back when the orcs were saying that, Neriak was a beautiful city to behold :smileyhappy:</P>

It happened in The Lost ageyou can read the lore of the creation of norath here <a href="http://www.eq2daily.com/wiki/index.php?title=EverQuest_1_Lore&eq2dailywiki_wiki__session=395f797f9c251622664a50f 4075b3ca3" target=_blank>http://www.eq2daily.com/wiki/index.php?title=EverQuest_1_Lore&eq2dailywiki_wiki__session=395f797f9c251622664a50f 4075b3ca3</a><hr size="2" width="100%"><p>The last of the old races to decline was the empire of the Elves. </p><p>The Elddar Forest, the Elven realm of old, spread across the entire southeastern quarter of Tunaria. Tree communities and marble cities were built in the forest's clearings and meadows, their white towers and spires climbing out of the forest, higher than the tallest tree. </p><p>Legends say this prosperity drew the jealousy of Solusek Ro, Lord of Flame. He arched the spine of the serpent mountains, bringing heat from the burning sun to the ancient forest. </p><p>The rivers ran dry, it rained less each year, and while the great elven druids fought long and hard, using their powerful magics to combat the change, they could only delay the inevitable. </p><p>Slowly the forest gave way to desert, and eventually even the fair Elven city Takish-Hiz crumbled and the elves were forced to flee Tunaria, leaving much of their greatness behind. </p><hr size="2" width="100%"><div></div>

<DIV>Oh so the elves ruined thier own lands by letting Solusek Ro ruin it for them? HAH!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Besides. The Orcs dont care about history. They dont keep thier own, so why would they remember something like that?</DIV>

So it kind of like a taunt.</div>

<DIV>Ack! Pwned...</DIV> <DIV>Thanks for the correction :smileywink: Not sure why I always assumed Tserallith was female. I guess the thought of someone getting so angry that they go off and ruin the day of about 1000 people and destroy an entire city struck me as a female :smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To answer the original post, I think the orcs just say that because they find the cities of Kelethin and Felwithe as unsightly or "ruined." In the eye of an orc, beauty (or atleast efficiency and progress) is represented by a barren wasteland patrolled by sentries and littered with the production of war-time supplies (e.g. Zek).</DIV><p>Message Edited by IrishWonder on <span class=date_text>07-26-2006</span> <span class=time_text>07:18 AM</span>

For the great majority of Norrath, Orc's don't care about anything but the present.
