<DIV>Hi, i'm new to this part of the forums, so not even sure if this is the right place to be posting this..but figured i'd give it a shot.  I was curious if anyone was aware of any lore surrounding Captain Ulssissaris in the Cove of Decay.  I havent come accross any books or items that really touch on him, and havent come in contact with any NPC's that have anything to say about him either.  </DIV>

<DIV>EDIT:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Bah. Silly me. Even now I still think "CoD" means Crypt of Decay from EQLive.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Ok. Now that thats sorted out, I think he was only the captain of the ship and nothing more.</DIV><p>Message Edited by Cusashorn on <span class=date_text>07-18-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:11 PM</span>

hmm...anything at all would be helpfull.  I'm hoping that i can solve a puzzle thats been eating at me for some time now.  I wish i had spent a little more attention to what i was being told during the access quest for the CoD now!

<DIV>in the access quest it really doesn't mention anything other then the exsistance of the creepy undead. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>IBut the quest does speak of storm sunder, and the reforming of it.  Which i think is a powerful item used by the centaurs to help them in their fight against the gnolls.</DIV>

<DIV>slightly off topic, but when i killed him, he dropped an item called "a sea key". i have no idea what it does, theres no tags on it, and it doesn't let you interact with anything in the zone as far as i know. anyone have any idea what it does? link <A href="http://eq2.ogaming.com/db/items/ASeaKey.php" target=_blank>here</A></DIV>

Well my main point of interest is he captain, and the key that he drops.  this has been nagging at me ever since i first looted it a long time ago.  i still have it sitting in my bank.  Every inquery i've made has all come back saying that the key is not just a broken quest item, which leads me to beleive that it must go to something somewhere.  I've just never thought to check in the lore sections to see if anyone has any information that might be usefull about the captain, or anything related to the cove.  It seems that most people have given up on the key and its secrets, but i just can't let it go!

<P>For some reason this brings back the thought of the connection of Stilletto and Master T'Lys. IIRC the note on Stilletto was from him. I can't remember what exactly the note said though it does ultimately lead to killing the captain. Master T'Lys if you haven't run into him yet you will likely later on. As far as lore on the captain I have no idea. I can't remember off the top of my head how it plays out. Stilletto was just a hired hand in the scheme of things. </P> <P>That rat was hired to find a lost ship at sea. I'm assuming that the captain was at one time the <STRIKE>sailor</STRIKE> Captain of that ship though I'm not sure any details on the ship itself. Or maybe not. The chests are close to the wreckage, but not right at it.</P> <P><SPAN class=time_text>'The Ratonga's employer (Master T'Lys) seemed to be eager to learn the whereabouts of one of the objects that was to be carried on the ship.' hmmm...where would one find this Master T'Lys?  i can't say that the name sounds familiar, but again with my memory that doesn't surprise me.  I never used to pay much attention to the lore of quests and those mentioned in them untill lately(after reaching max lvl and AA the only things now for me are raids and lore, which i'm finding very very interesting!)  I don't think i'll ever give up my curiousity about the sea key and the captain untill i've got an answer about it.

But I don't think he holds any answers to the captain. To be honest the most interesting part of that  to me is he's related to 2 Heritage quests, only by mention in the note though then the quest he gives. It's been a while, I'm real rusty on the details of him.<BR>

<DIV>Isn't there a major battle that happened in the Thundering Stepps that is the reason so many undead preside there now?  i'm wondering if the captain and his ship might have any relation to that lore wise.</DIV>

<DIV>As far as I know... Just  has some decent oily ink. Now I found out I haven't been through the whole deal with the orders is why I'm not sure how that plays out. The Captain however was carrying a torn silk bag that at one point contained something......</DIV>

<DIV>well i know that the captain is linked to the manastone HQ...forget exactly what his role in it was, but he carried something needed for the shroud of the manastone.  The manastone was kept by varsoon in a chest..but the key to the chest was gained from varsoon after killing him...no use for the sea key there.  At first i thought that with the captain being linked to the manastone hq, that his key would be the key that opens the chest in varsoons lair, but then i remembered when i first did this hq way way back when....i had no sea key...another dead end there.  </DIV><p>Message Edited by Kleever on <span class=date_text>07-18-2006</span> <span class=time_text>08:15 PM</span>

<P>There is a bit about the captain that has circulated around the secret pirate taverns of Norrath. Here is something about him.</P> <P>Far to the southern coastline of the Thundering Steppes there lies a hidden cove. This cove rests at the end of what was once a river of the Plains of Karana, the regions former name in Old Antonica. The once mighty river was called the Plaincutter. The Age of Cataclysms put an end to the Plaincutter as easily as it put an end to Old Antonica. All that remains of that mighty flow is a wide trough whose southern terminus opens into the hidden cove. The centaurs of the Thundering Steppes have erected a wall to seal this cove off from the Plaincutter basin that has been renamed Deadriver Basin. The centaurs stumbled upon the cove in the early days of the Age of Destiny. There they found a beachhead that sloped into the water. Mountainous and impassable arms of rock nearly enclosed the cove. Where these arms did not meet the gap was filled with the hulk of a large pirate ship that met its demise attempting to enter the cove. As the ship was gutted by daggers of stone its belly was emptied of its riches...plundered pirate booty!</P> <P>The centaurs were quick to attempt the salvage of the pirate treasure and they were also quick to find the fate of the pirate ship's crew. The centaurs were met by a mighty octopus lurking in the cove. This was no ordinary octopus it had great arcane power! The tentacled beast was reported to cast spells. Some centaurs fell instantly. Those that did not fall from the first volley of spells attempted to flee the cove only to be met by a horde of undead pirates, the crew had risen by the great beast. Through this wall of undead mariners only a few centaurs managed to escape the cove.</P> <P>The centaurs fled back to their own land. They told the tale and rallied a second force to return to retrieve the treasures of the cove. As the days of preparation went on the centaurs that escaped soon met a grisly fate as they were attacked in the night by the undead pirates, their corpses dragged back to the depths of the cove. It would seem that any who visit the cove never escape the curse of the cove. The centaurs, a superstitious lot, went back to the cove's pass and erected a wall to seal the evil within. The secret of the cove was kept amongst the tribe never to be told to others. As for those adventurers who somehow stumble upon a way to enter the cove...they will learn. No one escapes the cove.</P>

<DIV>hmm...there goes my theory that the octogorgon is what sank the ship...good information though, thanks for the reply.  Still have a theory though that the octogorgon is what removed the captains hand(the partially digested hand that raises him from the fire)....also...i have a sneaking suspicion that the "sea key"(which looks like a tentacle) might have been removed from the octogorgon by the captain...then again i could just be spinning wonderfull stories in my head..lol....either way...i'm gonna be up all nite searching around the centaur camps, the cove of decay, and anywhere else i can find some sort of link to the captain and his key.....and would i be far off assuming that the treaty for treasure is supposed to take place after the ship sunk..but before the octogorgon came out and killed those trying to loot it?</DIV>

the lore is that one day, long long ago one dev got extremely lazy and copied and paste, then a certain community manager came on and said that since they reuse old zones they can work on new zones, like the new nektropos castle that they are coming out with in the next LU or so.....Oh wait...........yea.<div></div>

i've noticed that in the treaty for treasure instance, there is one chest inside the ship that isn't there in any other instances..though its not openable with the sea key..

From the <a href="http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read.php?link=varsooncollection1" target=_blank>Varsoon Collection, volume 1</a>, it describes how Varsoon travel through planes and retrieved 3 relics. Does the third one sound like manastone? <a href="http://lorenorrath.free.fr/read.php?link=varsooncollection3" target=_blank>Book 3</a> has more description which make me think that is the manastone. And the first relics he got maybe the Glowing Black Stone.<div></div>
