I have been playing this game for awhile, 2 months after it came out, and I have yet to get into the lore. I think this would be a good next step in the game for me to find out about the lore and maybe start a roleplaying alt. My problem is I dont know where to start, and never played eq1. Theres looks to be 2 threads up top I can read, and will soon, but is there anywhere else I can look, and perhaps quests I can do to start to get into the story line.

I was the same when i started, the two history of norrath style threads up top are a good start then i there is any areas specifically you need to know more of search for them. Sometimes you wont find what you are looking for so ask and most here will say what they know.

same with me, browsing this forum a few pages back might help too

Lore is a tricky thing in EQ2 and imo its not something you can just "Dive Into". Best way to start is to look at some of the advanced posts seeing about the different aspects of lore that those posts ask about or put forth. Then start asking questions about it the usual who, what, where, when, why, and how stuff you may ask of anything. I'm not a lore guru but thx to that little bit i'm a little more knowledged then the average player of the game itself.

*does not worthy sign* Vhalen though is the lore god of the forums. Him and Jindrack can sometimes come in at the most opportunistic time giving great pearls of wisedom imho.

I'm just getting over that initial phase myself. I started by going over all EQ1 lore again. This will provide a good sense of the History and will present a good timline for you to follow. I will admit that it does get a bit jello-ie around the PoP expansion. However, I think PoP Lore answered many questions. It also opened up many other avenues to explore. This should be a good lead into to EQ2.

Another thing to remember is that quite a few mobs (a Ghost mob is a seldom giveaway) in the game exsisted in EQ1 and have a history you can explore through the dialogue they present during a quest that might involve them.

The Tome of Destiny (a collection of short stories published in the months leading up to release) is a good place to start.

My point being is that you can't easily swim in jello. you won't make much progress trying to traverse it. Same applies to EQ2's lore. You can't just take it all in. Gotta absorb it little by little.

Before I became a lore person I would just pruse around seeing what people had to say then I started asking questiongs and preposing theories along the lines of the lore in that thread.

EQII is deffinately rich in heritage and lore but if your not careful imho it'll swallow you up very quickly. :smileywink:
