<DIV>I was searching on yahoo's video search for "Everquest 2 Videos", and a interesting video came up for the preview of the game. This, from the narrator's voice, was before the release of the game. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Getting to my point...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>In the video the team of explorer's went into the obelisk of lost souls. It showed them entering the door into the building known as "The antheame of shadows"(SP!!) which is a AA/EXP discovery location. When the team entered they we're greeted by a huge shadowed man compareable to the size of the keeper. He spoke to them and said, IIRC, "You have traveled long and far, even outside of your own home of Norrath". Then he faded away and summoned a duo of Nightbloods. (Kinda reminds me of the ring event, Sevents of nih, duo of named nightbloods, then the keeper.) This sorta hints at the fact that the obelisk is NOT in norrath but part of a diffrent dimension or plane, or in the space outside of the planet. And the portals are like stargates/wormholes or just teleporters.....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>This is interesting to me, it may offer some tid bits into the topic of the OOLS+Nektropos Castle.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>----</DIV> <DIV>Vhlen, see if you could nudge the developers into putting such an event like what was on the video. Would be great to find a portal that linked from the castle to the obelisk...=D A great line of quests that give artifacts like the quest in Nektropos castle you added recently would be awesome. </DIV> <DIV>----</DIV>

A better quality one can be found on the official site:<a href="http://everquest2.station.sony.com/en/main.vm#mediaMovies" target=_blank>http://everquest2.station.sony.com/en/main.vm#mediaMovies</a>It's the one on the bottom right, "An EverQuest II In-Depth Movie"<div></div>

have you read all the scrolls and stuff way down in the bottom of the obelisk? they read like an alien invasion and that certain people in both cities, Qeynos and Freeport are either plants put there by them as sleepers or that they have some interest in these people because they hold certain knowledge that the aliens can want.  I forget the exact text from the scroll cases but it was pretty cool reading all that <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

Yup, read the posts on this forum to get a view of some of the other creepy stuff. Obelisk is not only the coolest place to go for lore but great for exp and lootz ><img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />.

<DIV>Its a huge shame that Obelisk of Lost Souls really sucks in terms of actually aquiring lore. The book quests that dropped from chests there were taken out when they revamped the book system, and they still haven't put in loose scattered pages into Dungeon zones yet, so it'll be a while to come before we can get them again.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Otherwise, the rest of the zone offers practically nothing.</DIV>

Books need to be body drops, just like pages.<div></div>

Cusashorn
07-12-2006, 09:05 PM
<DIV>They need to be both so players can resort to one or the other if they can't find the other.</DIV>

Miranni

Both body drops and chest drops? isn't that redundant? or do you mean body drops and ground spawns? This I'd agree with yes, though I understand the concept of not being able to buy an entire collection off the broker.... (oh wait...)<div></div>

Cusashorn
07-14-2006, 12:00 AM
<DIV>Yeah. What i mean is they should still let book drops come from chests as well as finding them from scattered pages all around the game.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>That way, if players dont want to kill 10 mobs to get a page, and repeat 9 times, they can collect the pages. If people don't want to collect the pages or cant find them, they can kill mobs to do the quest instead.</DIV>

<P>Pulling this back on topic a moment, I've just watched the video again, now I know that things were removed from the game to allow for the low end user access to the game, but isn't it about time that some of the stuff in here were added back in?</P> <P>Quite a bit of the fluff has gone from Q and FP, looking at both citys, in the other videos you get a real sense of a military state city from FP and a home of the family for Q, it would be nice to see some of these NPC's readded to the none load bearing zones (e.g. South Q and North FP) I notice that some of the map sizes have changed as well so it may not all be possible but it would be great to see nevertheless. </P> <P>Also some of the spell effects seemed a lot more interactive with both the Mobs and the players (the spell around the Dryad in the Catacombs was great!) the way that the Nightbloods dropped the player to her knees and then knocker her back was also very cool, the tank who was stomped on and killed in the first hit and who stayied down rather than getting back up and then dying was also a good touch, just a lot of different things that I think (personally) could be added back into the game without too much stress to the systems that are now being run rather than what was being run back then. </P> <P>Sorry to all the people who do still have low end spec PC's but some of this content that we can see looks very good and I think that the interactiveness of the fights have lost some of that sparkle that you see in the video and was there to some extent in Beta (being in beta myself)</P> <P>An aside yes I understand that it was all scripted fights, but some of the elements in it I feel could be added back in without to much worry.</P> <P>Sorry I know that this is a bit off the lore side of it and i'll stop lamenting the loss of what could be, though I'll keep hoping for what could be. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>As to the quest sides of it, a few more scripted fights might be nice, we used to see quite a few of them in the early stages now that have all gone the way of the dodo, also if they do say anything then it is just a word bubble that you don't have time to take in as the fight is already on. </P> <P>Where this the flexing before the battle and the "How dare you tread upon my hallowed grounds, time for your journey to end here!" bit more flexing... then the attack. Honestly the arena made good use of this and managed to build tension quite well. Killing Mobs is great but some times we want to know how powerful they are before we take them down and feel really good about ourselves on a job well done. <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>I ask some of the Dev's to watch the video again and see what they can add back in without causeing to much strife. the animations are there........ go on.. I dare you <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>

<DIV>I agree with Jaale to an extent. I was so happy to finally see some scripted events in the EQ2 preview videos... then very disappointed when I saw that there were practically none in the game when it released. Even the high end raids amounted only to "Enter zone, attack mob, kill mob, move on to next mob, etc......"</DIV> <DIV>I don't think it would be too hard technically or creatively to add a few scripts and pre-fight animations/live-cinematics into certain events. The best (and really, only) example within the game I can think of is the Pedestal of Sky encounter, when you tell the NPC that you seek an audience with Barakah and Siyamak, and they leave their respective platforms and fly around the room a few times before dropping and attacking you. This made the event more fun and enjoyable... and the first time you see it in action provides a lasting impression. I'd really like to see more events take advantage of ideals like that!</DIV> <DIV>Anyways... back to lore :smileyhappy:</DIV>

<P>The end of the Ring of Fate quest line is cool. It ends with a BANG! <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>I would love to see more scripted stuff though too. I think it would add loads to the lore of the game. Like with Cheldrak if one of the monks came in after the turtle was defeated, or something. </P>

There are a bunch of scripted events  in the old world... Especially  fro HQ.Of the top of my head...Emperor in Deathfist Citadel (including the audience being released from stands after you win)Lord Everling (and his zappy zappy machine) with his speech/ranting before he attacks.Varsoon's ring event. (He is very chatty, and emotes like a shakespearian actor on crack).Runnyeye, where the Goblins and EE's fight each other after ambushing you.The Maj'dul Blades instance is nutty scripted (where Dukaris and Dukarem swordwfight the whole time you talke down the instance). There are probably more, but these are the ones I have hit in the last 2 weeks puttering around.<div></div>

Wasn't there some cool scripted events back in EQ1 with going to war and stuff in Grimling Forest?

The entire Nektropos area is great when it comes to these scripted events (alexa, the creaking doors right before everling, the dolls, the secret doors, everything). If you want new world stuff theres not much that compare with nektropos but the Vyemm entrance comes to mind and the Three Princes have a pretty long script aswell (although mostly chatter).<div></div>

<P>There were a number of scripted events in EQ1. The Grimling forest had more of a dynamic spawn setup where either the Vah Shir or the Grimlings could be in control of certain camps. There were plenty of others, the two I liked the most were the Hollowshade War, and the 10th Coldain Ring War events.</P> <P> </P> <P>The Hollowshade War was from Luclin, in a mid-level zone just outside the Vah Shir starting city. Grimlings, Sonic Wolves, and Owlbears all were the majority of mobs in the zone, and each of them had a main camp. (A villiage for the grimlings, caves for the other two.) Every so often, there would be a zone wide emote announcing which headquarters was being attacked, and one side would sent a raiding party to attack one of the other headquarters.  Left on their own, the attackers would always lose the fight, but players could help out, and when the attackers won, the race defending the camp would despawn, to be replaced by the attacking race. </P> <P>The reward for this Was that each camp had unique named, with unique loot, for each race. If one race came to dominate the entire zone (ie, controlled all three camps) the next attack would be against the Vah Shir outpost in the zone. When this happened, the Vah Shir in the outpost would emote and say some stuff along the lines of "X race is coming, we must retreat!" and then all the Vah Shir would run out of the palisade and book it for the tunnel leading to Shar Val (which you could see in the distance) The attacking race would take over the outpost, spawning the boss named for that race, and once it was killed the zone would reset.</P> <P> </P> <P>The 10th Ring War was probably the best scripted event in the game, at least up until I stopped playing. In it, the Coldain Dwarf city of Thurgadin was attacked by an army of giants. Massive platoons of giants would march in formation towards the city gate, and you and your raid force had to stop them from killing the Dwarven generals stationed there. (You got a sweet item for each dwarf still alive at the end, I think there were six possible items and you could get all of them.) If all the dwarves were killed, you lost the event and all the NPC's in the city zone would despawn, to be replaced by NPC corpses for one hour.</P>

(like in the video.) and not to always happen at the same place and at the same time. Trust me this would put a little of the fear back into going through places like the vaults where people can do it by the numbers.</P> <P>Thier should be a phyiscal element to it.. but thier should also be a vocal as well. Some of these should be because of quests done, some should just be that something nasty as found you in it's hole and so it send in some minions to deal with you. (again like in the video)</P> <P> </P> <P>I hope this explains my stand point on this. (some time a scripted even just cos you are in a group and in an area is as nice as the scripted event for someone at the right stage of the quest, it gives everyone something to do.)</P>

<DIV>Bah... burned :smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV>OK OK so there are tons of scripted events I forgot about, hehe.... I guess I'm thinking more along the lines of raid zones. Getting to high end raiding is a pretty big accomplishment in and of itself, and some of the raid zones are just disappointingly bland when it comes to scripted events. I do agree that the event between the eye and the Quellithulian in the Laboratory of Lord Vyemm is very interesting, but I'm thinking more along the lines of animations/live-cinematics, such as the Pedestal of Sky event. There should be lots more of these in raid zones.</DIV> <DIV>But, I should give credit where credit is due, and there are some pretty good raid zone animations/live-cinematics:</DIV> <DIV>- Pedestal of Sky, watching Barakah and Siyamak circle down from their platforms.</DIV> <DIV>- Deathtoll, being peppered by arrows as you fight your way through the bottom of the first area :smileyvery-happy:</DIV> <DIV>- Deathtoll, watching the Amorphous Drake form, and the other drake that flies up from the cliff when your party gets near the Fitzpitzle area.</DIV> <DIV>- Halls of Seeing, when Venekor flies down and lands in the center of the room (although this only happens if the event resets :smileysad: )</DIV> <DIV>etc!</DIV>
