Seems liek the Swift Tails have come to Mara as well as the Silent Fist and Ashen Order.A Swiftail Caste member is trying to ally with the Monks. While he is from the Court of Pain directly, no mention of Cabilis itself is mentioned. This guy is not from FP bruisers.groovy.

Well it was always a debate of whether the swifttails fell more as bruisers or monks, but the fact that they're increadibly disciplined in thier training, even if they are increadibly aggressive, alligned them more to monks than bruisers.

We had our plans but we keep them close to our scales for we know that there is no one that we can trust. Our scouts brought word over and again of the Rallosian Army and its victories. We readied for battle. They came from the Frontier Mountains, where the sarnak lived. We sharpened our claws and our teeth. The new army of Rallos Zek was large, but we are iksar, and the strength of the ages flows through us.

Though the battles raged on, we defended no one else, nor fought for any other. When we were under siege, no one came to our aid; we would go to no one else's. Some say this is selfish of us. Is it selfish to treat others as they have treated you?

Soon enough, the skies opened and what many had thought was a tale of old scales happened again: the Green Mist. The Rallosians were defeated as were the shissar so long ago. The others knew then that the iksar had told the truth about the death from above.

Kunark was broken apart by many tremors from deep within the world. The Lake of Ill Omen became a violent churning pool that eventually undermined and swallowed Cabilis. All in the city were lost and those of us elsewhere were left leaderless. Now you know also that the shape of the world changed, the violence of its agony tearing the lands apart. By a coincidence that need not be related here, a ship carrying many iksar was close enough to what had once been Antonica for some of our kind to reach shore.

We should only trust again through the power of our might, through our strength and our skill. Though we had trusted in the maker, in Cazic-Thule, he abandoned us. We trusted him, but we will trust no other. We stand tall and believe only in ourselves.

Though it is good to hear that it is still out there.

It seems odd that a Swift-tail of the Court would desire to learn from a human clan. The denizens of the Court of Pain were loyal soldiers of the Empire 'til the end, from what I understand, and very proud, very proud Iksar at that. Traditionalists are rampant throughout the Scale Yard, speaking of glory and their empire as though nothing had occurred at all. It would seem strange that those who have influence directly from the Courts of Cabilis would have different viewpoints. This leaves a good many questions about the fate of New Sebilis. About the Court of Pain. ... or we could simply be dealing with a few who have broken away from tradition. One might never know until Kunark is revealed to us again.

Perhaps they study a similar art, but that doesn't mean it's safe to generalize racial tendencies just because... they are monks . Yes, they always have been a very agressive order, and they were a key part of the Iksar Empire at the time of it's rising. If I remember correctly... some of the Iksar Centric quests within the city had you kill members of the whistling fist clan I think i'll be paying a visit to the Village of Shin soon to learn more, though.

OOC: Just because the Iksar were able to play as Monks (due to the wonderful thing known as game mechanics, which has never and will never be a true back-bone to lore, in reference to posts by devs who have stated never to judge NPC evaluations of power by their con-levels) within the game EverQuest I doesn't mean that the Swift-tail Caste held any ties whatsoever in beliefs or practices to the Whistling Fists or Ashen Order. They hated soft-skins just as much as anyone else. It is really easy to loop them all into one pretty package due to a little button that someone presses at the creation of their character. But that doesn't define racial motivations in any way, shape, or form. For example: Iksar can now play wizards. That doesn't mean that a long time ago within Cabilis that there was some secret cult of Iksar that practiced wizardry amidst the Harbingers of the Tower. Wizardry was outlawed within Cabilis, and there was a famous Iksar named Dag the Arcanist that was saught for execution for practicing it (see below).

During the reign of Emperor Ganak Sathir, a lowly scholar by the name of Dag studied under the resigned Emperor Atrebe Sathir, master of sorcery. After the untimely passing of Atrebe, Dag began his study of the forbidden circles, wizardry, enchantry and magery. Before long, he took a liking to the ways of the wizard. He kept his studies to himself, ignoring the laws of Kotiz. He became the Blasphemer of the Brood. Most of his studies were held in private, with only a Sarnak slave called Kly to assist in his experiments. But, Dag's secret was soon to be revealed to all. Dag was commissioned to create a magical dagger to be personally used by Sebilisian warlord Kurn Machta. Its craftsmanship would allow for only a warrior as skilled as Kurn to master its use. Dag travelled to Kurn’s outpost to begin his work. With him went the slave Kly, dragging behind it a magical forge belonging to the Haggle Baron Dalnir. While Dag was away, the Brood stumbled upon his journal and its records of his secret obsession. The Brood sent word to Kurn to have Dag destroyed. Kurn allowed Dag to complete the forging of the blade and the placing of its enchantments, but when Kurn believed the dagger complete, he shackled Dag and tested his new weapon upon the very belly of the Blasphemer. Kurn found the dagger to be surprisingly effective, but had killed Dag before the final few enchantments were placed upon it. It was to be returned to the Brood. The dagger never arrived back in Sebilis. The Crusader party transporting it, as well as Kly, the slave pulling Dalnir's Forge, vanished without a trace. It is assumed that the blade and its carriers were cursed by Thule for carrying a weapon created by heretical magics. To avoid further wrath, all of Dag’s property and creations were burned

Another question asked here: would Iksar be happier within Qeynos? Some might, as many have defected to join the queen. Though I would assume those that hold tradition at value will never be happy under a soft-skin's rule. They want their independance again, And their independance is not within Qeynos, regardless of the fact that they might have a dojo there that they could study in. I am hoping to see more starting cities spring up, such as Cabilis, Neriak, you name it. A little more racial flare would shatter some of the easily misconstrued black and white that can be found within the current cities of Freeport and Qeynos.

The origin of the art of fist and tail is a mystery to all but Grandmaster Tynn. Only he knows where the art sprang from. He was the one that introduced the art of the monk to the iksar and where he learned it has remained a mystery for the ages.

I must admit though, there are others that that know of the origins of the art of fist and tail, but they are long departed. These others have left records that could reveal the origin, but would any iksar monk want to accept such truth should the truth not be welcome?

On a side note; the presence of an iksar Swifttail from the motherland, if Kunark was the point of departure, would be valuable news within the Scale Yard. Whispers would no doubt follow as would secret plots.

The origin of the iksar in the Scale Yard can be tied to a division of the iksar army called the Iron Guard. The Iron Guard has ties to a legendary iksar of the Sebilisian Navy named Captain Vlsk Irontail, a monk.

Who, ironically, was awarded the weapon Storm Sabre for his contributions to the success of the Empire. What a monk is going to do with a sabre, I'm not sure, but there you have it. He was quite the survivor, too, here's his story from EQ:

From the book, Captain of the Sea:

Captain Vlzk Irontail, Master of the Sea

370 A.G.: Vlzk, student of the 5th rung, becomes the youngest Iksar monk to attain the title of Tynn Master. He takes his place among the masters of the Court of Pain.

371 A.G.: Master Vlzk becomes the only Iksar monk to be promoted to the rank of Captain within the Iksar Navy. He is promoted by the great Emperor Rile. This act solidifies the alliance between the monks and the Legion and ushers in a new age of disciplines.

372 A.G.: During a coastal patrol being conducted by Captain Vlsk, a fierce and sudden water spout hits and splinters his ship. The Navy searches for survivors and none are found.

406 A.G.: During a Deep Range Patrol, a group of Legionnaires is greeted by Captain Vlsk. He has survived in the Outlands with no aid. His once proud tail has bee ripped from his body of a Trakanasaurus. He becomes a hero. The blacksmiths are ordered to create a tail make of iron. He is now Captain Irontail.

Captain Irontail is promoted to Captain of the Iron Guard, a roving coastal armada. He is also rewarded with great items of magic. In his honor, the Baron and the Arch Duke create an awesome weapon called the Storm Sabre. They also create a lesser blade for all who serve in the Ironguard--The Tynn Foil.

406 A.G.: During the Infamous Battle of Timorous Deep, Captain Vlsk Irontail is defeated as well as most of the Sebilisian Navy. A horde of dragons descended upon them. The navy was vastly outnumbered. So was the end of the great Captain Irontail. Long live his spirit.

The Iksar started out as prisoners. Scale Yard was actually the iksars' holding cell, so to speak. From EQ2 Atlas:

"The original hinhabitants of Scale Yard were the remnants of an Iksar fleet captured by the forces of the Overlord in the Ocean of Tears. Lucan sought to break the proud iksar through torture and forced re-education, a process that lasted for years. But when the new Rallosian Empire threatened the city during the Age of War, D'Lere sought to exploit every asset he could muster. Thus, the Overlord worked out an arrangement with the iksar - the exact details of which were never revealed - and the iksar aided in the defense of Freeport during the Battle of Defiance. After that, they were allowed to live in the district as free citizens.

One of the many things that have bothered players since launch is the fact that the iksar are willing to live in this city. Most who know the race realize that the iksar would have much more likely formed their own settlement, as soon as were able, and distanced themselves from the softskins. Perhaps it all goes back to this arrangement between the iksar and Lucan, it would be very interesting to find that out!

Edit: stupid spelling errors.

Message Edited by Nocturnal Abyss on 07-05-2006 12:31 PM
