I'm new to EQ2! After trying several classes I've decided the monk is by far my favorite. I've never played on a RP server in any game, but after reading some RP server forums it's caught my interest. This brings me to my question: Is there any lore about Monks? I looked it up but couldn't really find anything useful.<p>Message Edited by grantnkim on <span class=date_text>06-03-2006</span> <span class=time_text>11:08 PM</span>

<P>This <A href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=lore&message.id=12360" target=_blank>thread</A> that has lore spoilers from the unreleased Fallen Dynasty adventure pack (coming out in two weeks) has a LOT of lore about the monk class's origins.  Have to scroll down a bit, essentially most screenshots of books and NPC dialogue is what you want to read.  There is also an erudite in Starcrest Commune who talks a little bit about the Ashen Order, and how imbuing martial combat with magic came about, not sure if you have to know Erudite or not, but the the language primer is in the same zone, she can tell you some interesting tid bits on one of the old monk clans.  I've been ard pressed to find lore about what's left of this monk clan, which now resides in the Pillars of Flame, and has split into two factions, the Ashen Order, and the Ashen Disciples.  Read the lore from the linked thread, though, that should give you most of the info you're looking for.</P> <P> </P> <P> </P>

<DIV>Monks actually have a very rich history... arguably one of the most in depth histories of any class in EQLive or EQ2. For that reason, I'll keep this post short and to the basics :smileywink:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>It is said that Monks originated from Bards... or, rather, A bard. A bard named Zan Fi. Zan Fi was adept at many types of combat and weaponry... and had a thirst to learn more and more about fighting. Eventually, he decided to create his own style. After researching, he chose to revolve his style around hand-to-hand combat, opting to not use weapons. He also trained his body to become a powerhouse of force and resilience. His style would mix the points of physical strength, graceful style, and inner peace and wisdom. Lastly, he used his bardic background to "enchant" his fists with extra power... it is said that his fists "sang" with arcane power during combat. Thus, the Whistling Fist style was born.</DIV> <DIV>Over time, others saw the power of Zan Fi's style and wished to learn it. Zan Fi took in students and taught them the Whistling Fist style, and eventually a clan formed... coincidentally called the Whistling Fists. Zan Fi made sure to teach all of his students the virtues of inner peace and wisdom... the Whistling Fists never sought personal gain, they only stepped in to defend righteousness, and then they'd walk away.</DIV> <DIV>Other styles/clans of monks eventually began to form, such as the Ashen Order, the Swifttails, etc. These groups varied in their tactics and motives, but all shared the basic fighting principle of homing one's body into a physical weapon.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There is LOTS of history surrounding each different caste of monks... so much that I couldn't possibly post it all; and without posting it all, it's not worth posting any :smileywink: The upcoming adventure pack, Fallen Dynasty, re-introduces the Whistling Fist clan into the world of EQ2... so you'll definitely want to check it out!</DIV>

<DIV>Aye. By far, the Monks have the largest, deepest, richest history in the entire game. You'll be hard-pressed to find just who, what, where, when, or why a great deal of the other classes in EQ2 even exist.</DIV>
