Yep, like he said, it's the Fear Gate. Used to be in a somewhat different location in EQ, but you had to pass through a wall near a big tree, there were spectres in there, and a mean necro. It was a one way trip to the Plane of Fear. That gate is the reason you see the amygdalyns running around (squid head, things). They used to only be found on the Plane of Fear.

In some ways, looks much more imposing 500 years ago.

Yeah, that's what I thought...but I remember the portal being much bigger...

That pic brings back so many memories :smileyhappy: First raid experiences.... ahhh..... they are kinda like first dates. You gotta be wary, slowly feel things out. If you rush in, yer just gonna end up getting slapped around like a Chihuahua in a Rottweiler fight... those boss mobs don't like to be rushed.... they like you to buy 'em dinner and maybe a movie first.

Yeah...if you look at the old pic, I think you can see someone standing in front of it, not sure what it is, looks almost like a little skeleton or something But it was deffinately a lot bigger.

It's also significantly different in shape and appearance as well, but who cares about the mouth size?

Map of old Feerrott

Map of New Feerrott

As you can see, much has changed, one of the biggest differences I noticed was that the Temple of Cazic-Thule, which used to be in pretty much the middle of the southern border, some how got shoved up to the North East. Also, if you look at the old map of the Feerrott, the Gate to the Plane of Fear was pretty much caty-corner to where the druid rings(#7 on the map linked) were, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. In old EQ, the Fear Gate was roughly where Cythan, the guy (ghost, whatever) for the FBSS is now. Innothule Swamp was, well, now inaccessible (if it were there) by the old entrance, which would be south of where the Temple of Cazic-Thule is now. Actually, a good indicator of where the old Cazic-Thule might have supposed to have been is the large Temple with the Eye of Thule on it, since there were several such pyramids outside old Cazic-Thule. Even still, it seems like the Temple entrance was a good deal East of there. The old Druid Rings were roughly where the Allize Tae Outpost is now, perhaps slightly north of there.

In any case, thing have gotten majorly flipped around (Fear Gate was on Southern Border of zone, now on Norther Border of zone), and even in old EQ, the Fear Gate wasn't straight anywhere, really, of the Druid Ring

I realize a whole lot of movin and shaken was goin on, but these changes are pretty....drastic. I have noticed this kind of discrepancy throughout the game.

Edited for grammer and spelling errors, not that I got many of them

Message Edited by Nocturnal Abyss on 06-02-2006 11:36 AM

Ah, sure enough the cardinal directions are flipped between the two! Maybe the devs were as directionally challenged as I was and put the portal to the north like I thought it was in EQ1 lolIt may have just been luck, but I stood in the center of the druid rings, put my back to the South wall, turned about 40 degrees and headed out. BANG trembling lagoon entrance about the distance away as I remember.Sometimes its better to be lucky than right. 8-)

Message Edited by Trepan on 06-02-2006 11:52 AM

Don't forget that places and locations are where they are now because the Rending changed the face of Norrath so much. Techtonic activity and stuff could easily shift places around.

Example: The Torrent River in Nektulos now runs from Northwest to South, as opposed to West to East in EQlive.

I realise that the Rending really did a number on things, but, assuming Plate Tectonics were involved, why have any of it connected at all? You could have have the Temple of Cazic-Thule be some little adv pack like this Fallen Dynasty one, and have it be its own little island out somewhere, odd that all the fault lines seemed to be exactly where the zone lines, too Also for the most part, the entire continant has flipped upsidedown....except the river. Where does that river come from, anyways?

Edit: Man, gotta learn to type faster, or think slower, or somethin.

Message Edited by Nocturnal Abyss on 06-02-2006 12:07 PM
